I don't know how all of downtown was designated an Opportunity Zone given that it has the highest land values and office rents in the city.
It's Trump. You do the math...

So the McDonalds that resisted the coming of the Astoria got wiped away, after all?

However he said they will have to modify the design slightly because of the land they had to sell to the city for the widening of Post Oak. Also when the hell is Post Oak going to be finished? I looks like its been 90% done for months now.
So it's the Interstate 85 of Uptown?

Definitely Mr. Davis' best looking project.
I'm still wondering what that coffee storefront jammed into the side of the building is...

I remember the old Westcreek Market. I drove past that more than a few times. Sad to see it go, but it was bound to happen.

I can remember when that rating and the Mobil Five-Star were considered unachievable in Houston. Next comes a Michelin star...

Nice hole in the ground. Waiting for a crane base.

Yeah, I had to check GooglEarth to make sure of what I was looking at.

Done and done. 3-0. Sounds like DK had his usual dominant game.

Oil is down temporarily, like financial in New York. But otherwise, Houston is doing just fine.
In March, there will be a nationwide revision of the national employment numbers, and then we'll know for certain. What is interesting is that the Dallas-Fort Worth economy is also slowing a bit (103,000 new jobs YOY versus 125,000 YOY earlier this year. Meanwhile San Francisco/San Jose has created 125,000, Los Angeles is seeing 120,000 new jobs, and New York is showing 160,000 new jobs. They need a lot of construction workers to build those thousand-foot condos in Midtown Manhattan.

I haven't been here in ages...

The city/it's people are trying to boost the presence of other fields, but I somewhat agree that Houston doesn't seem to do enough to attract businesses outside of O&G.. Why didn't Houston make a big push for Genteral Electric?
I haven't heard anything lately about GE. But Southlake is getting a regional campus for TD Ameritrade. Facebook, of all people, has a data center planned for far north Fort Worth. Liberty Mutual, Toyota and State Farm have projects going up in Plano. At one time they were all looking...

There's quite a few projects that could fizzle out. Aloft has two other projects (including that really awesome one in Sugarland), there's the GRB hotel, Hotel ZaZa off of I-10, the midtown hotel proposed by the firm that's part of JR Central, etc.
The ZaZa has a groundbreaking scheduled. This weekend, if I'm not mistaken.

Count 'em. Not one, not two, but THREE port-o-potties!
You can never have enough seating...

Whatever it is, timing is right. The Classes of 1971-84 will be gathering this weekend to honor the school.

Pretty sure the building will fill the entire block.
It does. The hole goes to all four street corners.

Yep. They started clearing the lot, as well. Could REALLY use some retail around here.
And a grocery. The place is a food desert.

Holy crap...that could actually look worse than the Mercer.
worser...

I can't stop repeating "the location" in my head, just so out of place but I guess anywhere is better than nowhere.
Out of place...except for its proximity to New Chinatown.

Love it. Having many theaters opening, going up or in the planning stage is a positive sign.

Did someone say Captain Planet?

It's like a great big sandy beach...

Now THIS is the grocery that needs to become a first floor tenant.

Looks like a brownfield, complete with toxic whatever oozing up between the grass blades.

Looks like it's going to happen!
If that were true, the ones in Midland and Brownsville would be under development already. The permit has happened, which is a small step, but there has to be a market for space travel before this one gets started.

What they really need is some spillover from Chinatown. Otherwise In-N-Out will remain the biggest thing going for this place...
