Could the difference be from counting or not counting parking levels? I'm just guessing.- 1,569 replies

I went by this yesterday. There was a bobcat on one of the roofs taking away debris, the window openings were being widened, lots of noise inside. A veritable bee hive of activity. Very exciting.

Fencing is now also going up a block north of the Art Square. Almost two full blocks (not including the empty Greensheet building) now will have construction fencing. Though this picture isn't the best, you can see the fenceposts being drilled into the sidewalk.- 1,569 replies

They've sprayed the grren hydroseed over the proposed restaurant site. While that isn't very expensive, my guess is that development of that piece is not imminent -

I'm very excited about this. I thought the building would fall down before anything was done. Still need to close and get financing for whatever is next, but hope springs eternal. -

I see a maintenance intensive concrete pad. Even with ping pong tables. And the sidewalk on McGowen is still closed for residents. -

I'm a neighbor and I love what they've done. My concern though is that the phase II towers may block this building (and its pool etc). But I'm hopeful that they know what they are doing.- 1,569 replies

My guess when I saw it was that they were laying out the contrast paving blocks and will cut them into the base paving blocks for a flat surface. Unless someone there is looking to subsidized the local lawyer community, you can't leave it as is now. -

With all of the rain this Spring, they've been pumping water out of the garage entrance on Main almost every day. I wonder how bad the structure is with all of that water. It can't be a good thing. -

I'm disappointed that a 5 million sf project is being considered without a single word about transit access. So some school busses will be thrown in after everything is built as sort of a metaphorical band-aid.- 1,229 replies

I think most bus terminals end up being undesirable locations. The Port Authority Bus Terminal was terrible in NYC for decades until a concerted effort to upgrade it (and the surrounding area). Atlanta is miserable and lots/most other cities have the same problem. The few bus terminals that seem to work for the community have a lot of other activity in the area. The Jane Jacobs sort of 'eyes on the street' effect. With that in mind - now please don't shoot me - I think it may make sense to move the intercity bus terminal to the proposed parking/retail development at the TMC transit center. Lots of people, many constituencies with a vested interest in a successful operation, 24-hour activity, and easy access to the rest of the city. Maybe put the bus terminal on the second level of the parking structure (GFR on the ground floor) to help provide a security cordon and additional commuter parking above that. A true multi-model site with light rail, local bus, intercity uses and auto storage. Btw, the site across from the current Greyhound terminal that had some cleaning and fencing going on recently, now appears to be set as a restored parking lot. Some new asphalt is going down.

I went to the meeting and the bus terminal was not discussed. I asked about it after the meeting was over and was told that the City was discussing a move but there wasn't anything to add just yet. But there is likely to be more information/discussion at a future meeting. It sounded to me to be in the very conceptual phase right now. Now that's my read and I've been wrong before.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the Greyhound Bus Station or the new bar going up at Webster and Travis, but the block between the two (with the car rental place) is being cleaned up. The dirt and rubbish are being swept out. Does anyone know what's going on here?

I walk by almost every day and on most days there are contractors. But nothing ever gets finished. It reminds me of the lousy painters I had a while back. The worst part is that the sidewalks are out of service forcing people to walk in the street. Also, the new tenants have taken to slipping under the light rail divider as they rush out of the building to catch a train. An accident waiting to happen. -

I was in the art store next door yesterday and they said that they had to be out by the 31st. So, when do you think demolition and the new foundation will start for tower 2? My guess is that they'll want to do it as quickly as possible to maintain the construction economies of being established next door. No idle time could mean serious cost savings.- 1,569 replies
