our fair city of houston has NEVER EVER been a center of "culture" throughout this great state of texas. throughout, the many decades, houston has always been characterized as a "BLUE COLLAR CITY". however, our fair city has always showcased the arguable and honorable distinction of being this great nation's center of diversity.
These 2 statements almost feel contradicting towards each other. Diversity itself, almost always creates culture. Think of the melting pot theory; different people from all over the world and the country come together to this city and share their own culture. For example, diversity is what allowed Houston to have the only China Town in the entire state. The only Mahatma Gandhi (Brown/ Desi) district in the entire state. Also,
- Houston has the 3rd largest concentration of consulates in the country, representing 86 nations (lots of culture to go around) (By FAR the most in the entire state)
- Our Theatre district is home to 9 world class performing arts organization with 12,000 seats (only NYC has more than us).
- Our Opera is the ONLY company in the world to win a Tony, 2 Grammy, and 2 Emmy awards. The NYT even called the Houston Grand Opera "the Jewel in the Culture Crown"
- The Houston Museum District is one of the largest in the country and boosts WAY more visitors than any other city in Texas BY FAR (no other Texas museums are even in the top 30 of most visited in the country)
- We have the highest ranked University in the entire state (Rice)
- We still have the largest Skyline in all of Texas by FAR
- Extremely less important, but Houston is one of the only cities in Texas with a "Midtown" neighborhood
Kind of weird that considering all this^, you wouldn't consider Houston the culture center of Texas all because our leaders don't know what to do with the Astrodome and we're not building a new tall stick out the ground. By your definition, Austin has more culture than Paris or any other European city that isn't building a new skyscraper.
Also, the idea that being a "blue collar city" (which I don't fully agree with) makes Houston less fit to being the culture center of Texas is extremely belittling. By that definition, you have to be rich to have culture? No culture in Morocco? Mexico? Egypt, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Hungry.... the list can keep going on poorer countries/ cities that have WAY more culture than ANY Texas city can even dream of having.

Update: Traffic lights are up at Suffolk and Westheimer but are not yet active. The median has been completed, and Christmas lights are up on all the palms. Work has started on the parking garage, mostly hanging tarps on the side.
I drove by to see Christmas lights with the family yesterday. Westheimer from Post Oak to Highland Village was decorated very beautifully! I really wish the Highland village aesthetic extended past Weslayan. Right at the Weslayan and Westheimer light, its like night & day.

Here is another reference. I think you might be confused where Temenos place is in reference to the i45 project. The entire Temenos place development/site is on Gray street from Chenevert to Crawford. It is not on the East side of Downtown.

The apartments that are being torn down (Temenos Place II) are on the east side. I think you're confusing phase one and phase two.
😅 You're showing i45 EAST of i69. There is no Temenos place EAST of i59, Temenos Place (the entire project) is in the northeast portion of Midtown (South of i45, WEST of i59). Where you zoomed in there is nothing that hasn't already been torn down for the last couple of years. The project is on 1615 Gray st, look at that address in relation to where you zoomed in. Where you're showing is on the complete opposite side of the freeway. Look below, the pin is where the project is located. The picture you sent is where I circled in red.
Also, think about it, i45 in midtown/ downtown is no longer going to be used. It doesn't make sense to add flyover ramps to a freeway thats no longer going to be used (in midtown/ in front of Temenos place).

As stated in the posted above, the running complex opens this Saturday (tomorrow). The running complex also compromises of an event space, viewing deck, and more trials! A cafe is also planned near the complex that will open in early 2024.

but do we think they'll add windows?
If it's going to be a studio, I doubt they'll add windows. I think it's ideal for a studio/production to have the least amount of natural light.

I couldn't find a thread for this but if there already is, please merge.
This site has sat vacant for quite some years, it used to be additional parking for the mid-rise building next door. It looks like now a retail building will go up here. Work has already started, I've noticed work being done for the last few weeks but couldn't figure out what was going on.

I couldn't find a topic with this address but if it exist, please merge.
This building off i59/i69 is getting completely renovated, there is a rendering posted right in front of the building (I was not able to get a picture since I was driving on the highway).
Work is very much underway!

Galveston is what most of the inner loop wants to become and yet look at almost every suburban developer making Galveston less so with their development ideas.
I know its impossible..... but I wish Galveston would become like Rosemary beach, FL 😅 even something like Virginia beach would be nice.

Is there a random MD Anderson discussion topic?
I've heard there are people from the Middle East who pay cash for cancer treatment at MD Anderson.
Kind of makes you wonder about the world-class doctors in the TMC.
About 10 years ago, I had a family member who used to work for Aramco. His job was basically to coordinate and fly in Aramco employees and their family for cancer treatment from Saudi Arabia. The company used to pay for the cancer treatment, the housing (most of the time they lived in the Double Tree next to the galleria, I think they had some kind of contract with them), and a spending allowance. He used to work with about 10 patients per month, often times they would be here for a couple of months to a year then fly back when they're done. He no longer works there so I'm not sure if things have changed.

