  1. That photo is very current! I work at Memorial City Plaza - the three glass office buildings right behind Memorial City Mall. I look out over the mall and get to watch the construction on that building everyday. They are currently working on the 13th floor. I have seen both cranes increase in height once. Pretty impressive!!

  2. Based on a few previous posts I am going to call some of the recommended electricians to have bids submitted. But, can anyone give me a ballpark idea of what this stuff might cost to do? Our home is one story with a detached garage. The electrical box is in the garage with all wires running through the breezeway and into the house.

    1. Adding an additional ceiling light to a bathroom.

    2. Adding an additional wall switch to our den lights making it a three way switch.

    3. Adding an additional spotlight outdoors and tying it to the existing switch indoors.

    4. Adding two lights to the front of our garage (on either side of the door).

I don't even know what the typical hourly charge would be. Thanks!

  3. It is interesting to look over that document. I had heard rumors that a Lowe's was supposed to be coming in soon around the area - just like it happened at I-10 and Fry. Home Depot on the North side and Lowe's on the South. I am actually excited about the Lowe's going in - I think it is a nicer store. Wal-Mart won't be that bad - there is not one any where close. The theater - well; that is kind of a lot for the Katy area but my sense is they are targeting areas South, West, and East. Not North towards Katy.

  4. I live in Grand Lakes and after speaking with the County Commissioner I found out that the Wal-Mart will be going in on the SouthWest corner of Grand Parkway (99) and WestPark (1093). They were supposed to close on the land on January 10th. Because this store will be across two different major freeways from us it will not have too much impact. We actually like shopping at Wal-Mart but do not like the general crowd that it draws...I guess beggers can't be choosers.

Anyways - Wal-Mart is not going in on Fry road next to Home Depot.

  5. Hello - I live in Katy as well. I am off of Grand Parkway and Fry road - we just purchased a tree for our backyard from the Houston Plant & Garden center on Grand Parkway just south of I-10. They are having a 70% off sale...it is a good deal. We purchased a 75 gallon live oak (a pretty big tree) for $75. Normally $250. I know they still have several of them...they are sitting in the parking lot. It to some work to plant it and you will need to go to Lowes or something to buy stakes for it.

Good luck! Now is the time to do it!

  6. I made a point to stop by last night just so I can say that I went there on the day that it opened. It is pretty awesome - I went at 9:30 last night and the parking lot was totally full. I found out from one of the employees that they are required to park at Seven Lakes high school and ride a bus to work, so all of those cars in the parking lot belong to customers! Even though the parking lot was full, the store didn't feel too crowded. When you walk in it has a very open air feeling. It does not force you through the produce department like most other HEB store do - they have a huge prepared foods kiosk, big bakery, huge produce section, big deli, several different stations (like totillas, cooking demonstrations, etc) and the grocery department in general is just flat out very big. They have an entire section for CDs and DVDs called the 'entertainment' section. There was a large book section, large cards/gift wrap area, and there is so much more that I can't even remember. There were 21 check-out areas and all were open at 9:30 last night when I went through to buy my 1/2 gallon blue-bell for $1.99. Go check it out! It is clean, laid out well, bright, and fun!

  7. Please tell me that the retaining walls will not be mint green like in this rendering...

Actually, like someone said before, each interchange is slightly different but I do know for sure after driving by them this weekend that the new Greenhouse exit and I think the new Park 10 exits are green like that. Actually - they are two different shades of green - kind of weird, but kind of cool too. As for the stars - I have seen one or two guys out there on ladders actually hand painting those things. Some look wierd, others are cool, but they are at a lot of the interchanges.

In early 2007 they will start demolishing all of the bridges at BW8 and I-10 and then reconstruct all of them again. If you look closely right now you will see the new support beams that have already been constructed. As for the HWY 6 flyover, it will make things at that interchange much better. Grand Parkway will have the exact same style flyover and eventually will be just like BW8 and I-10 with all of the direct connectors (even though they are not part of the current plan). I get my information from a good source:

  8. TJ, thanks, but no need to rush to my defense. Grand Lakes apparently did not read the original post closely. Being a new poster, he also could not have known that the post I responded to has since been edited...so it no longer contains the incorrect interpretation of Texas law that I was commenting on.

Grand Lakes, I am glad you are so well versed in the circumstances under which one may use deadly force. Hope you are never so unlucky as to have to put it to use.

RedScare, I apologize for the name calling and was not aware that there was a previous post that you were responding to that had since been edited. We are moving to Grand Lakes in a few months (we are building a house out there) and it is frustrating that this kind of stuff goes on in a decent neighborhood. Yes, I know it happens anywhere and it is obvious this was not a random act but the people were specifically targeted. I also hope that I am never so unlucky to be put in a situation where deadly force is the only option, but the way I read your post (which I know now was in response to someone elses) it sounded like you were saying that people did not have the right to protect their own homes in the middle of the night. Trust me - I am no gun slinging yahoo but am a believer of the second amendment.

Thanks for the welcomes - i'll be nice going forward!!!
