  1. Does anybody have any renderings of this project? I couldn't find any on that site. Also what is the Franklin Tower they show on their website? I don't think I've ever heard or seen that one.
  2. Since it looks like this is going to be built in phases, how long do they predict until this project is completely finished?
  3. You said it largeTEXAS!! I'm bummed that I'm living here in LA now. It's going to be real exciting to see what Houston looks like in about 5 years or less. It's like the Pavilions groundbreaking announcement started a domino effect with all of these other projects. Pavilions, Finger tower, City Centre, Kirby@Westheimer, I really hope they start construction soon on Blvd. Place and High Street. Even though it'll never happen, could you imagine if they built a rail line down Westheimer? You could take the rail from Blvd. Place to High Street to this Westheimer project to the Pavilions, plus the whole Montrose area. In a perfect world. Oh well this is all still awesome news!!!
  4. Does anybody have the most recent renderings of what the Pavilions is going to look like since it seems construction is about to get underway? Could there still be changes made to the appearance of the structure even though it's already in early stages of construction?
  5. This is so true, and I think true for pretty much every city. Even in LA, the Sunset Strip isn't the fabulous image most people have in there heads. If you live in LA you know that the Sunset Strip has been ghetto for quite awhile. Many of these clubs in Hollywood that were popular a year ago with the A-listers are now ghetto attracting the wanna-be gangster crowd. The clubs that have remained succesful are the ones that usually don't charge a cover and cater to the have a beer and strike up a conversation crowd.
  6. After all the naysayers, I'm so happy that this and the Finger tower are actually going to get built. I think with these two projects, I would guess the next few years are going to get really exciting with all sorts of new construction. Now can't we just build a time machine and make it Fall '08 already. I can't wait to see both of these finished with the new park.
  7. Wow this looks pretty amazing, and they seem pretty confident with their timeline concerning demolition and reconstruction. I truly hope this happens along with HP, that whole area(downtown & midtown) could be a different world by 2010. It feels like Houston is on the verge of having true urban communities connected to one another. Lets just hope these all break ground.
  8. Anybody have any updates on the Pavilion? Aren't they supposed to announce the groundbreaking sometime at the beginning of this year? I really hope this happens, since the majority of the pieces seem to have come together for this project.
  9. I think they should invest in a sound system and make the place a sort of live music venue. It would be nice to have an intimate live venue in the heart of all the pumping dance clubs. Engine Room, Meridian, and Warehouse Live are all kind of on the outskirts of downtown and they're a little big for local bands to play. You could check out a local show and then walk to another bar. Wouldn't that be nice.
  10. Does anybody have any recent pictures of this development? I used to live in the Heights(now in LA) and I loved the charm of the neighborhood. It's exciting hearing about all the new developments for Houston. Hopefully projects like Houston Pavilions and the new downtown park become a reality in the near future.
  11. Wow this is going to be awesome!! That is painful that it won't be completed until 2009 but then this thing sounds like it's going to be massive and well designed. I hope some of the other strip centers on San Felipe decide to take the same route and build mix-use developments on their current locations. Are they still planning on building rail along San Felipe? It think that would help ease some of the traffic concerns.
  12. Does anyone know if they are going to have that ice skating rink in front of the Wortham Center for the holidays. I know they haven't had it for the past few years which has been quite sad. Anyone have any word?
  13. I think it would be awesome if this park had an open air pavilion like they have at Millennium Park in Chicago. The Houston Symphony and all of those major concerts that play in the Woodlands would be able to play in the heart of the city. I think it would make those concert going experiences amazing with the backdrop of the downtown skyline. It would bring more people downtown for events like that and I'm sure those big events would help nearby businesses with overflow customers.
  14. Can anybody post some pictures of the renderings they had in the chronicle?
  15. Does anybody have anymore info on this project? It looks decent. Not amazing but at least decent.
  16. It does look quite similar to the town center project in Sugar Land but honestly would you expect anything different from the suburbs. Everything there looks exactly the same anyway. Regardless, I still think it's great that these suburbs are building their own "downtown" so there can be some centrally located area that these people can congregate. Hopefully the rest of this project when finished will look just as nice as what is already completed. I hope that project on the other side of 59 tries to make it as urban as possible. I would hate for the property fronting that creek to be turned into another strip shopping center. Hopefully one day these suburban "downtowns" will connect with Houston downtown and Uptown/ Galleria by rail. Wouldn't that be cool.
  17. I totally agree. I think this would be awesome if that would happen with each of these suburbs turning into their own little urban village. I know living here in LA it is somewhat like that with Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Long Beach, and Anaheim each having their own little downtown. Then those suburbs are all linked to downtown LA and Hollywood by metrorail. I hope something like this will eventually happen to the Houston area.
  18. I think many people want to live downtown because the feel is much different there than any other part of town including Uptown, Midtown, or Montrose. Uptown I feel doesn't have the same connectivity and density that downtown has. Midtown, although urban in some areas is mainly dense only on the west side, and montrose is more of a neighborhood with homes and not that dense. I think downtown is the only neighborhood that kind of has that big city New York feel that most Houstonians have never experienced but really want. With the completion of most downtown streets walking around is becoming easier for pedestrians. I think if housing became more affordable then a swell of people would move to downtown in a heartbeat.
  19. I don't understand. I know that the central business district hopes to have a population of 10,000 in downtown by 2010, but I just don't see that happening. I'm not trying to be a naysayer but it frustrates me because that would be an amazing goal but I see nothing happening in the future that points to that goal being reached. I mean the downtown revitilization began with Bayou Place and the Rice Lofts 8 years ago in 1997. We are already in 2005 and the population is I believe only 3,000 people in downtown. Does anybody really feel it will be possible for downtown to achieve this goal of 10,000 people by 2010? Basically tripling the current population in 5 years time. I really hope Shamrock Tower happens and is a catalyst for other developers to see the potential in downtown. Does the city of Houston give these developers any sort of incentive that would encourage development in downtown as opposed to other parts of the city? It seems like every few weeks you hear about a new residential tower in Uptown/ Galleria being built, which is great but what about one of these happening in downtown. It seems like interest among Houstonians is really strong for residential housing downtown, but no developers or the city of Houston seems to be taking advantage of it. What gives? Comments anyone? Sorry just a little frustrated.
  20. I think a project like this would definitely work in downtown. I don't understand why a project like this wouldn't get built until there is a large enough population mass living in downtown. If you take into account the close surrounding areas of downtown such as midtown, montrose, the heights, rice university, and u. of h. I think that population would definitely be willing to support a project like this. I mean people drive from all over the city to go downtown for their nightlife, dining, and the aquarium so why wouldn't they do the same for something like this. I think if it's unique then people will come. Let's face it there's no other place like downtown in Houston, where you can walk around and experience an urban environment. I think most people gravitate towards that and that's why they enjoy coming downtown. I think a project like the one they are proposing to build on those 4 empty lots off main street in south downtown would be perfect.
  21. I think Bayou Place should try and tap into that entertainment crowd that ventures to that side of Downtown. Since there is the Aquarium, Hard Rock Cafe, Verizon Theater, and Angelica, I think Bayou Place should try and build something along those lines there. I think a great idea would be some awesome bowling alley. I live in Hollywood now and I know there are some really"hip" bowling alleys here right off the Hollywood strip. They should build a cool bowling alley with a little bar and lounge so people can have some drinks while playing bowling.
