  1. They approved it ages ago, but progress has just been super-slow. I still wish they could put the patio between the deli and whatever that historic building is next to it, but they apparently the parking requirements are forcing them to locate it on the "loud" side of the building. With all that street parking on Leeland, it is a shame!

I live in Broadmoor. Bought last year and enjoying it so far. My street is very quiet. Neighbors walk their dogs in the evening. Constable Trevino lives here, so HPD response time is short. I see home improvements going on frequently around the neighborhood. No flood problem on my street. The EEMD Improvement Plan, already underway, will make it a more desirable place to live. I have no problem getting on or off 45 whichever direction I'm traveling from. A hidden gem IMHO.

  2. Some before pictures, via Jay Lee, from the Swamplot article in the OP. http://www.baldheret...ban-development

Sig's is now going to be across the smaller street from Continental Club, on the side of the newly renovated building. I went and looked at the old Sig's location and it doesn't look like they're fully out yet. Not sure what the plan is.

Natachee's is open. Had lunch there today. Great place. Lacy adds a nice touch.

  3. I already miss the trains. Two sounds I enjoy at night are the train horns and the racing motorcycles on I-10 or Memorial. All that is left are the bikes. All the quiet zone has done is remove one more quirk of living inside the loop. Along with the bulldozing of the old buildings on Washington in favor of new strip centers, I find the quiet zone another step in the remaking of Washington into a bland and boring area. The QZ supporters get no congratulations from me. They'll probably run off the bars next.

Make the move to the East End...no QZ yet.

  4. Is Broadmoor a sketchy neighborhood? Or would you describe your situation as anecdotal or a rare occurrence considering your story details?

Going on 4 months living in Broadmoor and I feel safe. It's a neighborhood in transition, so it is what it is. The park nearby has really cleaned up. It looks much better than it did years ago, thanks in part to the COH, and now with more lighting I think it helps to keep it that way. On occasion I drive around and see homes slowly being renovated. Not sure how often break-ins happen, but at least the response time is excellent. I check the HPD crime tracker and don't see a need for me to get an alarm. I'm getting a dog soon, but only to keep the neighborhood cats away...(I'm not a cat person).

  5. i dont know about the rest of the years but i do know who was under that costume in 72-73, a good old friend of mine, david alexander. austin went to state a couple of times in the 50's but did not win either contest. i also remember the scottish brigade and knew several people that were in that organization. that area and the school has real gone done but so have the rest of that end of town. my school is not doing much better but it is still standing and for 83 she still looks pretty good.

Nice to be back from a well-deserved vacation.

My brother and I were actually talking about Austin and Jackson MS last week. One question came up...Will they turn around in 10-15 yrs? (Lantrip, J.P Henderson, and Eastwood Academy received "Exemplary" status in 2008, if this means anything in terms of the quality of the education.) Are they next? Thoughts? Comments?

  6. I think I read somewhere (Television without Pity, maybe?) that most of the House Hunters episodes are filmed when the buyers are already closing on a property. So the realtor is pretending to show them around, and they are pretending to be interested. I'm not sure if that's true, but if it is, it explains quite a bit.

My favorite recent one was a young guy looking for a condo in Vancouver and the real estate agent was just ALL OVER him, flirting, innuendo, the works. Definitely added a little spice to the otherwise boring condo parade.

That also explains the really bad acting.

  7. I don't know, maybe it's because I have had my windows open the last few days, but it seems the train engineers are blowing their horns like crazy lately. It's 2am right now and there's a dude laying on his horn at this very moment. WHY? Is this really necessary? If it's due to a street crossing, seriously, can't a driver see the big ass train ahead? Comeon! It's very frustrating, but I know. That's what I get for moving to an industrial area. It seems to be non stop, though, recently. SHeesh!

I've noticed too. They know we're pushing for a quiet zone so they lay it down more frequently .l.dry.gif Maybe I'll bring it up at the next ECA meeting.

  8. No they didnt. It was more like a nervous laff. Because she was about to mention she lives in katy. Dont worry... EaDonians/EaDonites will laff the same way soon.

This is how the conversation will go:

Person#1: I live on Live Oak.

    Person#2: Where is that?

    Person #1: "Eado"

Person #2: Oh, you mean the East End.

    Person#1: dry.gif

  9. We should organize to fix that sign up, looking at the location, that isn't well traveled anyway, and it would be cool to push for a new sign at a different location, like maybe broadmoor and telephone.

Send a PM with your name & email address.

the city does have standards to how and where signs can be placed on medians. try contacting your councilperson for more info. all it takes is one person who wants to take the lead.

I don't mind taking the lead. Hope Mr. Rodriguez remembers me.

  10. Good luck getting ECA to pay attention to anything in Broadmoor! I've become somewhat disillusioned with that organization. Its claim to be inclusive of Eastwood as well as the adjacent neighborhoods doesn't ring true. Maybe if I were a resident of Eastwood proper who lives in a handsomely restored bungalow instead of a Broadmoor DIY work-in-progress I would know the reason for our apparent exclusion.

Well, I have a different attitude about it. Maybe I'm being naive. It doesn't hurt to try. As they say "There's strength in numbers". Well, my neighbors were out, cutting their lawns, as was I. Neighborhood kids playing outside, neighbor across the street walking the dog, next door neighbor's son-in-law waxing his 63' Lincoln Continental...nice! My brother came over and took 'after' pics of my house...still a work in progress. IMO, I rather have someone mow their lawn then not have it cut at all.

  11. I got to attend the private parties on Thursday and Saturday and found the food (enchiladas, tamale, tacos) to be like Cafe Adobe's. However, Ruby's did have some really awesome fajitas (highly recommended). The best part of this place are their margaritas. Very tasty, and happy hour (Mon-Friday) 4-7pm, they have .99 draft beer and 1.99 house margaritas. My wife and I will probably be coming here weekly just for the happy hour. BTW, service was awesome, and the inside of the place is nice. We are excited to have this place in Midtown.

    Any lunch specials?

  12. Honestly, I think the shirt is funny. This is "texas football" folks. These rivialires have gone on for years. KPRC showed the shirts from previous years on their evening news cast last night. When I was in highschool in the mid 90s we had our big rivialry game coming up against Conore and at the pep rally they had a Conore Tigers jersey. One of the coaches proceeded to make himself vomit on the jeresey during the pep rally. its just football. I dont think that any of the memorial players are going to trying and replicate this act, because they saw it on a t shirt.

    Uhh...yes they would.
