  1. Hoddy Toddy....Go Rebels...I should probably have been pulling for Tech since it would have been better for the Big 12 but I just couldn't go against the team I grew up with. Tech didn't want to be there, and Ole Miss wanted it like it was a national championship. Orgeron left Ole Miss with some amazing athletes and Houston Nutt can get a lot out of them. They return a lot of guys next season, so watch out in the SEC west (they get Bama and LSU at home next season...)
  2. Are you going to post everyone's picks today? I can't even remember who I took....
  3. Big talk...you must have some special insight into the colossal Northern Ill.-La Tech matchup that I lack...or Fresno-Colorado St....or Maryland-Nevada....I could go on...
  4. I'm in. Tough to pick some of these games, especially the ACC teams as they were seemingly so Jeckyl and Hyde all season.
  5. I bet it crossed some voters minds, I mean, when you look at the tie and the round robin, I bet some voters weighed the SOS factor. Lord knows the computers did and that sunk the Longhorns. The Margin was so close in some of the computers, things like Mizzou losing to Kansas and Utep losing to UH and others were killer for the Horns. Texas Tech takes OOC patsies to the extreme. Though I have heard that 4 of 7 computer ranking systems do not penalize teams for playing FCS opponents...
  6. No doubt Mack and Delo$$ need to change their scheduling philosophy. This won't be the last time that it hurts Texas. From what I understand the OSU and Arkansas meetings were arranged before Mack's arrival. Next year is pretty sad, but I expect their philosophy to change, of course these games were scheduled 5-7 years ago and we won't see the results of any change in philosophy for another 5-7 years. It does get better the following season, where we start a home-home with UCLA, and then the following year I think we do the same with Ole Miss.
  7. I don't think they finished ranked last season...and at this point last year they were 7-1 coming off a loss to Zona, this year they are 6-1 coming off a win over Zona. Don't see how you say they are down significantly. Who did they lose, Joseph Jones? I don't see that much of an impact as they weren't really that good last year...the loss to Tulsa did look pretty bad though.
  8. Looks like the Tar heels are clearly the team to beat this year. In the Big 12 it looks to be pretty wide open, with Oklahoma and Texas being the frontrunners as far as rankings go. Kansas is down a little, aTm seems to be about like last year, and Baylor is improving as expected. Stephen Curry looks to be the frontrunner for player of the year... Discuss...
  9. On the flip side of that... I would have loved to see Texas play Alabama in the Sugar...not only would I have made the trip to NO, but the bowl is right between the two schools, who both travel really well. Would have been a great atmosphere with two storied programs. Agree that LSU will probably get rolled by GT, who beat GA is their final game...who knows though, maybe a month of practice will help that QB Jefferson...or will the kid from Brenham be back, Lee? I would really only put NC in that "scary good" category...Duke not so much. Time to start a college bball thread...
  10. Ole Miss is ranked, and playing really good football right now, I wouldn't take them lightly. Houston Nutt can coach.... Florida Atlantic won their conference last year, and at least they are FBS...just sayin...
  11. Terrible draw for Rice and for the Texas bowl...really disappointing since they were rumored to be courting ND, which would have been a great draw for the city and a great win for the Rice program...and I DO think they would win...I miss the Bluebonnet Bowl.
  12. We'll see what happens in the bowls, but your statement that "horn logic" puts Ole Miss in front of Florida is false. In fact, that is the horns pointing out the fault in the Sooner logic that Tech must be in front of Texas if Texas should be in front of OU...You see if you buy Stoops logic the problem becomes unsolvable. If Ole Miss and Florida had the same record, yes, Ole Miss should be playing for the MNC owning a head to head victory. Really, this isn't that hard...
  13. Kinda wish they had gone a little further outside the Beltway (and thus closer to me!) but I am really excited. I have a hard time getting my wife to eat BBQ and Rudy's is one of the few places she really likes (that and County Line). She even disapproved of Goode Co. Looks like we will just have to make the drive (or I can pick it up on my way home from work). Maybe they will actually get some inner loopers to make the trip in their current location, as it really isn't far when it isn't rush hour. Plus the lunch crowds from the office buildings along 290 and also the Beltway. I also have to disagree about Pok-e-Jo's in Austin, they used to cater some business functions I was involved with in Austin and I thought it was very unimpressive...but such is the way with BBQ, we all could argue for hours, but having more options is always good news!
