Wow that is not cool...
No it's not. Very scary for a lot of those folks.

A good friend of mine, who is in the fleet department, told me that Childress never gave the employees a heads up about the closing. In fact, upon showing up for work on Wednesday, the doors were locked. A lot of guys with families are screwed, at least for a while.

You can count me as a naysayer.
Geeez man, your a constant downer. In fact, your the king of the "naysayers".

Thanks HD and Musicman, that gives me a start.

talk to katy and express your concerns. as others have said, if you start a petition and get enough signatures, that should start the process. at the end of the day, dont know if anything will happen but at least make the city aware.
The problem is that I'm not technically in Katy, but Harris County. Would I go to the county?
Also, does anyone know who to contact in order to get the ball rolling for this traffic study?
-
if you know any of the patrol officers, get in contact with them and ask them to put a car out there to address the problem. if you don't know em personally, it might be better to go through the civic club/hoa/etc since they usually have established contacts.
We've done that, and it works some of the time, but as soon as the officers gone everything returns to normal. Quite honestly we want to get the study to attempt not only a fight for the speed bumps, but to possibly have a new bridge put in (Over the bayou) about a mile down the road. It would eleviate a huge amount of the traffic.
-
this is a city issue most likely. In houston it is fairly easy to do by petition however you can be shot down just as easily if the the traffic engineers decide it is a route for emergency vehicles and speed humps would add to the response time.
That's what scares me. From what I've heard, the first time the bumps were asked for it was shot down because it was designated as an emergency route.

Hey all,
I live in Katy, and am having huge problems with traffic on my street. I've estimated that over 2000 cars a day pass through, and many are teenagers who are doing at least 40mph. this street is NOT on a main road. It is a neighborhood street with homes facing outward.
Anyway, I have several neighbors that want to demand that our HOA put in speed bumps to slow traffic, though it was tried a few years ago to no avail. The difference now, is that because many of the drivers are teenagers who have just come of age, it has almost doubled what it was when the speed bump's were initially asked for. We would really like some ammunition to try and push this, and would like to take it to the next level.
This is my question: Does the state/county offer traffic studies at request? Is there a fee, and who do I contact to get this information?
Thanks in advance.

Check out the link in Red's email and go to "Entertainment" and it lists the different performers that will be on the various porches / yards along the route. Biggest difference from White Linen Nights (WLN) is that this is in the neighborhood on blocked off streets and doesn't involve stores verses WLN being the entire Heights and really focused on visiting merchants. Traffic is usually far worse than WLN as well as everybody is converging on that 2 street / 8 block area (see map on link). Best thing to do is get there early, be prepared to walk, and bring along your favorite beverages - we use a wagon to carry along our cooler.
Thanks.

Hey Red, Is this anything like "White linen"? In other words, will they have the bands playing in the streets and all that good stuff?

It's in the same center as Time Square Entertainment next to the China Inn (which has very good food as well).
Thanks. I'll deffinately check it out.

For those of you looking for an excellent and romantic steakhouse, try the new Allie's Steakhouse and Piano Bar off Grand Parkway - formerly where Candela and Las Rosas was.
My husband and I went there last night for our anniversary. We were a little hesitant to try it since it's new, but we were more than pleased with it. In fact, I would put it up against any other steakhouse in all of Houston. Don't let the high prices scare you off -their steaks are worth twice that amount! Apparently they use something called Sterling Silver steaks from the Northern Plains. It was the best steak either of us have ever eaten in our entire lives! Melt in your mouth goodness!
Beyond that - everything about the place impressed us. Impeccable service, perfectly brewed iced tea that we never had to ask for a refill on, the best homemade desserts (I'm still dreaming about the white chocolate mousse - decadent!) and the decor is intimate and romantic - with the piano player adding just the right touch!!
Please try this place - I want them to stay in business for a very long time!! Katy has needed something like this.
Oh - and you can be welcomed in a dress or comfy blue jeans!
Where exactly is it on the Grand Parkway?
-
Not another megachurch! There goes the neighborhood.
Love your sig.

It's funny how those of us that came from flashier parts of the country, seem to love Houston for the exact same reasons. Many at HAIF have often talked about how friendly Houston is, which for me is my main love for the city, and it's nice to hear another non native repeat it again.

I wouldn't be surprised if they drop out of the top 10 now.
I think they will still remain in the top 10, probably 7 or 8.
Rodgers was amazing last night. He has great vision. Unfortunately he's so small (170 lbs) that he doesn't have a chance in the NFL, at least not as an RB.

This isnt candy land. Why would any sensible business man do such a thing? Unless there were some kickbacks involved.
I understand that it's not smart business my friend, but why can't a guy who's filthy rich give a tax deductible donation to a city he loves? Anyway, it was just a comment about how cool of an idea it would be to have a park in that location. Don't take it so seriously.

Anyway, this is what Biden said on the CBS evening news last night: (source)
And last night, in an interview with

Rumor has it that Biden will step down on October 5th to make way for Hillary. Again, this is a "rumor".

They've had a sales trailer up from the start, so I'd guess that is nothing new.
If they couldn't finance this thing before the last few weeks of credit market turmoil, I can't imagine it'll get done anytime soon. The least they could do would be to plant some grass and turn in into a park in the meantime. It's a big piece of land - people could bbq, play soccer, fly kites...etc. I guess I'll stop daydreaming and get back to work.
What a great idea! To bad Davis wouldn't donate the land to the city for a park.

Apparently it hasn't been lifted yet (I thought it had been, too):

Any word on the City of Houston curfew? It was my understanding that it was lifted yesterday.

It's my understanding that the flight museum took a big hit, losing at least 50 planes.
Anybody know for sure?

Hurricane Ike flooded not a few floors of the building. They'll know in a month's time how long move in is going to be delayed.
Huh?

I'm wondering about Bishops Palace, and how well it fared.

I've seen wolves on a number of occassions in the Addicks reservoir, and I know the difference between a wolf, and a coyote.
