  1. It is hard to believe that Houston's finest neighborhood is still so backward. Sorry Calikid had such a bad experience. As a Black male who once lived in the Hollywood Hills the racial attitude in Houston is totally different than LA, on the west coast your money, fame or both will take you to wherever you want to be. My friends here find it very hard to believe that thousands of Black homeowners live in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Hancock Park and other areas of La where the homes start at over $2, 000, 000 and they aren't celebrities either. It is even harder for those who never visited the west coast to believe that so call black ghetto areas of LA aren't really all black. Watts and Compton are more than 60% Hispanic, Asian and White, integrated "ghettos" Houston's Finest would just faint!
  2. Are there any Black homeowners in River Oaks now? I know three or four years ago The River Oaks Country Club put a token Black on it's membership rolls to keep from having it's Tennis Tournament boycotted.
  3. The loss of two great homes in less than a month should be a crime. but in Houston it's called progress. Those of us who live in the area need to stay alert and do whatever we can to preserve the history of our neighborhood. There will be a "Perry" type mega mansion build on the Roseneath site and it will stick out like a sore thumb!
  4. This beautiful home seems to be in the process of being demolished. Past by today, only the rear 2 story section on one side remains. All the other areas of the home are gone. What a waste of modern design!
  5. University of Houston nows wants to purchase this and put a huge student housing village and more classrooms. If they get it I hope it will look better than the other projects they have built. It would have been better if someone built a mixed housing project consisting of townhomes and single family in an affordable price range, while conserving all those beautiful trees.
  6. If all the bodies were moved from this cemetery do that mean that this land can be reused for residential someday. Considering the high price of vacant land in this area, why would it be allowed to just sit there overgrown and neglected for decades. Is any one paying taxes on this?
  7. Behind the stately old Weingarten Mansion and Estate on S MacGregor there is a large wooded area facing Roseneath that is listed as a Cemetery by HCAD. Do anyone have any information on this.
  8. This home is now gone, as of last Friday. You can view photos of this mansion by going to HAR Home Values and typing in the address 3028 S MacGregor Way. The pictures are great.
  9. How did the city of Houston lose the eastern half of MacGregor Park, or did they ever own it? The entire east side of the park from MLK(South Park)Blvd to the new JB Coleman freeway is up for sale.A huge 50 acres of undeveloped land at the edge of Riverside Terrace and across the bayou from the U of H central campus.
  10. I purchased a home near this beautiful mansion at 3510 s macgregor. I toured it when Womack Realty was trying to sell it , it was way over priced at nearly $1,000,000 and needed lots of work to undo a lot of cheap interior remodeling. It is now bank owned. Unfortunately several weeks ago someone broke in and vandalized the interior, there are now boards covering numerous broken out windows. If I had not bought my current home, I would certainly buy this one at it's current sale price it is a bargain!
  11. This is the famous picture of the home currently for sale in Riverside Terrace
  12. Jon Schwartz is actually compiling a list of those interested in purchasing the series. You can contact the Museum of Fine Arts at this link and they will forward your name to him. The link is film@mfah.org just tell them you are interested in purchasing the film and they will send you a reply within 24 hours acknowledging your placement on the list. For those of you who remember seeing the film, with that famous cover shot of the older lady standing in front of a modern home with the no sale sign, that home is currently on the market for $328,000 it is on Roseneath and very little has changed since that picture was taken decades ago.
  13. The film on Riverside Terrace is impossible to locate. I contacted PBS which aired it several times, but they have no copies for sale. The internet list the directors, etc but no one seems to have this available. As for the neighborhood, it is on the rebound there are two mega mansions being built across from each other on S Macgregor and Scott, A large McMansion is going up on Roseneath near MacGregor Park, a more modest mansion is going up on N Roseneath, a new Mediterranean Mansion now sits on S. Macgregor near Scott The once abandoned southeast end from Charleston to OST is now called West Macgregor Estates and the new homes priced from the 200's to 400's sell before they are built.Charleston St. famous for it's "Christmas On Charleston" is under going rapid change, the tidy little post WW II homes sitting on their large treed lots are being torn down and replaced with large stately homes. The southwest end near Grocers Supply is getting it's first set of town homes off Dixie Dr. Along one of the most prestigious streets S. Parkwood sits a new Mansion on a hill that can only be matched by the best in River Oaks! The old homes and mansions are being spruced up, and the neighborhood is becoming more integrated. You can find not only Blacks, but there are also Asian, Hispanic and Whites.
