  1. I have a 2G iPod touch that I use as my "laptop" and I pretty much only use my laptop when I'm out of town, which is rare.
  2. i see hawks/falcons/eagles/buzzards (?) flying all over the place here in the houston area. they tend to fly slowly around in circles.
  3. i have verizon otherwise i'd get an iphone but i thought about getting the LG dare. verizon's smart phone plans are pricey. 40 bucks on top of the voice plan so thats almost 90 bucks altogether. right now i just stick with a regular cell phone and an ipod touch (upgraded from a palm tx)
  4. having attended UH, UHD, and UHCL (got degrees from latter two) any confusion as to the ambiguity of these colleges is quickly dispelled during the application process. if UH is has obstacles in becoming a top university, it will be because of it's own merits, not because of some open enrollment school with a similar name.
  5. get rid of strip centers (namely the ones along post oak between westheimer and san felipe). lightrail stop (as subway) sat the galleria mall. get rid of free standing drug stores, banks, etc. encouarge developers to include commercial and retail space on first floors of residential/ office buildings. build a 1000' statue of bill white move strip clubs/ pawn shops further up westheimer. or put them on richmond. that place is beyond hope anyway. drop 610 below grade (like 59 towards downtown) building height limited as to not overtake williams tower encourage more independent shops, restaurants, boutiques as opposed to being dominated by cookie cutter chains.
  6. this is great news. this being houston, not a whole lot of value on landmarks from the private sector and wouldn't put it past some greedy developer to knockover the waterwall and build some cheesy "themed" condo towerin its place.
  7. reaching across is one thing but he could have chosen someone a little less skewed in one direction than this guy. we go from rev. wright and his crazy-ass left wing ideology to a jerry falwell clone. one extreme to the other, how about someone in the middle that can at least appeal to both sides.
  8. i gradumagated from UHD in 2001 and i'd hate to seem them change the name. if you're looking into going to college or are a student, you should have no problem figuring out that UH and UHD are two separate entities. starting with the two very distinct logo's for each school, separate application process not too mention the lack of shasta or anything else referring to UH. if they do change it, i'd rather have it have somewhat of a collegiate sounding name rather some PC contrived crap like "university of hopes and dreams"
  9. tolerance bridge was probably named by the same people proposing to rename UHD the "university of hopes and dreams" and if you have a problem with that...you will be brought in for some sensitivity training.
  10. the mall needs to be put out of its misery but the houston jewlery exchange is booming and they could take over the mall.
  11. i don't know HAIF is the appropriate venue for this kind of thing.
  12. unfortunately, all the electronics stores are getting bad. you'd think a type of business that sells big ticket items would class it up just a bit or at the very least, hire employees who know a little bit about what they sell.
  13. mccain's speech was a class act. i supported him all the way in 2000 and still don't know how dubya managed to get the nomination. but i am happy with today's result. go obama!
  14. i'm just wondering what they are going to do with that sales center. the turnberry tower was over the top...$8 million dollar views of the southwest freeway, a mall and a parking garage?
  15. holy crap, i remember that. was in the third grade at field elementary in the heights. people were really petrified then.
  16. i saw the entire building flicker on and off when the storm hit. i can see it from my bedroom window.
  17. calm before the storm: the next morning: downtown:
  18. becuase it's strictly a commuter school and caters more to an older crowd rather than the type who would need student housing. as for the name, they should leave it alone. i'm a 2001 graduate and like the association with the university of houston system. so far, the suggestion that i do like are: # City University of Houston # Houston University # Houston University of Science and the Arts # Milam University # Travis University # University of Arts & Technology - Houston as for these names, WTF?: # Bluebonnet University (no, not for an urban university) # Gulf Breeze State (a university or feminine products?) # Houston Opportunity University (not just no, but hell no) # Maverick University (mccain fanboys?) # University of Hopes & Dreams (why not name it barack obama university?)
  19. the crap they're digging up on palin is silly. i also heard she tore the tags off all her pillows and mattresses.
