I believe Chris Chandler was related to a character actor named Chick Chandler. I remember as a kid seeing him in a TV show called Soldier of Fortune (1955).

Prince's were very good...I remember that location well. The big splurge was the Fried Shrimp Basket, I think it cost all of $2.75.

Used to go to the one on OST in the '60s....Wheel Burgers, Hub Burgers and Spoke Dogs!

.....my wife and I saw Townes Van Zandt at Sand Mountain on a date in 1965. It was on Richmond, just a few blocks west of Montrose.

All of them. There were only three stations back then, Channels 2, 11, and 13.
....and you could usually find something worth watching....today with 200+ channels you can't find anything worth watching!

I'm sure it's been mentioned in this thread before, but Weldon's was a great cafeteria.....

Or maybe because the owner genuinely cared. The "locally owned is better" argument is bunk, because it depends on the operating philosophy not on the fact that it's local or family owned. Raise of hands: who prefers Food Town and other Gerland's brands over H-E-B or Kroger? Or better example: does the fact that the Walton family controls Wal-Mart make it a better store?
I think you miss the point. Local and family owned for me means just that, in a local community, family owned and run, with typically one location.. Operating philosophy is a part of it, but I contend that a local family owned and run business is more likely to focus on personal customer service than a multi-location, corporate entity....of course exceptions prove the rule.
Family control of Wal-Mart, or BMW, or Mars candy, etc. is besides the point.

I've mentioned in other threads how outstanding the service and quality of the produce was. Central Market and Whole Foods don't come close to offering the customer service one would experience at Jamail's.
Being local and family owned was a big part of it......

I remember when Der Wienerschnitzel opened. About 1970 I would guess. Seems like it was at Hillcroft and Bissonet. Not sure after all these years. I remember sitting with my dad at an outside table there for lunch.
There is at least one Der Wienerschnitzel still in Dallas......
