  1. I loved Marq*E when it first opened and thought it had real potential, but the little ____ ghetto teenagers that ran amok bullied any decent people out. Nobody wants to walk around on a date or with their family when you have 16-year olds screaming expletives and chasing each other everywhere. It got really out of hand at one point, if I recall there was a whole expose on the kids there in the Press or similar paper. It's no wonder everything is closing! I hope Magic can do something with it.

  2. No one chases you around. I only respond to your prejudicial and genocidal proclamations. Little-if anything-you say comes off as a joke. No one but you injected gays into the discussion. Hardly anyone but you-if anyone-has resorted to name calling regarding opinions on the name of the team; i.e. "dense".

Oh, wow, you're throwing all that around again... *yawn* I'm neither prejudiced nor genocidal, but I think it is kind of amusing that you feel it is your mission to paint me as this evil Republican bigot, like it's your personal agenda. That's so cute! Ah, but seriously, if you only knew me! Bottom line is--you don't--and I'd rather you not.

Little-if anything--that you say comes across as intelligent or even interesting...so let's not try, okay? Don't want to strain any cerebral stem cells you may have left in that head of yours.

Please--just ignore my rantings and I'll ignore your...er...spin.

    Thanks a bunch!

  3. eww! Why do you insist on chasing me around? *rolleyes*

Are you really this dense? You can't possibly be. I know you're a raging liberal and all, but come on.

It was a joke....one that you missed. Whatta shocker. Has absolutely nothing to do with gay people, but I am lost--how am I obsessed with gays? ROTFL! Yeah, um........yer a bit delusional.

  4. so, are we to expect that the team, collectively, is a dynamo? Or is there just one player that happens to be the dynamo? Sounds DORKY! How perfect.

Well, dang it, I'm offended. The good news is, if we can get about 4 more people riled up, and someone like Shelley Sekula-Gibbs behind us, we could really reduce this name to shreds and get something even MORE gay, if possible.

  5. Hi, just a question...does your new job pay you a subsidy? Most TMC employers offer at least something to employees. MD Anderson is the worst about this (my husband works for them), but they still give $30 a month to assist with parking expenses or bus/train fare.

The only park-n-rides that go directly to the medical center are METRO's 292, 297, & 298. None of those go to the Kuykendahl lot, unfortunately. Texas' largest employer and you really only have three direct routes there. It's a damned shame.

The closest direct park-n-ride is actually The Woodlands Express. It goes from Rayford/Sawdust Rd (just n. of FM 2920) to TMC.

Other than that, you can take any of the park-n-rides from the Spring Lot or Kuyukendahl Lot downtown with a transfer to the train. It will take you a little over an hour to get to work that way.

Good luck and congratulations on your new job!

  6. Just shows where Garcia's loyalties lie. I think it's a sad state of affairs. You would think a Mexican-American demographic would appreciate what 1836 means. I'm quite sure Texas would be a different place today had it not been for the events that happened that year, and Ms. Garcia would no doubt be rolling tortillas somewhere in Chihuahua.

  7. I think the original point of the thread is still being missed. At least the way I see it. The point is that this year's lineup does not have as many big names as usual. Regardless of genre.

The bigger the names the more people that come out and the more money for scholarships. I doubt HLSR breaks ANY attendence records with this lineup. A Beyonce, Mariah, Usher, Los Lonely Boys, Thalia, Shakira would've been nice for Black Heritage and Tejano Day.

Well, reluctantly (and you'll know why in a moment) I have to disagree with you. The unfortunate Hilary Duff, scheduled to sing again this year, broke every attendance record in the book in 2005 with 72,843.

What people forget is that not everyone that we'd like to be there can drop everything and show up. Some artists are doing other projects. It would be nice if every star could sing at the rodeo, but even they have lives, and they may not have the time or the inclination to sing during the month of March...no matter how much they get paid.

  8. So what you and some others are saying is because of the "pop and other" acts, you don't/didn't have enough country/western concerts to attend? What exactly is the issue here? Is this a a complaint that the HLSSR don't have ENOUGH country and Western acts, or is it a complaint that there are too many that are not? There is a difference between the two.

Since I have been in Houston, I have noticed that Houston has changed a heck of a lot. We all know what the Rodeo is but even that has changed along with Houston. Money is to be made and if that means attracting more people, then what's wrong with that? Although I personally am not a huge Hip Hop fan and am actually happy with this years lineup, I know a Jay Z/ Mary J Blige combo would attract a HUUUUUUGGGGGGEEEEEEE Crowd and the Rodeo would make a TON of money.

Again, is this a situation of Country and Western Music fans feeling they don't have enough concerts to attend? Is there now a lack of Western Heritage at the Rodeo? If so, then the Rodeo should do something about that but not at the expense of the Rodeo's new fans. Whether we want to face it or not, the Rodeo has evolved much like Houston has. Making money is now just as much a part of the Rodeo's Heritage as The Western Heritage itself, whether is should be that way or not.

um...no. Please don't put words in my mouth, I have no issue. I was just saying how happy I was to see Country come back to the rodeo in abundance, that's all!

I got George Strait tix!! Sure, crappy seats, but that's what happens when members buy all the pre-sale ones, there was nothing left for us wanna-bes. I am so happy though!

  9. I'm actually excited about the lineup this year! It's gone back to its roots of country/western, hurray! I was sooo dismayed last year and I guess other people were too! Too many pop and other acts. YUCK! Hello, it's a rodeo? in Texas?

Yeehaw for George Strait, Robert Earl Keen, and Pat Green!!! :D

    Repeat thread.

Well, that's not very helpful. What's the point of saying that if you don't even bother with a redirect?

I didn't know I was doing something wrong...this is the West Loop/Galleria/Memorial forum, no? I didn't see it here. I would think it would be okay to post this subject, repeat or no repeat, considering it falls under the heading of Memorial.

My apologies for my lack of observance.