Exactly. The Palestinians keep putting their faith in groups like Hamas and go try to fight Israeli tanks and aircraft with rocks and ak-47's. You can rail on about Israel all you want but that hasn't solved anything for the past 80 years and it's not going to solve anything for the next 80 years. The Arab world has woken up to reality and has gotten tired of dealing with the Palestinians which is why they have been making peace with Israel, but not allowing Palestinians to evacuate to their countries. The only reason all of this is happening right now is because the Palestinians have allowed themselves to become puppets of Iran and others who profit from the conflict and don't want to see Israel at peace with the rest of the middle east. Until they have had enough and find a better solution for themselves, they will continue to suffer.
....There is no Hamas in the West Bank..... Hamas is in GAZA the only part of Palestine that HAS NOT been annexed. And NO the only reason this is happening is because the Palestinians are TIRED of the OCCUPATION and the GENOCIDE.
Yeah "Death to Arabs," but no yeah the Palestinians are at fault. The should just all die and not resist Israel AT ALL.

"Proud to be racist"

Finally, here are Israel's MOST RACIST laws towards Palestinians.
Listen, let's just end it here, Palestinians are at fault, there is a genocide on THEM because of THEMSELVES, they all deserve whats coming. Israel is a saint, there.

Another example
Why isn’t this being covered? Oh, it’s because Palestinian lives literally do NOT matter.
-
All these opposition posts are EXACTLY why I stand up for my people, because people like you guys do NOT care about us. You do NOT care about kids dying, people dying, a literal genocide! The moment the west wants to get involved or provide ANY coverage, its for Israel. The fact that you guys are sitting here and DEFENDING them or nit picking my arguments without CONDEMNING the shit Israel has been doing to the Palestinians for YEARS?! Its sick, a hospital was bombed, the 3rd OLDEST CHURCH IN THE WORLD WAS BOMBED?!?! WHERE IS THE EMPATHY???

Israel isn't really the victim as much as the victor. Until the Palestinians make peace with the fact that they lost the war in 1947 and every subsequent war/uprising since then, they will continue to suffer.
One has a military army with support from Western leaders, the others are just civilians, yeah ok they lost the "war." It's an apartheid and a genocide. Keep telling yourself Israel is the victim if it helps you sleep better, ignoring the fact that Palestinians have been dying on a day to day basis, losing their land, homes, and lives. Tell me, what "war" is going on in the West Bank? It's an illegal occupation. Another thing, it's so funny how all Israelis are evacuating and leaving Israel to wherever they ACTUALLY came from since they are SETTLERS and Palestinians have no were to go since THAT is where they ARE from. I'm literally not interesting in your Zionist views, especially since you disregard for human life since the civilians are not Israeli.

Yeah, posting a bunch of pictures with the Star of David photoshopped in behind the people really proves your grand conspiracy. You probably should have taken a moment to verify, but since you seem to be immune to contrary facts, I guess it would have been a waste of time. In addition to including a lot of not-Jewish people, these companies have tens of thousands of employees. Even if all of the couple hundred pictured people were Jewish (and they aren't), it hardly proves a grand conspiracy. OMG, 1% of NBC/Comcast's employees are Jewish!!!!! Just a few examples from the false meme you posted:
- Greg Gutfeld. Not Jewish.
- David Asman. Not Jewish.
- Rupert Murdoch. Not Jewish.
- Rachel Maddow. Not Jewish.
- Matt Lauer. Kinda calls the whole list into question since left NBC News 6 years ago. There are also others in the meme who have long since left there posts. And Lauer is not Jewish (father was Jewish but he was not raised Jewish)
- Seth Meyers. Not Jewish.
- The meme tells us Phi Griffin is President of MSNBC. He is not Jewish (and hasn't been president of MSNBC since 2021.
- Hoda Kotb. Not known to be Jewish. Her roots are Egyptian Muslim.
- Greg Gutfeld--> Father was Jewish, https://wealthypeeps.com/greg-gutfel-catholic-or-jewish-religion-wife/
- David Asman--> literally a zionist and you don't have to be jewish to be a zionist FYI
- Rupert Murdoch--> Zionist--> https://www.cnn.com/2015/01/11/living/feat-murdoch-rowling-muslims/index.html I added your favorite source
- Rachel Maddow--> LITERALLY jewish https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#:~:text=Her paternal grandfather was from, grandmother was of Dutch descent.
The meme shows positions that are EITHER JEWISH or SUPPORT ZIONISM. You choose to pick at something extremely surface level to try to prove a point that the media isn't extremely ZIONIST and PRO-ISRAEL. You're soooo naive and fall for anything, your brain obviously can't comprehend the extent that the media is biased.
I hate to burst your pretty little naive bubble, but American politics/media isn’t as perfect as you think it is. We’re sending BILLIONs of dollars when just a few weeks ago, we almost had a government shut down because of finances, we have a homeless issue, people don’t have healthcare, and we’re sending BILLIONS for one of the strongest armies in the world to fight civilians? The US LITERALLY veto’d a UN resolution to ceasefire in Gaza and bring in humanitarian aid, THE ONLY COUNTRY. There’s even footage of Biden saying if there wasn’t an Israel we would have to CREATE one to have ties in the Middle East. You’re delusional and just want to argue that the media is perfect and the US is perfect and the Arabs are bad people that deserve everything that’s happening to them (Muslims AND Christian Arabs). For god sakes, STORIES OF BEHEADED CHILDREN WERE FABRICATED FROM OUR NEWS, OUR PRESIDENT SAID HE SAW PICTURES WHEN THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE?!?!
