  1. Welcome back Greystone; The thing is that during the daytime it's a completely different scene because everything is busy and it's always activity as far as the food establisments go. The tunnel system isn't really a tourist place, but rather a functional part of Downtown Houston that actually serves a vital importance. I don't think I'd like to see the Tunnel open AFTER hours as that would suck away the nightlife on the surface. Ricco
  2. what time do you go by again? Everytime I've walked by he was open. He generally doesn't stay open late on saturdays. Who knows, maybe I'll drop by this week and ask about that for you. He just got a new shipment you would love, if you're a smoker. Ricco
  3. Ah, I see. That goes against the information that was given to me by people that interviewed that mental defect (May whatever devil shove something sharp and uncomfortable in every oriface). But as far as I know, my information was good, but he DID put out alot of information, so it's possible I might have missed something. Ricco
  4. No, I think after awhile, it will all balance work out as far as more street level retail. While talking to the owner of McCoy's Cigar shop, he said that it's been cost effective for him to stay open late on fridays. Saturdays is a different story, but I covered all this on a previous post. Does anyone know how the CVS is doing downtown? Do you think they'll kill one or two of the other convience stores nearby? Ricco
  5. I think they did rather well overall. Only one sack that I recall seeing. It's just a matter of keepin the turnovers to a minimum. It was the turnovers that killed us. They'll improve, and it IS only the begining of the season. wait for a trend to start. The defense IS alot better than last year. Ricco
  6. I think what would be interesting is to allow a section of the tunnel to be accessed more easily along several areas of downtown without having to trod into an office building (or have a segregated passage) to do so. The only problem with that is the fact if the weater does turn foul or uncomfortable, it will suck everyone on the surface into the tunnels. Ricco
  7. I read that earlier this morning, and I have mixed feeling about it. Downtown does seem rather empty to me even during the weekday afternoon that it doesn't seem that lively; but underneath is a totally different world with a ton of people hustling about. I think that as more and more retail goes on main, and Shamrock FINALLY gets built, that will change significantly. At least, I'm hoping it would. Ricco
  8. We don't have to be specific, just general fields or whatnot.
  9. I'd have to agree with infrastructure... HOWEVER, I think that a permanent residents of 100k MIGHT be possible in 20yrs IF they take a more active role on being part of the Clear Lake/Houston Metro area. If you're talking about a TRANSIENT population that would push Galveston over 100K then that will probably happen much sooner. Once again, a major investment in their infrastucture needs to happen and very quickly, including an upgrading of their ability to get on and off the island. That will include seriously upgrading the causeway as well as adding significant rail capacity. Ricco
  10. Well, maybe they wanted to make sure the buildins match. I mean, we can't have unmatchin buildings now, can't we? Ricco
  11. Sunstar, LOL. Good question. Houston isn't exactly one to stick with trends for very long. I don't know about pure oxygen being healthy or not, but I DO know it gets alot less healthy if you put a lit match or a spark in the area. Ricco
  12. Umm... you drive there...and then you park in the nearest open (legal) space? Ricco
  13. If anything, that diner will be a hit with the morning and evening crowds for the local residences. That alone would probably keep it in business. Ricco
  14. Well, if someone had any smarts, that was almost done several years ago. McVeigh (May the Devil give him metal spiked suppositories dipped in lemon juice and inserts them with great vigor) took out the wrong Government building. He intention was to blow up the building that planned the Waco assaults, but he was too much of an idiot to know that Oklahoma probably wouldn't have been the place it was planned. Personally I'm indifferent about the building, but it's functional and simple in its design and there is a certain elegence to it. Ricco
  15. LATEST NEWS 11:40 AM CDT Wednesday Four Seasons lounge lands on Forbes.com list Allison Wollam Houston Business Journal The Lobby Lounge, situated inside the Four Seasons-Houston lobby, has been named by Forbes.com as one of the world's best hotel bars for business travelers. The list includes 25 hotel bars from around the world and features eight from the United States. The Lobby Lounge was the only hotel bar listed in Texas. According to Forbes.com, the best hotel bars for business travelers are ones that provide enough solitude when needed, but can also conjure up a festive atmosphere when the occasion demands. The bar should stock the most popular super-premium liquors and even a few that aren't so popular. Additionally, the bartender should be knowledgeable, entertaining, a first-class mixologist and someone who knows how to make out-of-towners feel welcome.
  16. the thing that strikes me, you would have figured he would have learned his lesson. One: go to the bathroom BEFORE turning in the ticket... Two: STICK with your wife! I didn't have the nerve to ask what he was doing the other two times. Ricco
  17. I was in Scurlock tower (in the med center) waiting for my car to be brought down by the valet, when I spotted this little old lady climb into the car that they had brought down to her. Didn't think a thing about it as she drove off. Just as she was turning onto fannin and disappearing from view...I heard a man behind me yelling. Turning around I saw this old man running (well..hobbling, actually) yelling: "Wait! Damnit! Wait!" I asked, "What happend? Did she forget something?" as I was getting ready to run after the car before the light turned green. "Yes, she sure did, she forgot ME!" I just stared at him in disabief and then noticed the traffic was moving....along with his ride. "Yep. Forgot I was with her..again. Don't worry, she'll get home and realize it." "Where do you live? I can give you a lift, maybe?" I asked. "Huntsville." At that point, I gave him my cell and asked him to call a relative who lived nearby. Turns out this was the 3rd time in 4 months. The people I get to meet. I offered my card in the hopes of saving this man some grief in the future. BTW: his son called a cab for him. Ricco
  18. I've been meaning to ask this for awhile...but does anyone know whatever became of the statue of a woman that used to hang/stand on Richmond @ Main? I remember a news report about it several years ago, but they never mentioend what exactly was going to happen to it. Ricco
