  1. Went to Dallas for the UH bowl game a few weeks ago. The brand new Omni Hotel ran out of beer despite the fact they were hosting the UH bowl delegation and a new year's eve rave. So, we decided to venture out to the West End. Hit up two places and both ran out of beer (one was Gators, forgot the name of the other place because I started drinking "date rape in a cup" at Gators since they ran out of beer... everclear/grain alcohol stuff).

More ammo to use against the Big D...

  2. The downtown BB's location took over the old Longhorn I believe. That said, it is really only open during business hours and serves as the catering hub for BB's growing catering business.

Speaking of BB's, there will be a new BB's opening soon off of Richmond near Greenway Plaza (near the Velvet Melvin).

That Cabo's building is too nice of a location to stay shuttered for too long. Would love to see the original Ninfa's open a second location there... margaritas, green sauce, and a deck with a view would certainly draw me downtown.

  3. Why would a 10 unit building with alarm systems, no hallways, and coded access elevators need a guard hut or concierge? He is conveying his message poorly, but I get that a development like this doesn't need the same amount of uber protection like The Huntingdon requires (multiple units, grand lobby, outdoor pool, multi-level garage, private grounds, building art and furniture, etc...)

  4. I agree, Highway.

LSU deserves the berth for sure. Scheduling Oregon AND West Virginia is huge. Scheduling both outside of Baton Rouge is almost unheard of.

I simply don't get the love for Bama. Their non conference consisted of Penn State, Kent State, North Texas, and Georgia Southern. The Penn State win is the only one that makes any sort of statement, and quite frankly, everyone knows the Big Ten usually sucks.

Bama also got to HOST both Arkansas and LSU. They didn't play a single team from the SEC East that finished above .500 (namely, Georgia or South Carolina). Their road games in conference play were against Ole Miss (a team that lost at home to Louisiana Tech 27-7), Mississippi State (a .500 team solely due to playing 4 scrubs in out of conference play), Florida (Gators just got SHUTOUT at home by a mediocre Florida State team that finished behind Wake Forest in the ACC), and Auburn (a team with absolutely no defense).

  5. LSU vs. Alabama part two will be a yawner.

Here's the list of teams that Bama beat that finished above .500 overall; Penn State, Arkansas, and Auburn.

    Here's the list of teams with 2 or fewer losses that have equal to or more wins than that against winning teams;

Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Oregon, Stanford, USC, Boise State, TCU, Houston, and Southern Miss.

Yes, the SEC West is stacked at the top. However, the rest of the SEC was down this year. Heck, the champ from the EAST (Georgia) got donkey stomped by Boise State in Atlanta while all of Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Miss State, and Florida failed to win 6 games against FBS teams.

  6. ESPN censored like there was no tmrw. They didn't allow simple signs like "OCCUPY THE BCS" to be held in view of the camera.

    Some of the best signs that didn't pass the ESPN Game Day censors in my mind were;

    What Do Liberace

    Andy Warhol and

    SMU Have in Common?

    They all died in 1987

Rick Perry's Top 3 Reasons Coogs Win

    1) Offense

    2) Defense

    3) Uhhhh, the EPA?

    Hey Craig James

Let Your Son Out of the Closet

As soon as I realized the fun was going to be severly limited, I left and went back to the tailgate village, which was packed out.

  7. Third Ward > College Station

    Frenchy's Chicken > Dixie Chicken

    Cougars > Aggies

Posting about need for "extra bodyguards" and bus gets "tagged or jacked" and then crying about a reply post being racist is about as weak as the Aggies in any given second half.

By the way, you may have gone to UH, but you are clearly not a Cougar.

  8. Just ban any kind of donations to political campaigns. Each candidate gets the same amount, and not much, from a government fund that companies can contribute to but without any kind of earmark for a certain candidate. It's the only way you'll ever have a politician truly making decisions based on what is right for their constituents. So much money is wasted on politics as it is. Every $$ that these a-holes raise to publicize themselves is a waste.

    BINGO.

Such a simple solution and it would benefit ALL Americans.

However, the Right will trash the movement as nothing more than a bunch of lazy anarchists (despite the overwhelming evidence that it is NOT) and the Left will come in and try and take it over ala the Right with the Tea Party.

As long as billions are spent on the political game, nothing will change.

  9. I support OWS. I am employed. I have absolutely no debt. I am closer now to 50 than 20. I am not a hippy but I do enjoy letting my beard grow over the weekend.

The main demand of the OWS group has been posted here many times but for whatever reason the folks on the right don't want to see it.

    GET MONEY OUT OF POLITICS.

Stop letting corporations run this country. Stop voting for people who appoint folks to the Supreme Court who turn around and give corporations "special rights" above and beyond the people.

This has nothing to do with being anti-capitalist, socialist, communist, or whatever else you want to brand the movement no matter how many times you hear it on Fox News.

  10. Thank God Notre Dame is officially out of the conversation. Was so tired of hearing about the BCS bowl chanced of a 4-2 team.

Coogs won big. Another sellout crowd and an excellent tailgating scene. The Rice game is this Thursday. Sadly, just 1 home game left after that until possibly the CUSA Championship game.

  11. Everyone here misunderstands effective protest. Once OWS has a 'strategy' it then will, sooner than later, get co-opted (for reference, note the dominionists' takeover of the Tea Party and its resulting drop in popularity). Keep it loose, keep it 10,000 feet up, and keep attracting people.

Since I'm the only one here, apparently, who has actually followed the rhetoric behind this movement's leadership for quite a while, let me spell it out for those of you who wrongly persist in believing it's hippies, hipsters or dem operatives: Get the money out of politics. OWS is not anti-capitalist, it's anti-corporatist, and if you don't understand the difference, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how politics works.

IMO the singular demand of OWS should be total campaign reform at the constitutional level.

You need to post more. I had almost forgotten that I had a crush on you.

  12. If anyone is interested in the 'movement,' google Kalle Lasn and culturejamming and start reading AdBusters. These are the same people behind Buy Nothing Day. Without belaboring the point, I support OWS, but do believe that short of near-societal collapse, people in wealthy Western companies will just continue to happily eat all the crap that's fed to them, figuratively, politically, literally.

Am I the only one who caught what you did here?

Spot on by the way. Every day we become less of a nation and more of a market.

  13. By that definition of Goliath, every team that makes a BCS game would be considered a Goliath. All BCS games would be equal.

Cincinatti vs UH would be the same as Ohio St vs USC. I've changed the channel on enough BCS games involving the BEast champ to know not all BCS games are created equally.

Maybe you shouldn't have changed the channel so quickly? Here are the overall winning percentages for the 6 BCS-AQ Leagues, Notre Dame, and the non AQs that have reached the BCS Bowls since their inception.

.714 SEC and NON-AQ teams (yep, the Davids)

    .625 PAC TEN

    .478 BIG TEN

    .462 BIG EAST

    .444 BIG XII

    .154 ACC

.000 NOTRE DAME (0-3 in BCS bowls)