  14. You could take it a step further in saying that Deloss and Mack transformed the program in much the same way that Hitler turned around the German economy after WWI.... I would argue that German citizens were not objective, and the articles I posted were not from Longhorns...but I am pretty sure you were just joking around, internet is so hard to discern... Edit:::I could take a que from your winking smiley...
  15. Ha Ha...Yes, and comparisons of the Lonhorns to the Third Reich seem apt.... So does Mack Brown=Hitler?? Or is Deloss Hitler and Mack just Rommel? In all of these similes wouldn't OU be the Polish Cavalry??? But seriously, did Hitler really have many objective people in agreement with him? I guess that depends on your interpretation of objectivity... Edit::: Wait, Wait, OU would be the French, because they lose on the field, then get saved by an external force (Tech) and then piss on the force that liberated them and claim victory all along....
  16. I may not be objective...but we can find many who are that agree with me... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/01/AR2008120103179.html?hpid=news-col-blog http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/sto...mp;lid=tab1pos1and here
  17. Why only use Tech? Lets talk about the Texas defense against Kansas, Oklahoma St., and aTm.....how did the OU defense do against those teams? I ask in jest though, as I know you used Tech because it was the only game you played where your defense was worth a damn, although they did look impressive against Chattanooga....
  18. Boise State may have a legitimate beef with the BCS, but there is a reason they aren't ranked higher...they play a few games against BCS schools and then play a bunch of conference games against sad opponents...many of the teams ranked ahead of them played BCS schools week in and week out (many of whom were bowl eligible)...there is something to be said for that. And Boise would probably be in if not for Utah, who few could argue has a more impressive resume...
  19. Who said nothing changed for Texas? OU is still the same team, great offense, crappy defense...How many championships have been won by teams with that formula? What is this "playoff" you speak of? Would you have the two teams compete on some neutral field to see who is really better head to head? Oh wait....that already happened, Texas 45, BlowU 35...the same number of points OU has put up on the two quality defenses they have faced this year.
  20. Awesome analysis!!! Lets have BC play Cincy for all the marbles in Miami!!!!! You fail to account for the fact that most schools like to schedule easy non-conference opponents. Also, Bowl eligibility is not the marker of a quality team exactly because of the differences in quality of the conferences. 6-6 in the Big East is not the same as that mark in the Big 12 or SEC. The Big 12 powers played few OOC games against other BCS schools who turned out to be bowl eligible...but that is not a marker of the quality of their teams.
  21. Is this a thread about college football??? I think UT would beat all these teams.... Who cares how many sports they offer, anyway? Shouldn't it be more about the quality of the programs they DO offer?
  22. Nothing has changed for OU over the past two months...except that they lost their starting middle linbacker and his backup... Big offensive numbers mean squat when you have a terrible defense. I love people who make arguments based on 1/3 phases of a football game...UT would beat OU again just like we did in October, and there is nothing you can say to change that.
  23. Well said, and I would add that I know many students that participated in crew, la crosse, and even ice hockey at UT...they were club teams but were well funded, they would even travel to play teams from SMU, aTm, Baylor, and others.
  24. Ah, an aTm grad...that explains so much...j/k I am one longhorn that doesn't mind the Aggies (perhaps owing to the fact that we were undefeated against aTm in my time on the 40 acres). Do you think Sherman was the right hire? I can't help but think that was a disaster. The guy wants to run a pro style offense that does not succeed in college football any longer. Pete Carroll tries to do the same thing and even the USC system doesn't work well without NFL talent at all 11 positions on offense... I share your distaste for the pro game...all I really watch it for anymore is to follow the UT grads since the Oilers left town...Just can't get in to the Texans, but maybe that would change if we were winners. I still cling to the child-like illusion that college football is pure and chaste (except for those cheating Sooners) so that I can get enthused about something in sports. Though I need look no further than my own program to see that it too is all about the money, just not for the players, which should really make it worse, right? I need to stop thinking about this...
  25. No real response, nice...What team do you root for Red? I won't ask you whether you attended or not as that has no real impact to anything we would discuss here....
