  1. Everyone picked Nevada, including me. My only chance to win is for Boston College to pull the upset since most everyone else put a lot of confidence points on the Wolfpack. If Ohio State, Miami of Ohio, LSU, Boston College, Pitt, and Oregon win, then I'll come in first, Highway 6 will be second, DieAuburnDie will move up to 3rd, Aggie92 will drop to 4th, and Bob will bring up the rear. However, only 72 points will separate first from fifth.

  2. I'm not saying that these guys in Wisconsin and Ohio aren't utterly insane (even Ron Paul knows better than to turn away pork), but I have absolutely no faith in the estimates regarding job creation either. Your argument is perfectly fine on the face of it, without inflated jobs estimates.

    Actually, the Dems up in Wisconsin have been stating that 13,000 jobs will be lost. The 5,500 figure I came up with was a conservative estimate based upon this;

click on the 2nd link. I actually even undershot the politifact estimates.

  3. In Wisconsin, Governor-elect Walker (Tea Party) turned away $810 MILLION in federal stimulus money for a light rail line connecting Milwaukee and Madison. It's rumored that the Spanish company that had promised to build a train car facility in Wisconsin has now backed out of the deal. Estimates are that over 5,500 future jobs just vanished.

In Ohio, Governor-elect Kasich (Tea Party) announced that he would kill the rail plan to connect Cleveland to Columbus and then on to Cincinnati. He asked the Feds to use the $400 MILLION alloted to Ohio for highway projects. The Feds told him to beat it.

Unfortunately, it looks like that $1.2 BILLION has already been given to California, Florida, Washington, and a few other states.

  4. No real surprise here. I came out as a Lefty but leaned libertarian rather than statist probably because I answered a few cut taxes/government spending questions with a "maybe" simply because I'd be open to slashing our military budget to help balance the budget but I am radically opposed to cutting Social Security or Medicare.

  5. I think METRO should be proactive and go after the rail money that the newly elected Tea Party Republicans turned down in Wisconsin and Ohio (hundreds of millions of dollars for high-speed rail was earmarked for those states and the new Governors TURNED IT DOWN). Lets turn their idiocy into our rail!

  6. Mark's- Still think it's the #1 place for high end dining (lower Westheimer)

Brennan's- Maybe because it makes me think of my grandparents and growing up, but I still love this place (midtown)

Cafe Moustache- Lower Westheimer. Don't let the cheesy name fool you. This place is awesome and so is the setting

Picnic- Bissonnet near Hazard St. Love this place for a sandwich at lunch

Mayuri- Best Indian in Houston. Love the Banghan Bharta (eggplant). 5857 Westheimer

Lankford Grocery- Best burger and the place is an institution (old 4th Ward)

Thelma's BBQ- liked the old location better but still my favorite bbq (3rd Ward/Southmore)

Original Frency's- Scott St. Go at 3 am to get the vibe.

  7. Heard from a pretty good source that UH has been working behind the scenes so that if Baylor Med goes into default and needs state funding to help it along, that there will be a HUGE push from all Houston area legislators to make sure that the funding would only come if the medical school allowed itself to be absorbed into the UH System.

I think this is the only positive outcome left for Baylor since the talks with Rice fell apart. This would be a huge boost to UH's tier one efforts. Additionally, with the old Baylor Board (egos) removed from the equation, it's likely that fences could be mended with Methodist to ensure that one of the world's finest hospitals becomes a teaching hospital again.

Meanwhile, in the interim, Baylor Med's reputation continues to spiral downward...

  8. Okay, now we're getting somewhere.

Anyway, it seems like the public just doesn't like them. Apparently they have never survived 15 different votes.

    [/quote

Which is why I hate the fact that we vote on EVERYTHING now. If we acted in the past like we do now, our country likely would have never progressed. Think God things like Women's Suffrage and the Civil Rights Act weren't on the ballot for John Q. Public to decide.

Some things are better left to the discretion of the judicial system. This would have been one of them.

  9. I voted to keep the cameras for completely selfish reasons. I was T-Boned by a red light runner at the intersection of Woodway and Voss. Witnesses said the woman swerved around a car stopping for the light infront of her to run the red light in the empty lane to her left. She T-Boned me right on the driver's side door. Paramedics and firefighters on the scene had to use the jaws of life to get me out of the car. The car was trashed. She hit me so hard that the wheels on my car caved UNDER my vehicle. If my car didn't have a steel casing, I was told that I likely wouldn't have survived the crash. I ended up with broken ribs, a broken right hand, 3 broken fingers (caused by me grabbing the steering wheel in panic when I saw what was coming), and numerous cuts and bruises. I was in pain for 3 months and couldn't do any of my normal activities which included my day job.

So, here's my big F-U shoutout to all those opposed to this measure.

  10. The debate deal is pissing me off. It's happening all over America. Candidates are refusing to debate. They are refusing to speak with the media. They are refusing to talk about their history, records, resumes, etc... And yet folks will flock to the polls to vote for them.

I would NEVER vote for a candidate that refuses to live their life in the public eye. If you want privacy, then don't run for public office.

  11. Wow, I am so sorry to hear this news. Like most of you, I never met him in person but I always appreciated his passion. It was clear that he loved his hometown. I know he'll be missed because I have missed his posts over the last few years. I just always assumed he decided to walk away from the HAIF on his own accord.

  12. Check in January. That is when some of the upgrades begin to places like GRR, OKC, TUC, and ATL. By the way, the CR7s and E70s aren't replacing the few 737s that still serve places like Tucson, El Paso, and Atlanta but rather they are replacing some of the ERJs.

  13. The best news about this merger is the introduction of CR7s and E70s to IAH to replace the 50 seat barbie jets on some routes. CR7z and E70s have small first class sections, which frequent flyers love. They are also more roomy than the barbie jets.

Bakersfield, Palm Springs, Montreal, Albuquerque, Colorado Springs, Tucson, Salt Lake City, El Paso, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Grand Rapids, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and a few other markets will see the CR7s and E70s take over for some of the ERjs.
