  1. Of all of those options, for me it's: Hubcap Christian's Beck's Prime Cedar Creek Onion Creek 5 Guys Canyon Creek
  2. Retail tenants are getting kicked out of that building altogether. The building is under contract to be sold.
  3. The location + office angle of CityCentre make it much more of a slam dunk. West Ave is in the middle of one giant mixed use (Upper Kirby/River Oaks) with plenty of retail/restaurant options. CityCentre brought mixed use to a largely wealthy residential area.
  4. I don't think they have final drawings, but the last rendering I saw was a lot different than the one being thrown around in this thread.
  5. I think this place is great. I also think the extreme hype this place got is a factor in all of the extreme reviews (everyone thinks it's really good or REALLY MEDIOCRE!!!). I've been twice, had two different plates, and thought both were delicious. Everyone I went with thought it was good, too. It's hard to believe anyone could really think this place is disgusting.
  6. Maybe it has been quiet because everyone in the real estate industry is busy right now..... Things are looking good for Houston right now. This project is going to happen (although it looks as if Skanska won't), and Downtown is gaining steam. I wouldn't be surprised if Skanska makes a play downtown or somewhere else in the city. That company has a lot of money and is dedicated to making a move in the Houston market. We all know Hines isn't shy about developing in Houston, and I think that second tower on Main will happen within the next 12-18 months. Everyone needs to stop the pity party.
  7. Wow so they put in a surface parking lot on the portion of the lot facing the park. What an awful development and a waste of a prime block. The lot is too small to build anything else. It is embarrassing (but not surprising) that the city decided to support this.
  8. As long as they aren't trying to lease it, I say it's great. Otherwise, this site seems random for development. I do, however, think Midtown could support more office space if done right.
  9. That's nice, but downtown Dallas is absolutely dead compared to downtown Houston. I understand what they're trying to do, but Houston would be stupid to take that approach. The tunnels are a big reason why many companies are located in downtown and are a huge amenity for the buildings. The street retail and life is picking up with the Main St revitalized, Discovery Green, the stadiums, new Market Square, etc. I like DT Houston's conservative, yet progressive plan. I would like to see Houston change their ordinances downtown to attract food trucks, though. Maybe only for certain areas that are lacking food amenities (Jones Plaza for example).
  10. Ha. Right I think the most encouraging part of that article is that the tower is 91% leased.
  11. Pub Fiction v2.0 looks good, but what is going in the old Pub Fiction? Anything or are they just vacating?
  12. Wow. Can't say I'm surprised. This is a good thing, though. Get Metro straightened out and then focus on a smart, long-term future plan. One that doesn't include a train down the middle of freaking Post Oak.
  13. Fortunately, I don't see this happening. In the short term it is an exciting project, but does Houston really need a hotel on the east side of 59? The answer is no. It wouldn't be successful and if the city is going to support a new hotel it needs to fill in the empty lots between Minute Maid and Disco Green. This all sounds like fluff anyways, so I'm not too worried. Somewhat related...what ever happened with Magic Johnson's group and the Icon Hotel?
  14. This will be an interesting test for the Almeda market. There are a surpisingly large amount of young professionals who live along that corridor in those apartment complexes. It's a relatively untapped market. If this does well I think we'll see more business take a chance down the street. I know people whisper that Almeda is the "next Washington", and I don't think that's going to happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a more active strip in the next 10 years.
  15. I'm the eternal nightlife optimist but..... Opening all four of these clubs on Washington (the hot spot these days) would probably bat .250. Opening all four of these clubs in downtown? Next to the theaters? I mean, it's just dumb business. How do these people get financing? They must have a year free rent or something.
  16. Is this on track to be ready for the Final Four? Can anyone tell just from looking at it?
  17. Finally went to Natachee's and it's really awesome. Can't really explain it, but there's definitely not a place like it in Houston. The owner is very friendly and cool, too. I recommend you go. Now.
  18. I disagree. There have been some spots that have been vacant for years that are now being filled. At least on the NW side of downtown. I can't wait for the Wich Which going in under Pennzoil to open.
  19. Magic Johnson's group has bought the Icon and will rebrand it with a national chain. This is a smart move, especially if they team up with Starwood (Westin, Sheraton, W). Starwood has absolutely no presence downtown and, to me, that is insane. This would be perfect as a Westin. As a former traveling consultant, I will say that Starwood draws in a ton of business just from customer loyalty programs. I don't travel nearly as much as I used to but I still use my Starwood Amex for everything because I love their program. This would be a very underrated impact move for downtown if it happens - particularly that side of downtown.
  20. If this turns out to be a high end restaurant then that's kind of cool. That stretch of Montrose is turning into quite the restaurant-row. Too bad the actual intersection of Westheimer and Montrose is still terrible.
