I wonder if this is permanent??? I hope not.
If so this could be a big loss for Houston.

It's a nice building. But I'm curious, is this the first high rise built in a suburban shopping center? Does it look out of place, or is it an improvement for the area?

The Galleria is technically a lot more than a mall. There are several office towers, and hotels, and much of the area around the Galleria doesn't mind telling people how close they are to the Galleria. People will call it the Galleria forever. I'm sure a lot more people know the area as the Galleria just because it was the magnet that drew everything to the area, and that's pretty hard to change. I usually call it Galleria-Uptown. That way I know people know where I'm talking about.
Coming into the city from the Bryan-College Station area (29 to the west loop), it never fails, someone in my family or a friend that I'm riding with will always say "Wow look at downtown (referring to Uptown). It never fails. I would prefer them call it the Galleria instead of Downtown. I always point over to the East (direction of downtown) while its still visible from the freeway and tell them "That is downtown."

Houston needs to add a New Years Eve Celebration like it had in the past. I can remember the bands/performers in years past, the night art car show, the fireworks, the George R Brown light show and all the fun downtown. I also remember Gina Gaston and Tom Cook hosting and broadcasting from downtown for ABC13 with different reports throughout downtown reporting back all the fun. So who else agrees that Houston (the nations 4th largest city) needs to bring back a New Years Eve Celebration downtown. And it should have something uniquely Houston to drop for the countdown. So come on Mayor Sylvester Turner and other Houston leaders. Make this happen! Let ring in the new decade (2020) with a New Years Eve Celebration downtown again.

Here we are 3 years later. Was this ever rebuilt? What does the site look like now? Will there ever build it if they haven't already?

This is great news! Although the same company is building a development in Atlanta called High Street that this twice the size of Regent Square it's still great news.

There is a new show on NBC called Game of Silence that is set in Houston but filmed in Atlanta. Game of Silence

Are there any plans to update or clean up the exterior of the towers connected to the Galleria? They look really dated and bad. maybe something like the down town Mickey Leland Federal building redo.

How far is Midtown Dallas from the Downtown/Uptown area? Does DART rail come to the Midtown area? If not are there future plans? I could see a subway working here.

Do you guys think there will be a Skyhouse 4? Where do you think it ill be located? I say Memorial City or maybe The Woodlands.

I was hoping thst this development would be similar to the Atlantic Station development in Atlanta.

Has or will the name of the airport change to Hobby International Airport?

The River Oaks District area is becoming to Uptown/Galleria what Midtown is to Downtown. Will this Skyhouse have retail on the bottom floor of the building and or garage? I think I asked that before.

That is the wrong type of sidewalk for the type of development pictured.

All of this new development and Target still hasn't made any announcement about moving the hell out of the way. AWKWARD!

Let me get this right. Will this building be torn down for the new Pearl Whole Foods development? If so why waste such nice art on that building?
-
Take note BLVD Place Whole Foods. This is what and urban grocery store is supposed to look like.

My sister just signed a lease at this place. Upon pulling up we both cringed at the skirt as well, but once we got inside for the quick tour and saw the model rooms we were both impressed. The quality and detail is there. And oddly enough, it didn't feel cookie-cutter. Anyway, at 4 grand a month I still think it's absurd. But then again I'm cheap.
Is your sister single....and looking? LOL

Wish the tunnels had a subway system and the streets had life.

As we can see from some photos posted further up, Rice Village started 70 or more years ago. Our metro area (that now has roughly 6,000,000 people) had fewer than 400,000 in 1940 - not a whole lot bigger than Bryan / College Station now.
Cars weren't as fast then, nor was the pace of life. So one could pull off straight in parking on a street.
Never thought about it like that but you are right. Looking back at old movies from that time, you can see the difference in pace of life then and now.

The worst think about rice village is walkability. No sidewalks to speak of, and all the darn cars crowding around everywhere. They need to get rid or reduce parking infron of the shops, and make huge walkable (maybe bricked) sidewaks, like downtown.
I agree! Too many cars in front of the buildings and it makes it hard to see the shops and it also makes it hard to see Rice Village as anything other than another suburban shopping center. The complete streets initiative I believe would make Rice Village much more desirable. People like easy parking, but that does not necessarily mean right in front of the building. If given a choice, I would choose to shop and eat in an area where I am able to people watch, (see people walking their dogs, window shopping, eating at sidewalk cafes...) versus a bland shopping center with the same exact shops and restaurants.

Could An Over Or Underpass For Westheimer At Railroad Crossing?
in Traffic and Transportation
Posted
All these years later, I wonder if opinions have changed on this topic with all of the development that has happened in the area. I was just in the area admiring all of the new developments then I looked over and see a a train stretching across Westheimer. That really ruined the vibe, I don’t care what anyone says, the train needs to go. The 4th largest city in America deserves better then to have a small town train crossing that goes through one of its premier streets in one of its premier areas.
Just my opinion. Don’t hate me for speaking the truth. Come on Houston! Fix this!
