Local School District Superintendents' Salaries
Houston1stWordOnTheMoon replied to Chris's topic in The Great Northwest
Are the teachers not being tested? Tested on thier skills and abilities? This is occuring while not paying them accordingly for the job they have to do. When was the last time a superintendent was tested to prove that he or she was worth the amounts of monies they are being paid? -
Local School District Superintendents' Salaries
Houston1stWordOnTheMoon replied to Chris's topic in The Great Northwest
You have answered your own question. Reread your words. There are some very good quality teachers around, but they will not be around for long in large numbers if the compensation doesnt improve. I hate my job but i stay with it because the money is EXCELLENT! My job keeps me away from my family upwards of 160-180 days a year. If the money wasnt good i would have told them to kiss my ass long ago! That same attitude will begin to apply to the good teachers in large numbers if the compensation packages do not increase. Pretty soon, only the true die hard types will want to spend X amount of years in institutes of higher learning to become teachers for wages that do not correspond with the work load placed upon them or the level of education they posses. The quality of teachers will plummet do to the high turnover rate that will be produced by the good ones leaving to move on to bigger better things, which will pay them accordingly. -
Local School District Superintendents' Salaries
Houston1stWordOnTheMoon replied to Chris's topic in The Great Northwest
The salaries of these superintendents are overly inflated. i think teachers should make more money and i also think parents should take a larger role in the education of thier children. To leave the educational well being of thier children solely up to the teachers is a very bad mistake! It doesnt take rocket science to figure out that if the under paid teachers are not getting parental help and support to educate the kids, there will be a breakdown in the learning process. The end result being---teachers will burn out faster. Give teachers a raise. Money and more money is a great motivator! -

I agree, and thats one of the reasons thier salaries should be performance based. -

I think the salaries should be performance based. If the kids are not achieving a good education and are not meeting and or exceeding basic standards, the salaries of the superintendents should be reflected accordingly. -

Project Row Houses
Houston1stWordOnTheMoon replied to Subdude's topic in Third Ward and University of Houston
I have and i agree. The artistic talents of some of the students there caught my eye as well a few months ago. Most impressed with the program. It is also my understanding that university kids volunteered to build some of those structures that are there. I think that is way cool Im very close to giving them money, and for me to say that, its a big thing. I dont donate money easily, thats just how impressed i am with what they are doing and trying to do. -
Sounds like something similar that would have been a part of the Orion buildings..............

Project Row Houses
Houston1stWordOnTheMoon replied to Subdude's topic in Third Ward and University of Houston
Isnt Midtown a part of Third Ward? The Project Row House does a lot of good for the area. They have workers there that actually are on a friendly basis with some of the older residents in the area and an after school program for kids from single parent homes where the parents work until 5pm or so. The programs assist the kids with home work and provide a welcoming environment until thier parents are able to pick them up. I went to one of thier functions there and i have to say, i was impressed. ;) -
Yao is way overdue for some respect. The man is a great ball player and a remarkable individual. Coming to a strange land without knowing the language and customs and in a few short months--speaking the language without his interpreter and taking part in the American Dream/way of life--all while playing a good game Props to Yao!

I remember something called the Looping Starship. Lost all the loose change in my pockets on that thing and the guy sitting in front of me threw up. Dont guzzle beer on a hot sunny day then get on a ride like the Looping Starship---bad combination.- 92 replies

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
Houston1stWordOnTheMoon replied to pineda's topic in Planes
You are correct on all accounts. January is the time where i usualy use the FF miles. Wide open flights and no black out dates. Forgot to ask you....when you were in SYR, did they ever finish that mall thing that was being proposed there? It was a project they were looking at a few years ago. -
Does this mean the car wash will be gone now? Its located on the corner of Fannin and Elgin.
