Ehh I mean our setup has allowed us to host 2 Super Bowls and 3 Final Fours in less than 20 years. I’d rather have my stadiums in the city proper, not in some suburb. NRG is def not small and MMP is the best baseball stadium in the state. It’ll be even better once Crane start’s construction on the ballpark village. Really Toyota Center just needs an entrance upgrade. And let’s not act like Shell Energy Stadium where the Dynamo/Dash play is some cookie cutter venue. It has a great

The only thing European about Shell is the outside shell which is fairly unique. Everything else is American. Roof only on 2 halves, and a concert roof. Unheard of in Europe. 2 tiers where the lower tier is very small. Very rare in Europe until recently. Full connecting walk around concourse. Very very rare in Europe. Bars looking over the field wasting space where seats could be. Unheard of in Europe. Now there are 2 new things added last year, one which is European(Safe Standing), and one which is super American(Table seats).

  2. Is there nothing else on this anywhere? This is a huge deal and could severely hinder the city in the long term. All that's needed is a 51% vote and any neighborhood can apply. And if it's anything like the historic districts, they can just change the boundaries until an area is 51% in favor.

  3. Just walked through and the new Highlight signs and the entrances are much more inviting with the lighting. The only thing open was the game place. The march madness fest is really annoying because they are blocking discovery green and all the streets. If you want to walk from the Hilton to the Marriot you have to go all the way to Austin street or Chartres street. There were some tourists that looked very confused.

Maybe the glass windows and doors should have been fixed before taking photos. Looking at the photos of an empty parking lot makes me wonder if these places are still in business.

This parking lot is always full. Those picture were probably taken in the morning before any of those businesses were open.

Wouldn't be surprised if that happens in the future.  The businesses along Main where it's happened are all for it which means other businesses along Main would like it.  Combine that with the fact that drivers just don't use Main Street that much... it's not like they would be displacing a ton of vehicle traffic.

I'm sure there's a few Hotels and Offices with no ground floor retail that would be big haters/complainers.

  6. Yea it would be nice and all, but pedestrianizing a street that doesn't have a huge barrier in the middle would be a much better choice. Yes if there is no choice, but its sad that its main street or nothing. Imagine if we pedestrianized the north 5 blocks of Travis street or pick your option. The effect would be immense.

  7. There's a new very popular Taiwanese bubble tea chain called Gong Cha opening soon inbetween Zalat and Gyu Kaku. This is huge news for any bubble tea drinkers in the downtown area. I can already predict the downfall of the midtown Kung Fu Tea as people only really go there because there is no other option nearby.

maybe I'm a selfish cyclist, but I'd like to see the dedicated paths like Columbia Tap Trail not be coopted into a park. keep it a safe (read off the streets and away from cars) path for people to get where they need to go on a bicycle.

it's bad enough I have to dodge people using it as a dog walking path.

I'd like to see Bastrop park be completed, and I think there's a lot of other land in the area that can be turned into a city park for the near east end that doesn't take from a safe commuting path for cyclsts.

What they should do is just isolate the cycling lane with a fence or hedgerow in between it and the park part. Then make the entrances to the cycle lane only at the street sidewalk.

In Chicago there used to be a Subway and a coffee shop that were on two levels: street, plus tunnel.

Perhaps the city could find some way to convince landlords to cut a deal on rent if a store took both levels.

Seems like the landlords are happy with things empty. Why would they cut a deal?

I tried the pizza ATM for lunch, and it wasn't bad.  It wasn't excellent, but it's pizza from a vending machine, not a bistro in Ischia Porte.

But why on earth would you order a pizza in Ischia?? Stick to the world class seafood and, of course, the famous rabbit.

I'll also patronize it because not only is it open on weekends, it's open until 3am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Oh thank god. I refuse to go to places that have terrible hours as well. The place it replaced was never open.

  12. Its pretty bad pizza honestly, but I'll still eat it if I'm hungry. It's about the same level as those pizza van guys and the best part is you don't have to talk to anyone. Now if we could get one of those serve yourself beer spots downtown I will be in heaven. Also, has anybody tried Citadel BBQ at 805 Dallas? I have never seen that place until today.
