Our happy hour and volleyball event is a great introductory event to help you get active outdoors and to meet other people who are also looking for more than just happy hour. Not just people interested in happy hour or volleyball. The group of people who attend this event are looking for new friends who want to explore Houston, try new things, and get outdoors! 15. HTXO presents A Walk in the Woods Aka Hiking Houston March 21, 2020 – meet at 9:30 am, start at 10:00 am until 11:30 am Meet at Memorial Park by the rugby/soccer field parking lot N Picnic Lane Houston, TX 77007 Join us for an hour and a half, quick-paced hike through some of the lesser-known (and more adventuresome) trails our park has to offer. Hiking in Houston does exist! And we’re going to show you by taking you on some ‘hidden’ trails that even some native Houstonians don’t know about! And, it’s right here, inside the loop! What to Wear: These are actual trails!! Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots, as it’s easy to bang a toe on a tree root. You’ll be shocked at some of the "elevation" in the park that you wouldn’t expect from just driving by. Wear long pants, yes, even in the summer. It helps to protect your legs from bugs, critters and branches that might jump out and bite you! What else to bring: - Water! Water is required. - Bug Spray - Sun Protection - hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, sunscreen - Long pants and sturdy shoes Where to meet & Park: Please, check the meeting location map (https://bit.ly/2M6GKST ) on the calendar before you head over to the park.  It’s a big park, and we try and leave on time! If the lot is full, there is plenty of street parking. How to find the group: Look for the HTXO sign for where the parking lot is. We’ll be on the grass at the back of that parking lot. (not standing in the parking lot.) Dog-Friendly for Friendly dogs. Water and poop bags required for your dog. Fees: This Event is free for HTXO members and member guests and $5 for Non-members Never been before? No worries! More than half of the people going have never been before and many people show up by themselves. So when you show up, if everyone looks like they have known each other for years.... Don’t worry. They likely just met. Look for the event leader and then they know it’s your first time and we’ll make sure to take care of you! After the hike, stay for a party in the park. We’ll grab a volleyball court if one is available. Bring your lunch or snacks to share and your favorite beverage. No glass, no styrofoam. We’ll bring some light snacks to share. 16. HTXO Sand Volleyball Social Friday, March 20, 2020 - 6 PM – 9 PM Sideout Volleybar 2623 Keene St Houston, TX 77009 Are you looking for more than just another happy hour? Our happy hour and volleyball event is a great introductory event to help you get active outdoors and to meet other people who are also looking for more than just happy hour. Plus having games to focus on, helps remove some of the awkward pauses that can happen the first time you meet someone. And the best part… you’re meeting people with similar interests. Not just people interested in happy hour or volleyball. The group of people who attend this event are looking for new friends who want to explore Houston, try new things, and get outdoors! No experience required for volleyball We’ll spend a little time warming up and going through the rules. Then we’ll play a few games… we can get as competitive as you all want, but mostly, we’re there to have fun. We’re an inclusive group which means we still hit the ball to new players who may or may not be able to return it. It’s the only way people can get better! Don’t you want to play volleyball? No problem! Plenty of people come out just to socialize on the large patio, play a game of cornhole or ping pong! Plus, they have a full bar and food truck. What to expect: Getting there: You can’t see Sideout from the street near the railroad tracks. Once you turn, you’ll see a large dark parking lot. Sideout is at the very end of the parking lot and fully lit when you get there. Parking: FREE PARKING and there is plenty of it! The parking lot is overflow parking for While Oak Music Hall (WOMH). If there is an event at WOMH, you might see a parking attendee collecting money for parking. Just tell them that you’re there for volleyball and you don’t have to pay to park. How to find the group: The venue is not usually packed. When you walk in, turn to the right and follow the patio towards the building. We usually set up a table with an HTXoutdoors sign outside of the door that leads inside the building. If you get to the ping pong table or the dog park, just turn around and you’ll probably see us on the right. If you don’t see the HTXoutdoors sign, ask the bartender. They usually know where we are. We usually play on Court 1 which is the court closest to the bar. About the group you’re meeting: Because this event is open to everyone, we get a lot of people who are coming out for the first time! That means not everyone knows each other yet so you don’t have to worry about crashing a group of people who have been friends for years. So if everyone is chatting up a storm when you get there, it’s just because they have quickly realized they have a lot in common. And even when some of the people know each other, they are still there to meet more people with similar interests. Dog & Kid Friendly: Dog-Friendly for friendly dogs. The dog must be on a leash… UNLESS… you let them loose in the dog park attached to the patio! Kid-Friendly for friendly kids until 9 pm. After 9 pm, the venue turns to 21+. Who is HTXoutdoors? If you have been looking for a group to explore Houston, do outdoor activities and meet people with similar interests, you have finally found it! We are Houstonians (new, original and somewhere in between) in our 20’s & 30’s and we love the outdoors! With a zest for adventure, we have day trips, weekend trips & international trips. So if you have 2 weeks of vacation or “unlimited”…you can find new adventures to fit your schedule. Come out and meet others interested in hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, rock climbing and more! 25. HTXO Full Moon Hike January 9, 2020 at 7 PM – 8:30 PM Meet at Memorial Park - Rugby Fields N Picnic Ln Houston Texas, 77007 Shhh… it’s a secret trail. And we’re doing it at night, during the full moon! At its sight, this primal side of you might take over. Ever heard of the lunar lunacy effect or the Transylvania effect? While we are happy to report that no one has transformed at HTXoutdoors on a full moon hike…YET, but we do believe in celebrating its beauty with a nice hike. About the Trail: We are hiking on an actual trail with hills! Yes, right here in Houston! This is not a pathed path which makes it interesting when you hike back at night, in the dark! What to bring: - Headlamp or light source (the trees get thick so you’ll need it). Flashlight, headlamp, phone light. It will be dark by the end of the hike. Bring a source of light. - Water is required! Stay hydrated… it’s easy to forget to drink when it’s not that hot out. - Bug Spray - Wear long pants - Wear sturdy shoes that are okay to get to muddy After the hike, we’ll pick a place and grab something to eat so bring some money! Fees: This Event is free for BCO & HTXO members and $5 for Non-members, Guests. Dogs-Friend for friendly dogs If the temperature is less than 80 degrees, you can bring your dog. You must bring water and poop bags for your dog. Adults only. No kids We have other events that are appropriate for kids. What happens if it is raining out We do not cancel before the day of the event and then we only cancel if it’s dangerous. If it is raining a little, we will still go but we will alter the route. Hiking on wet trails cause erosion and is expensive to fix. Trails are closed after heavy rains. We will follow the rules for open/closed trails. Leave No Trace Put any empty bottles or trash in the garbage cans. Do not throw garbage on the ground. No one is there to clean up after you.
