  1. This is an interesting post - thanks for all of the information. Do you know when Highland Knolls will be punched through to Hwy. 6? It is interesting that Methodist is looking out this way. I also heard that someone purchased land along the Grand Parkway. With the new Memoral Hermann Katy hospital on I-10, the Texas Chidrens hospital on Barker Cypress, and maybe Methodist coming this way, we are going to have a lot of good hospitals to choose from. And more traffic.

  2. Yep, CyKat is correct. It is a hotel (I believe Cofort Suites). Looking at it now you can kind of tell that it is a hotel. Kind of a random place for one...I guess it is fairly close to the interstate but not really around much. I was wondering how the La Quinta that just opened on I-10 would do (it replaced the Best Western that burned down). Everytime I pass by it seems to have a full parking lot so I guess there is demand out here for that.

  3. Well, I did change my opinion up a little bit in a later post - I said that I guess a Fiesta is better than an empty building just sitting there. I don't know how you could consider a Fiesta at Mason Road and I-10 competition for the HEB on Fry and 99. They are no where close to eachother. I live in Grand Lakes and go to the HEB because of the convenient location. Even if I absolutely loved Fiesta, I wouldn't shop at that specific location because it is so far from me.

I don't think it will be competition for much except for maybe a few of the stores just to the south. My original opinion came from what I have seen at the Fiesta on I-10 and Blalock (which is closing). It seems to draw a certain type of clientele...

  4. Nope - you are not going crazy. When looking at the front of the building (the part that faces I-10 (North) the crown is centered left to right. When looking at the building from the East or West, the crown is not centered - it is closest to the North side of the building.

    Interesting.

I wonder if the roof of the top floor (the 27th floor, the last "full" floor) will be an observation deck that you can access from the crown.

  5. Well, they are cranking away on the crown, and from my viewpoint it appears that the crown will have some sort of functional office space inside. The building part is 27 floors, and they have built floors 28 - 32 of the crown. If the building is really going to be only 34 floors, they are almost done with the shell.

Maybe the crown will be the penthouse offices for the CEO.

  6. I have always wondered if the crown was just for the drawing or if it would actually happen. You are right - the upper floors that are not quite as wide go from 13 to 28 - which is where they have stopped. They are definitly still working up there but only in the middle - making me now think that they are working on that crown. Will it really be 6 stories tall though? Anybody know if it is decorative or if there will actually be offices in there?

  7. They are building it next to a hospital because of the demand for hotel space in the area. This area has been envisioned as the next medical center of Houston. Because of that, you are going to have patients from all over the country coming to this area for treatment and they will need a place to stay. In addition, the family of people in the hospital will need places to stay and this will help accomplish this.
