  1. Behind numbers? LOL, there was no debate on whether THAT area was sketchy, particularly with that 24 hr video place j/k. I have to say, though, it's still a fun area - I've got a friend who is trying to convince me to make my first trip to numbers, though so far we haven't quite made it. I used to hit up La Strada sometimes on Sundays, but the crowd is a little too much for me these days... Honestly, I've never seen any prostitutes, but I don't tend to walk around that area after dark
  2. Well, I don't think the homeless problem along that particular stretch is that much worse than anywhere else in Houston, and definitely isn't as bad as Montrose/Westheimer. I walk along that area fairly frequently and never have a problem - at least on the weekends That said, I swear I saw some homeless dude up on the 2nd floor of that new structure the other day
  3. No, no...that steeple building was already there. You were right - the framed, incomplete building is the one in the renderings. It's been finished for a while now...I drive by it every day. I didn't see any exterior photos of the completed structure, either BTW, the completed structure looks just like those renderings....from what I can tell, anyway. I'm no architect, either, but it looks OK to me
  4. I can't believe it, either... Not much to see now, as all they've done is tear out the walkways. Should be interesting to see them haul those buildings out of there! I was hoping the area wouldn't become overrun with townhouses, but I think that's exactly what's going to happen...
  5. Oh lord...I know nobody cares, but I have to vent somewhere. A lady at Allen Black said they were going to build 15 (!) townhouses on this particular plot of land. Is this physically possible??? She assured me that they were going to be very upscale, and 3-4 stories... I think I'm going to puke The land in question is T-shaped, and has the metal buildings on it - wouldn't let me link to it, but it's at 1822 Branard if you use maps.live.com My neighborhood feels like the most disorganized ever, but is there anyway to fight this??
  6. Not sure, but I wonder if the daily rains have slowed them down...
  7. Well, sonofa...got home today to see an "Allen Black Custom Homes" sign in front of the buildings they're taking away...sure hope ol' Allen Black has ventured off into building schools There's an Ironwood Custom Homes sign in front of the place they torn down in that video. Anyone know if either of these guys tend toward single family or townhouses??
  8. This particular piece of property is different in that it is quite large and was apparently cleared in the past...2-3 connected lots, more or less. Though I wasn't a big fan of the pre-fab buildings, dog walkers seem to be quite fond of the large amount of green space I do like what the school has done with some of those renovated homes...they all look well maintained
  9. Anyone here have any connections with St. Stephen's? I live next door to some prefab buildings on Branard that have "High School" on the front, and saw over the weekend that they were being dismantled. One of the crew there told me that they are building a "permanent" building, but didn't offer much else... This section of the school takes up a huge T-spaced shaped lot, and I can't really imagine how a permanent structure would really fit on it. I'm concerned that maybe the school sold the land, and that I'll soon see the side of a new townhouse out my window - is there any to tell if ownership has changed hands? Haven't seen any online permits as of yet... BTW, not exactly a historic loss, but here's a demolition that took place across from the school just a few weeks back. Someone actually filmed it and put it on youtube, which I thought was pretty cool. Anyway, sort of surprising since the house didn't seem that bad:
  10. Agree it sounds like over-fertilizing... I did the same thing a month or so ago b/c I made the mistake of using liquid weed and feed - had the water pressure high, didn't know what I was doing, and I swear I must have overdone it by 20X's (seriously). It started looking rather thin and yellowish, but I did what's been rec'd on here - watered the heck out of it a few times - and all of the rain we've had lately took care of the rest. Yard looks great now, so hopefully yours will bounce back soon
  11. My...if I didn't know any better, I'd say we've got us a Blue Label Lounge promoter BTW, thanks for the heads up on the number of parking spaces...you know what they say, the coolest clubs always have ample parking
  12. Well, here's an update - beams are up, and it's definitely right up against the street. They've had them up for more than a week, I think....
