Anyone go to the East End Line ceremony?
  2. I think he's talking about the one between the vet clinic and the arched...Yea, I'm suprised the school didn't include that piece of land...such an eye-sore.
  3. I noticed the glass plate windows last week....Its too far back to notice a building is there...until you're about 1/2 block away.
  4. Wow!...I though my hood was bad...but still not excuse to be grateful.
  5. Did KIPP do their research of the area?....(AA facility, RR, that smutty bar behind it on Telephone)....do they know something we don't?...I guess we just have to wait and see.
  6. So that's what that place is?..I always wondered why people who looked like "thugs" and "losers" would hang out outside that place...I thought it was an factory of some sort, leaving work and getting their brew on....should've put two and two together...True story: About 2 years ago my sister got in an accident when a drunk driver leaving that sleazy bar totaled my sister's vehicle as she crossed the intersection...had to be transported to the hospital, but miraculously only suffered minor bruises.

I saw the rendering on the brochure...one rendering ...wow!..don't care to much for it...looks bland and more like a aluminum shed than an "old town" feel. Maybe it'll change.

From the Metro Brochure (pg.4) "How will the rail line cross the freight rail line to reach the Magnolia Transit Center? A grade separation (an elevated, overpass structure) must be created for vehicular and rail traffic to safely cross the Union Pacific Railroad crossing at the 6200 block of Harrisburg Blvd. The Gulf Coast Freight Rail District is the lead organization on the project, and METRO is working closely with them to construct this structure as soon as possible. "
  9. More news on the stadium...Glad to see the Dynamo stay; hopefully the deal won't slow negotiations to build a new home. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...ts/5854535.html

  11. It's an odd location for a school....I was hoping for a park at least...that location was vacant for years...probably decades...I can already picture kids throwing rocks at the train as it passes by. On a side note...the hole-in-the-wall bar and the run-down gas station on the corner of Lawndale and Dismuke were demolished a few months ago (glad to see them go)...did it have to do with the school?..(being so close)....what will happen to Stephanie's Ice House?...any thoughts/info?
  12. I'll see if I can get a pic up...only 1 or 2 miles from where I live.
  13. Where did you hear/learn about this?..more info. EDIT: Nevermind...found the post.

I'm a Eastview resident and wondering how it will affect my area...traffic-wise...There's already a shopping strip 25 ft from the RR...I was excited to see that, now if only Central City would be demo'd and have a nice park instead...(in my dreams right?)

$3/sq ft?...sounds underpriced...I don't oppose the rail line...just the service facility...still have mixed feelings regarding the overpass...but adding the service facility would only make the area more industrial. I understand that the East End has been historically industrial, but the EEMD is trying to change that and applaud their efforts.
  16. I'm excited about HP...not too fond of the architecture, looks too "plain", can't reallt tell it's there til you're in DT...but given the space it has I think it will be successful...Denver Pavilions look amazing...Will there be open spaces to walk through the retail shops?...similar to the Marq E.
  17. IMO I rather see it come down too...it blocks the DT view from the south...(being picky here)...Condos would be nice...but as always will be overpriced.
  18. Anyone know what the city plans to do with that hilly area off 225 and Broadway?..It used be just broken up asphalt and where local residents used to learn how to drive...that's where I learned to drive stick! They removed the asphalt...nows it's an empty field of grass...looks tempting to roll down that hill.. .maybe continuing 225?....a park would be nice.
  19. The potholes are ridiculous. I would drive home that way too...I avoid that street all together. About that new dry cleaner place: I took my pair of dress pants last month...Picked them up 2 days later and noticed a rust-color stain on the inside of the waistband....they didn't even have POS machine...I had to pay cash. I was excited to have a dry cleaner so close to home...now I'm disappointed. I may go back in a few months and hope service improves...(if they're still in business).
  20. Anyone know what's going on at this location?...It's a vacant lot. I saw a bulldozer tearing down a small building and breaking ground yesterday. http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&q=...&iwloc=addr

    Hi HAIF

HI, I just wanted to introduce myself to HAIF members. I've been reading the posts here recently and enjoy reading this site. Never knew that a community like this existed. I'm not an architect, but I am interested in what happens in this amazing city ,especially near where I work and live. Already
