  1. I live in Katy.....I have Farmer's Insurance and they came up with a new policy this year called Texas Next Generation.......mine went up 22%.

I have house and atuo combined and have used Farmer's for 20 some years.

Quote on cover letter I received....."Recent hurricanes have caused greater damage then we anticipated. In order to keep premiums affordable, we must balance the rates we charge with the coverage we provide".

I now have a new Tropical Cyclone deductible and all my deductibles went up and this new Cyclone deductible is twice my other deductibles.

My house is only 6 yrs old.

I will be looking around as this is getting a little out of hand.

  2. I have Farmers Insurance and it just went up $400 this year. Cover letter says: Recent hurricanes have caused greater damage then we anticipated. In order to keep premiums affordable, we must balance the rates we charge with the coverage we provide.

I now have a new Tropical Cyclone deductible in a new policy called Farmers Next Generation. My deductibles all went up and this new Cyclone deductible is twice my other deductibles.

I have had Farmers for cars and homes for 20 some years and have been very satisfied.

What is everyone else doing and people with Farmers, respond to what all this really means......

  3. In the last few weeks I too have heard a lot of sirens in the early evening after dark. This is around 1093 and Grand Parkway.

I don't know if it is police, emergency vehicles or what.

It may be a police rotation of their patrols. They may be focusing on certain areas. I see a lot of speeding on Grand Parkway and do hear high powered cars late at night, maybe racing along Grand Parkway.

As I am rarely out after dark, I appreciate the sirens as it should keep crime down around my area.

  4. I am new-ish to the area - I moved to Pine Mill Ranch in October 2009. I have noticed the signs up for a Mixed Use Retail area right at the corner of Spring Green and Cinco Ranch Blvd for a while now. Well, there has recently been activity there and they are clearing the ground and creating a driveway maybe.

Any idea what might be going in there?

    See attached link.

  5. Well after a little more understanding of what my wife watches, I am pretty much screwed. USA, TNT, Lifetime are all cable exclusive channels.

I do have the option of AT&T Uverse in my area.......my neighbor has it so will talk with him.

It always seems dificult to really understand the actual monthly costs when changing to another system.

Note: I heard you can contact Comcast and discuss locking in a monthly price for a 1-2 yr contract. Anyone doing this?

I am paying about $150 for internet, digital package, 1 HD dvr, 1 std dvr. No pay channels or sports packages.

  6. I am getting very tired of high Comcast cable bills plus I hear more charges are on the way this year.

What channels would I get using:

    Set-top antenna per TV?

    Rooftop/attic antenna for all TV's?

I would like to see list of standard and HD channels. If I can get the channels that my wife watches, it may well be worth it.

If sonmeone is doing this, couple questions.

Brand model antenna that works well in Katy. I have four TV's......two are HD capable.

What DVR set-top box to buy that can automatically record channels? Will use for 2 TV's.

I would still need to pay for internet access $50.......but I can accept that.

  7. u can already see where that BESTBUY building will be, they're almost finished with the structure.

sad that parkway lakes across from it is decaying.

I live in Parkway Lakes......WE ARE NOT DECAYING!!!!!........we were unfortunate to only be half complete when there was an economic downturn. With the continued buildup around us, our home values continue to rise each year. I expect Builders will be building again within 2 years.

We have some very beautiful and large homes and great neighbors. We are an affordable community and share all the ammenities of the Katy neighborhoods.

I love having the new Walmart across the street and it will be a wonderful shopping Center when it is complete.

It takes just a few minutes to get on the Tollway!!

I do agree that all neighborhoods have their eyesores.........and the north side of ours does have a spectacular view of the Flyover bridge.......but years from now, I would expect planted trees will help block the view........But no power or phone lines in our view either.

We do have some challanges we are addressing but doesn't every neighborhood?

  8. We started out using locals Vets but everything was so expensive. We have four fairly young dogs, two are show dogs.

We decided to try Banefield located in Petsmart. We set each dog up on monthly payment plans based on their needs.

Plus we love the option on walk-in appts. on Sundays.......this has been a lifesaver on more then one occasion.

Banefield does have multiple Vets but we have been pretty happy with most of them.

The puppy plan is great as the monthly fee pays for shots and eventually for nueter/spaying.

We have been using them for 4 years and all our dogs are healthy and happy.

They love to go to Petsmart with us and wonder around the store.

Note: It helps to be well educated on the breed of dog you have so you can ask the right questions.

  9. Got my new tax appraisal today.......while the rest of the country's home values are dropping, mine went up.

5 year old house up in value by $6,000. I live in Parkway Lakes.

I guess I shouldn't complain as I see only 1 or 2 empty houses in the neighborhood..........

  10. I had a good laugh at this............there is no answer for walk-in type places. I used to spend $30 for a basic cut with shampoo but hated making appts.

The problem with the places you noted is the staff changes constantly.

A great haircut is only as good as the stylist............

If you find someone you like, alway ask for them. Call in advance and ask their work schedule. You may have to wait a little longer but worth it.

Also, most of these places can put notes about how you like your cut in the PC system. Mine says "whatever the wife says".

If you feel comfortable talking to that stylist, give her your email address to let you know if he/she moves to a different shop.

Using the correct lingo to tell them how to cut your hair helps a lot too.

A good stylist should do a basic cut in 5-10 minutes and not have to constantly go over the same areas.

Put pics of you and your kids after a good cut in your wallet........

I am not shy about asking who I get how long they have been cutting hair...........or going back a day or two later to have them redo it for free.......

  11. So my contract with Reliant expires this month....anyone else dealing with this?

I almost feel like I am buying a house again trying to read thru all the options.

Not sure if I should ride out a few months on a Flex Plan hoping natural gas prices go down or lock into a 24 month contract.....any thoughts? I have just a few more days to decide.........

Anyone had any luck negotiating with Reliant based on what other companies offer?

I have read all the small print, espcially on offers better then Reliant........did see some had kind of hidden fees (TDSP costs) that would raise the actual cost..............

I told my wife whe should do the research and pick one so I could blame her............LOL.............