  13. Now all we need is that gas station and the car repair gone...though I guess you need that stuff somewhere, lol. Those rough looking little townhouses (??) behind the car place on Woodhead seem strangely out of place
  14. Yeah, it's not too bad - google shows it as ~0.7 miles. I live near the area and will often walk from near Richmond over to Westheimer and it seems to take no time at all. Then again, if it's up to someone to either try to drive to this place or to take a train and then walk 3/4 of a mile, I think a car wins out. With 2727 Kirby and this development in the works, hopefully that strip will become more of a destination that could be attractive to rail users (if the rail ever comes!)
  15. I'm really liking that stretch of road...hopefully whatever they do there will fit in with the strip. Also very curious to see how the new building next to Empire Cafe turns out - the only problem I'm having are the seemingly longer and longer lines at Empire!
  16. I saw someone link to www.realdata.net on here once before - I'm not sure what the deal is, but I know that several of the sales prices I've seen on there are 100% accurate. Not sure those 2-3 mean that all of the data is valid (I've seen some strange ones on there), but it seems like a good resource to me
  17. Wow, just looked at the tax bill for Wilshire Village: http://www.hcad.org/records/details.asp?ta...t=0441850000002 Quite an increase this past year! Must be a heck of a tax bill...but I guess there's still a wait and see game going on here?
  18. Do you know what the plan is on this route in terms of alignment with traffic lanes? Is it going to be Main St-like, or are they actually going to do something different this time around? Seems like it'd take up less space to have both sets of tracks on the same side...not that I'm a rail guru, but I think you could then have the trains just curve off into a station here and there instead of wasting a lane of space in between tracks. There's got to be a better solution than the Main St line....if they pull that again, it'll do more harm than good IMHO
  19. Not a fan of it, either - but I'm afraid a "something's better than nothing" mentality will prevail and we'll get a Richmond-strangling rail whether we like it or not. I'm OK with at-grade if they can make it work, but given the problems with Main I don't think they can...
  20. I hate to add to thread that will probably be merged, but are there actual plans for what the alignment would be like on Richmond? Is it going to be the 2 lanes taken up in the middle with one lane for traffic on either side? I certainly hope not, but I don't know what else they plan to do unless it involves a lot of destruction along Richmond... Why can't they do 2 rail lanes on one side? I was initially for the rail on Richmond, but just trying to envision this thing is giving me doubts...if they can't keep 4 lanes devoted to traffic, it'll be a nightmare
  21. Miracle on Branard St... Just thought I'd share - went through the usual 311 route for the water issue, and they eventually informed me that they'd pass it on to neighborhood protection for a 2-4 week investigation. Annoyed as I was at the long wait after 2 months of calls. I finally emailed the mayor through Houston's website and griped about the water leak.. Got a phone call a few days later and to my surprise, when I got home today the leak was gone. Seems to be an effective route of complaint... On a side now\te, as soon as I noticed the lack of water, I looked over and saw my neighbor trimming her red-tips for the first time since I moved in last September... Will miracles never cease?
  22. Agreed - that's a pretty nice corner location, so I can't imagine it sitting vacant for long. Then again, it sat abandoned for quite a while, so who knows? It'd be nice to see some sort of sign up about future plans, but maybe there just aren't any at this point? Hard to imagine them demolishing it for no reason
  23. Does anyone know of anything planned for that abandoned gas station on the corner of Montrose and W Alabama? I noticed that it was taped off this morning and was surprised to see that it had been demolished when I drove home this evening... Hopefully not just a newer gas station, lol Sorry if I missed a thread regarding it...
  24. A high-rise where Bookstop is? I can't even imagine something on that large of a scale given the congestion already in the area... Someone else mentioned this before, but I really love the idea of the Alamo Draft House coming in. It would save the theatre, put films back on the screen, and the dark lighting would dampen some of painful colors in there
  25. Do you mean Richmond and Dunlavy? They're building an apartment complex there...there's a thread on it somewhere
