We were looking at houses in Telfair (Sugar Land) a couple months ago and saw what must have been these two. Two little people were walking out of the David Weekly model home trailed by a film crew as we were walking in. It was rather surreal - but the weird part was seeing the guy climb into the driver's seat of an otherwise normal looking SUV and drive off, followed by the crew in a second vehicle. I'm sure the car had some kind of special modifications on the inside for him to drive it, but it was certainly bizarre to watch from the outside.
The David Weekly saleslady said it was for a "TV show," so now we know what it was.
Did you make it on camera?

Its about a little couple named Bill and Jen. They move to Houston from the New York where Jen excepts a job a Texas Children's Hospital. I saw the previews while watching a house flipping show on TLC that was flipping a house in Spring, TX.

Looks like a cool show!

Culberson asks fed to pay for U.S. 290 expansion, commuter rail
By AUDREY M. MARKS
Updated: 05.15.09
Citing the exploding growth rate in greater Houston area and an increase in the number of motorists, U.S. Rep. John Culberson, R-Houston, requested $267 million for two local projects from the federal government Thursday to improve mobility in the region.

Humble, Conroe, Tomball, Magnolia, Katy, Sugarland, Richmond, Pearland, Alvin, Pasadena....oh, and KEMAH.
Just to name a few.
But unlike the others, the Woodlands seems to have it all (more complete), unlike the others. The riverwalk, the up and coming skyline, etc. The market square area is not the only part that is called downtown.
In other words, if the Woodlands needed to survive on its own without Houston, it most likely could.

Actually, GM will be relocating to Sweden. Ikea is acquiring the company and will apply their business model:

edit: dammit! They left the allen wrench out of the box!
LOL, I would give up just looking at it.
Are they really considering leaving the states? If they are, why would we care if they survive? I think Houston would be a good move for GM, or Dallas.

BTW, this water taxi thing in a way epitomizes the wrong turn taken by TW. According to today's Chronicle, they are now seeking federal funding to keep that thing going. IMHO , the water taxis are a joke and always wil be. You'll never get throngs of tourists paying big bucks to coast along a suburban mall drainage ditch. Ludicrous.
I think the Woodlands is the best! What other Houston suburb has a downtown like the Woodlands? I agree that it doesn't get enough tourist for the water taxi's. I think they can increase tourist by adding attractions such as museums, and maybe even a Kemah Board Walk type development near the riverwalk or a theme park.

Now that's what I'm talkin bout! Thats a cool curvy building in the background. Defiantly not typical Houston, which is a good thing, looks similar to that building in LA (forgot the name). I can't believe the rails are elevated, and there are more that 2 rail cars on each train! This is how I have always said Houston's light rail development should be! Its not plain and boring, its a place that people would want to check out and experience Houston with out having to have a car. I have one question though, Are the elevated rails in the current plans?
Not to keep anybody's hopes up, but I don't think we've seen this rendering, and it looks pretty stinkin cool to me -
That's interesting you bring it up, because Texas' very frequent use of the death penalty is one of the very things that reinforces our backwoods reputation.
LOL! You know I thought about that be for I typed it, but then I said for trash like those people that did this I would make an exception. I'm pretty sure they (the ones who did this) agreed with the death penalty, because after all they are trash. So pretty much they getting done to them what they believe should be done to others. I can pretty much tell you everything about these people without ever meeting them. After seeing their trailer on their wooded lot and their Confederate flag and signs. I can tell you that they are every conservative, idolize people like Rush Limbaugh and the Bush family, wear camouflage clothing on a regular bases, dip snuff, and eat possums. I could go on forever.
-
Trash people like this give Texas and the rest of the South a bad name. They had a huge Confederate flag in their front yard and signs saying they will shoot to kill if you come on their property. I'm with you JLWM8609, but I would take it a step further and give them the death penalty!

I always wanted to go there too. I don't know where it is. Also there was some new grocery store that opened up a while ago in the Asia town area, that catered to I think Korean foods, well they had a Korean fried chicken place in it and I heard that Korean fried chicken was good. Next time I'm in Houston I want to go there and to Timmy Chang's.

We have Brazos Transit, but who would ride that?

You guys are saying we don't have the density, but in a way we do and with light rail it will densify even more. At least we are thinking ahead unlike Houston did and now they are building their last minute half rate system for a metro population of nearly 6 million.

I just saw a video of a segment that KHOU did about Houston's economy. An economics professor predicts that Houston's economy will get worst than the rest of the nation. It said something like Houston would lose like 60,000 plus jobs this year. I hope that professor is wrong.

Toy train. How lame. Too bad they can't get a real subway.
Ok
Its Bryan/College Station, a "small" metropolitan area. Its not the 4th largest city in America/top ten metro. If we were, I would expect a heavy rail or subway line.

The Campus in 2020: Improve Campus Accessibility
Access to campus by pedestrian, bicycle and automobile is a challenge currently. Poorly distributed parking areas make parking on campus a daily challenge. A bus system loops through the communityImprove Accessibility and back to campus, but is not a preferred mode of travel for students despite the inconvenience of finding a parking space. Student proposals included increasing the number of parking garages and locating them closer to the East and West Campus cores and along the light rail loop.

I wonder if all of those powerlines and tall light poles will be removed when this is finished?

It's hot here, and "no one" walks anywhere (except crazy people who like hotness).
In the form that most of Houston is in now it would be to hot and to hard to walk. But if it was more urban, with tree lined streets for shade and other features that will cool you off, it can be walkable. You all give up to easily on what Houston is capable of being.
A few years ago I was riding around Houston, it was hot as hell, but once we got to Sugarland Town Center/Mall it was much cooler. I wondered why and noticed all of the shade from the trees in the area.
There is also this new kind of pavement that is not only easy on your feet, but it absorbs water and does not get hot like regular pavements. So there are things that can be done to reduce heat in areas and make that area walkable.
Look at the Houston Premium Outlets, its an outdoor mall and people still go.

I just thought of this, why don't they build it in the Uptown/Galleria area. Downtown already has enough stadiums, why not add another attraction to Uptown? I think that it would be great!
-
lockmat, what is that in front of that building? A subway station? (wishful thinking, lol)
-
I thought this was about the HEB that is supposed to go up off of 290 near the Houston Premium outlet.

I have two more:
Illusional & Racetrack

Because the money spent on sports infrastructure is a waste. I don't mind Houston trying to get it for vanity's sake, I just don't want Houston to win it. Given Houston's performance on other large events, I do not doubt that they could pull it off. But, the public money spent on stadiums that will be unused or underused after the cameras are gone is not worth the expense.
The city pretty much has all of the stadiums needed, but getting people around would be a problem. The city would need more hotels though, it need to clean up all of the litter and the unsightly shopping centers, apartments, housing and fix the flooding problem. Might also need a few more attractions, But other than that, the city has the stadiums. May need a soccer stadium though.

Yeah, but now that I see a picture of it, not really. But they both have an abstract type of architecture to them. I like it. Its futuristic looking. You already know a lot of movies and music videos will want to have a scene their, especially since it will defiantly be a place that people look at and know its in Houston. Like people recognize Houston now by the Williams Tower , the Water Wall, and the Astrodome.
