There's a Masonic Lodge locator at this link:
http://www.grandlodgeoftexas.org/l_locate.php
Here's a picture from the Holland Lodge in the Montrose Area:
By the way the building is for sale $15,000,000.00
holy crap! how can it be for sale!?!

I don't know when this was built, but it replaced an earlier Masonic Temple on Main that was destroyed in a fire. I have a picture of the old one.
i read somewhere that the houston temple was damaged (not
totaled) by the 1900 storm. would that be the one that was
finally destroyed by fire?
would love to see the photo!

Hello Team:
Can anyone provide some information about the Masonic Temple in the corner of Fanin St and Bell St....???
quite interesting isn't it?
i love the detailing on that one.
i have found little info on that one and also
interested in any info since a few of our great
city's founders were masons, yes?
this was the only based houston site i found:

I found a site that has a lot of great information on Houston music and music venues in the 1960s.
neat! any record i've found that was recorded in houston has
been christian, high school choir or preteen partridge wannabes.
i feel better now.
i do have one recording of "hulda" from iceland performing
folk songs at the shamrock hotel in three different languages!

Looks as if at least the palm trees were saved and purchased by a local golf course.
i am happy to see that...
but what about the other trees?
it was such a large amount , i'm sure they found a dollar
to be made from that too. with their debt, i'm sure they
or the demo company found some way to benefit.

If you guys would like to see what the location where Jalapeno's Restaurant is looks like go to this website: http://maps.a9.com/ Then click on Houston, and finally put in this address in the location box: 2702 Kirby Dr, Houston, TX
You can use this site to look at a lot of streets in many major cites across the USA.
that A9 thing is pretty wild. i just saw my cat in the window of
my apartment (pictured there from the street) --- creepy!

I used to work in that building, and it was almost totally empty (to the point of being creepy). I think that it's an awesome example of mod architecture and that it should be preserved.
what was it like inside? how long has it been empty?

1001 East Southmore Avenue
Pasadena, Texas
damn.
saw the title of this thread and knew exactly which building
you were refering to, although i've only seen it once. i hope
that this is a hoax... how upsetting!

Torvald, I don't believe it is exactly that school. That school was located on Jefferson, between Smith and Louisiana. It no longer exists. However, the Gregory School on Victor Street is named for the same Gen. Gregory as the original Gregory Institute.
There is a planned renovation of Gregory School.

you are right -- i am glad they are trying to renovate

i was riding my bike by the old gregory school in freeman's
town area and there is a new sign saying that it is the new site
of a black heritage library. i think this is awesome because i
really love that building and hooray for anything concerning
a new heritage library. i am assuming they will revamp at
least part of the school, since i really love that building ---
please tell me this is so...
does anyone know if it will undergo renovation?
does anyone have any old photos of this building when it was in use?
-
um its just an amusement park
that post may have been more about the trees...
they were old trees, really beautiful. does anyone
have a photo for those who don't know?

Panoramic photo of what the scene looks like currently. Larger version at the link above.
what happened to all of the trees?
i guess whatever is going there next doesn't need all
of those nice trees? do you think they were enough
to take to a mill or what? there were quite a few...

Ewww!
I vomited on the historic Battleship Texas once, I wouldn't want to do it in the HMNS. Has anyone gotten sick yet while viewing the exhibit?
why did you vomit on the battleship?
i've been there --- did i miss something?

I sent with a out of town guest on friday night, and when we finally made it to the museum through all the construction, etc it turned out the museum was closed for a special members only function. Man was I pissed ! It took over an hour round trip for that drive, and there was NOTHING posted on their website about their special members only function !!
someting similar hapened when i paid full price for 2 tickets and they forgot to mention theywere closing an hour early to have a wedding in the dinosaur room -- which seems neat but they should have mentioned that when it was only an hour away when i paid for them.
i was also irritated tough, whn they did not reduce the regular ticket price when the had a floor or more closed once for remodel a few years back... my date's main interest that day was the gem display which was closed (and should have been a warning at the time...)
whew! i'm bitter today!

At least these corpses are still having fun.
A previous exhibit showed clear plastic models of humans caught at the moment of death. They were made from the impressions left in the ashes by people who were killed by the eruption of Vesuvius in Pompey.
Now that was heartrending.
ech! sounds more like the mueseums back when PT barnum owned one...
pure nightmare fuel, i say.
-
there is no way i could stomach that exhibit.
seems like a quick way to aquire the ol' OCD.
or some sort of hypochondria, anyhow...

elecpharm --- my have missed a post somewhere but what does your name mean?

They didn't sell either because the Sweet & Low was not natural, and "they" test razors on animals.
...had and odd visual with that one. are they shaving
the animals with or without the sweet & low?

I have confirmed through sources in the know: there are no current plans to demolish the building. The activity that has been going on is also not part of any redevelopment project. The building's status may or may not change in the near future, but I can say nothing else, so don't ask.
hooray! happy to hear it... how old is the digiclock on the
roof? i love that damn thing!
-
Our security people told me this week that I can expect to see Central Square demolished in approx two months [Mar 06?] but don't quote me! I'm going to try to find out if anyone knows any facts in that matter.
oh no! i really like this building and was still hoping someone would find a purpose for it.
yet the filthier it got, the more it got tagged and with the lower windows busted out,
i figured as much.
interested if anything will happen with the lage digital clock on the roof (other than being part of the demolition).
