  1. My wife remembers in the 1950's as a young girl going to a large ice house and watermelon stand on Alameda next to Herman Park. She would go there with her father, they would sit outside and she would get a large slice of cold watermelon and her father an ice-cold beer....those were simpler times!

  2. The building at 5000 Calhoun is just a one-story structure.  The rink in the video at 2:29 looks a lot larger and appears to have second-story windows.  To me it doesn't look like it could be the same building.

     

    The rink is the Polar Wave...it was just east of downtown.

     

    It's also interesting to see the Alley Theater in the film when it was really in an "alley", on Milam across from Holy Rosary Church.

    No question, people did dress up more going out in the '60's and before. Things started to get progressively more casual in the '70's. For example, men wore coats and ties while traveling on airplanes.

    JFK (who didn't wear hats) was also a big influence on business men no longer wearing hats as part of the "business uniform".
