A&M just needs to build more dorms on-campus so less people would have to drive from off-campus.

Thanks for the updates IronTiger

Very nice! Although it is sad to see one of my most visited buildings change so much, this will be a great upgrade for the University.
-
That's a nice looking Fire Station!

Hey guys, what's going on at this site, anything?
It pretty much looks like this now:
-
Texas A&M's agricultural arm is going to get pumped up, and even more construction is coming to campus.
The System Board of Regents have signed off on $51 million worth of construction on land just northwest of Reed Arena off John Kimbrough Boulevard near Discovery Drive. In total -- including revenue financing
system debt proceeds, investment earnings, gifts and indirect costs -- the project will cost an estimated $62.4 million.
A five-story agriculture headquarters building and visitors center will be constructed in order to bring together all the ag elements of A&M in one location. It will be 168,000 square feet.
Construction is slated to begin in the next few months, with officials hopeful for completion in 2011.

This was disappointing.
College Station and Northgate could use some more urban development / midrise buildings.

Artist renderings from the City of Bryan and A&M HSC websites:
I hope they eliminate some of that sprawl and allow it to be more of a walkable campus like the Main Campus. Let's not make this another West Campus design.

Who and what do they plan to build?
Bridgeland could have been more like the Woodlands with a major freeway frontage. Now it is more like Cinco Ranch with only the Grand Parkway. Still not bad.
Lots of commercial on the frontage (plans show a mall and a town center), and residential south of that.
It will be interesting to see what Bridgeland will do now that this other developer has a jump on them with the mall/town center thing, while they are still waiting for the Grand Parkway to be built.
-
They should try to get some land on 290 frontage before prices get too high.
Too late. Another developer have already bought the land between the Bridgeland border (Cypress Creek) and 290.
-
Actually there are 2 sets of apartments (or multi-family homes) coming to Fairfield. One is planned for the area next to Fairfield Baptist Church along the frontage road where the driving range used to be (and is currently being used for soccer). The other will be on the opposite side of Cypresswood from the mall and that is the one that is slated to be built first. It is supposed to be a smaller low-density complex
Isn't there just a ditch and then houses on the opposite side of Cypresswood from the mall? Doesn't seem like there is space there for anything.
-
Off of 290 and Old Katy Road near the new church I saw a sign promoting a new subdivison called Something Ranch...I thought Bridgelands had that area on lock or its some type of section of Bridgeland?
If you mean 290 at Katy-Hockley Road, it's "Stone Creek Ranch" and it's separate from Bridgeland. Bridgeland (General Growth) does not own much land north of Cypress Creek - none on 290 frontage.
-
Humm.. sounds good. I really want to know where this is.
-
The commuter rail line and HOV expansion can't come soon enough. If 290 is so bad, why have the waited so long to reconstruct it? I-10 got (and is getting) rebuilt first.
Because I-10 use to be worse than 290.

Just thought some non-BCS people might be interested in an update on some of the new businesses that have opened here in the last couple of weeks.
- The Culpepper Plaza shopping center (at corner of Texas Avenue and Harvey Rd.) renovations seem to be mostly complete. The main anchor, Kohl's, has now opened, and a Spec's wine/liquor store has opened in one of the larger anchors.
- The development North of University Drive, next to the bypass (highway 6) is continuing to grow. Michael's has opened (and it looks like some other smaller stores are going in there), and Fish Daddy's restaurant (which burned down about 1.5 years ago, just before it opened) has finally been rebuilt and opened.
- In Bryan, a Cotton Patch Cafe has opened near the Premiere Cinemas.
I'm sure there are others, but those jumped out at me.
Good summary of the comings and goings:

It's made with real panda, so you know it's good.

Has anyone noticed the new Panda Express on FM 1960 across from Kroger's? I think they will probably be opening by the end of the month.
There are many Krogers on 1960.
-
I drove up that way yesterday and noticed the two "Coming Soon" signs for the HEB Fairfield Market to be located in between Fairfield Place and Bauer Rd (most likely on future Grand Pkwy frontage).
Wow! And just a few exits down from one that is currently under construction. HEB is expanding fast!

Why the need for the new land, what will be on it, and what is the school district for it?
Buy it while they can.
More houses.
Cy-Fair ISD.

New village. Lakeland Heights. I don't believe they've begun construction there yet. First homes ready in late 2008 (according to the website). It'll go in further down Fry about a mile past the current main entrance.
Looking at the map, it's the section just past that bend in Fry Rd. (the one with the lakes in it).
Also, I believe that section of land directly between Lakeland Heights and the section containing the visitors center is slated to become a village-style shopping center.
Actually, the Lakeland Section is in the same dark green area as the activity center - between current Bridgeland Landing Drive and the road just south of that. hth
