I understand that they serve other drinks besides beer there, but I don't see the point in complaining about how bad the margaritas are there when that is not what people go there for. Granted, it's the only game in town, but give the place a chance... especially on something they probably only serve a handful times a night, if that. "worst tasting margarita on the planet. Kind of like suckin back some Pinesol" is pretty harsh.
I'm not sure how you come to your conclusion. There were many folks there that were knocking back mixed drinks. Also, many of those that came to pretend they were beer "connoisseurs" drank Bud, and Miller light. You may not know it, but not everybody wants a beer, especially considering your the only game in town.
As far as giving the place a chance... Not sure what your talking about. I never insinuated that the bar was crap, I simply stated that the margaritas were terrible. I'm sure the Black and Tans were magnificant though.

My husband and I have been to the Baker Street in Sugar Land and the one in Rice Village many times... my only question "Why are you drinking margarita's in an English Pub?"
Uhhh, because it's the only place in Katy that somewhat resembles a bar, and my wife wanted to go have a drink or two aside from beer. Of course the corporate heads at Bakers street knew that it's far more profitable to serve liquor in an "English pub", so they did something crazy... They actually decided to serve mixed drinks and shots.
Edit: If I want to go to a real pub I'll head to Gingermans.

The wife and I went to Bakers Street Saturday night, and it was packed. In fact it was packed from about 8:00 pm until we left at 11:30. However, with this new found success comesthe worst tasting margarita on the planet. Kind of like suckin back some Pinesol.

As I've said before... It's real easy to be a smart ass on the net. Just wondering how it might play out in person.

Anyone know what's going on at this Shell station? They took out the underground tanks and the pumps last week. They backfilled the hole and the windows and doors have been boarded up since.
flipper
Not sure, but it looks like they are putting in new fuel storage tanks. I don't think anything new is going in since they haven't touched the store.

I'll leave the pessimism to subsequent posters...
LTAWACS, where are you?

The traffic heading from 610 NB to 59 SB is too much for one lane during rush hours. Even if everyone was where they needed to be before having to cut in, it would still be bad.
Add the last on-ramp by Fournace for those needing to get onto the 610 main lanes (who have to cut through the 59S back up) and the problem gets worse.
Thank goodness it is easy to find alternate routes.
I take the southbound (610) exit several times a week, and during peak hours I find it a mess, especially after 5:00pm. What compounds the problem further is those entering the freeway from Sage, which backs up the southbound lane. I was hoping that TXDOT would add another south lane before they finished the expansion of 610 to relieve the problem, but I guess it would create a problem for those merging onto the Furnace exit.

Man, I can't stop looking at that TERRIBLE base/garage for the Cosmopolitan. That is FUGLY.
I had high hopes for the Cosmo. I am left saying "blah."
It could be my eyes, but in the pic it looks like there is a small piece of curtain wall at the top right of the garage. Hopefully they're replacing that nasty beige with a facade that matches the rest of the building.
Edit: I'm obviously seeing things. Just looked at the renderings and sure enough that facade is a keeper. It looks like they're going to put some climbing vines in, so hopefully once that matures it will look better. Also it looks like they went away from the original color which was more of a brown.

Texas Medical Center
"Texas medical Center" what? Are employed there, or simply think it's the only viable place in Houston worth setting foot?
Personally, I think your overly exagerating. Houston is a great city that is making strides to accomplish a more urban environment, give it some time. things aren't going to do a 180 overnight.

And I think they beat GS during the streak, too
That is correct sir.

That does suck about your car, however, but that's living in the city.
Yep. I've got a buddy who just got a place close to the corner of Kirby and Alabama, and he is having major problems with cars being broken into. Especially if there their parked in the street.

Let's here it for optimism, eh?
No joke... These guys have won 20 in a row, give em a little credit.

The streets getting shut off by the stadium aren't really consequential to more than a couple dozen blocks of the East End. People living deeper in the area than just the warehouse district don't really use the blocked streets. My big concern, though, is that METRO may re-align its light rail down Texas/Harrisburg, and that that is what would eliminate a lot of that road's capacity and create congestion.
That goes back to what I was saying about those trying to acess the stadium from the West. It would seem that both Texas and Polk would be packed at these times, not to mention the possible rail down Texas which would further the problem.
-
We don't know the future, but really, do a lot of people get to downtown from the east end?
The east end isn't an issue now, but with all of development that will no doubt happen, it would eventually become a nightmare. Also it seems that those coming from the West would be dealing with high traffic volumes for games all going down to Texas and Polk. That could be very messy.

I'm all for density also, but when it comes to Uptown, I don't really think it matters. There is no grid street pattern, so might as well be a cool looking tall tower. If this was downtown, then I'd be all for two towers at 30 story. I don't know how to explain what I'm saying, I just know my thought is that density isn't as important Uptown as inside the loop. This isn't going to make sense to anyone.
Good point, but also consider that the area around Blvd Place is pretty sparce, so a couple of towers could fill those spots nicely. I still wouldn't mind a 66 story tower to kind of anchor that side of the skyline visually.
-
I'm obviously in the minority, but I like the idea of two towers better than one supertall. It's all about density baby!

They've got what I think is a new video. It shows the middle of the complex where the pool and spa is a lot.

Not bad i guess... Seems a little to exclusive for me. What I did find funny though is that there is an ocean in the background, while the flash presentation does a fly over to the middle of the building.

Anyone know if this 11-story residential mid-rise is part of the development talked in this thread? I never remember us talking about it.
There are trailors on the site now, and prep work has started. Apparently this building is going up before the midrise that was proposed for the South side of the property.

it was just a joke. i was messing w/ you. That's why my last sentence in my first response to that quote states that i'm wondering if it was the chron's messup or the guy actually said that.
on w/ the show!
Ok sorry about the rebuttle. It's sometimes hard to tell certain emotions on the net.

Either way, I guess that could be interpreted as him not caring. But it was a joke. If he could 'care less' then that means he could actually care less. The purpose is that the correct term is, 'could not care less.'
I understand what the correct term is lockmat, but if you will take the advice you gave me you will find that in context he meant exactly what I was refering to.
