  1. A couple of weeks after the car show, I went to the "monster truck show" at Reliant Stadium and even though we were early, we spent 50 minutes parking and about an hour getting out of the parking lot. Another friend spent 2 1/2 hours stuck in traffic. The train is definitely the best way to get to events there, they just need to figure out how best to get people to the train.

My bro and nephew went and made it to my house in 30 min. i'm about 10 mins from dome.

evidently metro announced a new record daily total for lrt during rodeo. i think it was 61k.

  2. Does anyone know if John Pfister is still around? I've called him several times since Thanksgiving, but to no avail. Chalked up his no reply to the holidays and being busy. So I tried again a couple of weeks ago and have not gotten a return call yet either. Would like to have him come check things out and give us an estimate but just can't seem to reach him.

    Thanks!

he's definitely around i saw him and his son eating lunch about 1 month ago. he's always busy.

  3. Times Square has at least 10 jumbotron tvs within it, and there's many other cities worldwide that have them as well, but they're much more spread out throughout the city compared to NYC, where all seem confined to Times Square. I'd LOVE to see some jumbotrons downtown, including at least one at Pavillions, and perhaps two or three around the downtown park, Main Street, and Bayou Place.

    they would look tacky

  4. We do have a leg to stand on. TxDOT is asking the public what they want and are obligated and willing to build grade separations. No more noise and no more traffic delays and the railroads can run 24/7 and no one will hardly notice. It's a win/win.

With airports, the residents nearby are truly up a creek without a paddle.

noisewise the people i know in the area while they do complain about the horns, they say just having the trains go through the neighborhood is just as annoying noisewise i see how the bridges may eliminate the horn noise, the noise from the trains themselves will be almost impossible to eradicate. i think the grade separations would be even more helpful for keeping traffic moving. i know on the eastside, there are some areas that are blocked for quite a while.

  5. I wouldn't mind a few small shops/restaraunts too...just in case I don't want to sit down and eat somewhere and not spend $20.00 on a meal. HP needs a TACO BELL because there isn't one downtown. I could see it now...get off work, buy a shirt on the way home, have a couple of beers with some co-workers after, grab some Taco Bell, and then head out to another place.

Did I mention I want a Taco Bell at HP.

sounds like you're not the Pavilions type person. that would be an embarassment to the project.

  6. I don't want actual thugs who create crime there.

LOL that is funny! so what kind of thugs do you want?

We need one that is maintained, Angelika is in dire need of some renovation.

The place is filthly and the restrooms are busted. :angry2:

We have a filthy one already.

We need to clean the Angelika first, maybe Bayou Place will encourage them to clean up and renovate again.

It is a decent 6 screen stadium seating theatre.

well now that bayou place is finally going to rent some of the space west of bagby (earthlink or whoever was moving there) things are at least improving there too. that space has been empty since its inception.

  7. If the population base from those mere two residential midrises was going to have that much of an impact on the success of this project, then this project was/is doomed anyway. Like with Denver Pavillions, the development is looking to tap into the existing downtown population of workers, visitors and residential. I agree that it would be nice/cool to have the residential component at opening--and maybe it will eventually spawn an expansion some time after the grand opening--but the true success of this project--as it is/was with Denver--will come from the Pavillions' ability to lure workers, tourists and casual visitors downtown.

    concur!!

  8. Be careful not to confuse style of dress w/ actual thugs. As long as they don't bring crime, I could care less. Money is what matters, and if they have it, let them shop.

no confusion. a thug will harass bartenders, create problems for customers, etc. i could care less how people are dressed. money is NOT what matters. if a thug is harassing customers, then the owner (of a place like warren's, etc) would ask them to leave. it's not about money. it is about keeping your good customers.

  9. You are entirely true but HOUSTON is not Denver

Denver is actually considered a tourist destination and a 'hot' place to live. Houston is not either of these. Real World selected Denver because it is an exciting place when did they select Houston - they didn't. I've never been to Denver but I am going to guess that more people live in downtown Denver than in Houston. Plus I am going to guess that the tenants of teh Denver Pavilions are because those tenant wanted to be in downtown Denver whereas downtown Houston would be more of a gamble.

i can't believe you're using Real World as a source for anything!

  10. I see that you said "personally"...what is your reasoning? The Niketown in SF when I visited did not have a "thug" element, and I would venture to guess that the ESPN Zone would attract about as many thugs as Fox Sports Grill in the Galleria does.

Location doesn't matter. The same Houston that you are well aware of that provides for most people to travel by car allows those thugs to go where they want just as easily. And they do.

there are certain sports related places that would more likely attract thugs just as there are those that would more likely to attract families. I can see that fox sports grill might attract a thug element just from the nature of the store. That is exactly my point.

i never said location matters. the espnzone could go anywhere and attract thugs.

  11. I get what you're saying, but these are also places people want to shop at. Sports fans (fanatic and casual) always want to go to ESPNZone when near one, people love their sneakers especially Nike, and people love their music.

Now I'd get down on people asking for chains if they were really weak like an Abercrombie or something. But it's not like these "chains" are in every city.

i personally see the espnzone, nike, etc attracting more of a thug element. that is something that needs to be avoided otherwise the project wouldn't be successful long term. i think the restaurant mix is nice one and could be great as long as access is easy.

  12. I think this question is properly placed here in "East End Future Projects"...I live in the East end, the part close to downtown...around Palmer, Nagle, Dallas, Live Oak...Anyway, within the last two weeks or so, the city has begun resurfacing many of the streets in the neighborhood...mostly around the new townhouse developments. The new streets look nice, but I was wondering if any of you had an idea as to why the city would do that. I'm not complaining, but the streets weren't that bad to begin with...relatively smooth and clean. Is it possible that the city is making this neartown section look more attractive or might something bigger be in the works? I like the idea of new streets...it makes my neighborhood more appealing to buyers. I just wanted your thoughts...Most of you seem quite knowledgable about these things...Thanks.

they retop streets quite a bit just for maintenance purposes. they've let some of those go pretty bad (i'm thinking mckinney specifically) and a retopping is needed. my parents were just redone in the last 6 months.

  13. Hey, don't knock forever XXI, mark my words, the joint will be crawling with good looking women.

AND my wife can spend her time there while i knock'em back with my buddies at whichever happy hour location strikes my fancy that evening.

    Good times are coming..

you have to go out since she won't sleep with you after the bullet from the driveby last weekend. ;)

  14. Yeah, right! The only reason this group is hard to please is b/c everyone believes anonymous posts that don't disclose their source. No one bothered to challenge the athenticity of this list...

Books a million is a good tenant, but really HP is not much better than what you get between Bayou Place and the Houston Center...

i put an email from the president of the development who said the website was incorrect. when people still speculated after that, well i guess they are living in a dream world, not reality.

like i said earlier, i think the restaurants will be a good draw as long as parking is provided. the bus at my corner goes right there which is good.
