From Eater Houston today: A fast-casual eatery dubbed Pling plans to bring Montrose a compact, quick-serve dumpling destination. Pling, now under construction at 223 Westheimer Road, is on track to debut by the end of the year. https://houston.eater.com/2019/9/17/20870582/pling-dumplings-montrose-opening-westheimer-2019 And from the Korean Festival Houston Facebook page yesterday: Pling by Snowfox is a new dumpling house concept that will be opening in Houston later this year. https://www.facebook.com/events/2000919106871435/permalink/2132670927029585
  3. Originally posted by me, September 12, 2019 in the previous thread for 223 Westheimer | Avondale. Details on dumpling restaurant Pling. This is the new building on 223 Westheimer, Houston. From Papercity yesterday: Another dim sum spot is set to open in Montrose by the end of the year and put its own spin on the beloved dumpling tradition. Say hello to Pling. Pling may be the last syllable of “dumpling,” but it also represents a whole new era. It’s all built on galbi, the traditional marinade you find in Korean barbecue restaurants. It’s a sauce you’re unlikely to experience in any other kind of Asian restaurant. “We tried to compact the flavor and savoriness of galbi into a bite-sized dumpling,” owner Jun Hyun tells PaperCity. “We want to stand out by making people feel like they had a ‘Pling,’ not a normal dim sum dumpling that you can see or taste anywhere else.” ....Hyun figured he could launch Pling in Los Angeles or New York, but he believes they’re oversaturated. “We felt like Houston was the up-and-coming new city. We wanted to choose one with a good mix of cultures blending together,” he says. ...The design at 223 Westheimer will have a modern, airy look with an open kitchen in its 8,250 square feet of space. This is in the Avondale subdivision in Houston. The building built on the lot will be dumpling restaurant: Pling. Pling will seat 20. The design of the restaurant comes from Blank Design, an architecture and consulting company in Brooklyn, New York. Blank Design also designed the Tim Ho Wan restaurants in the states (and will design the one opening in Katy, TX next year). https://blankcreations.com This is a low resolution and zoomed in screenshot of the rendering showing the interior. 6. Originally posted by Luminare, June 10, 2019 in the previous thread for 223 Westheimer | Avondale. While riding the 82 I went past this lot, and its literally just a small plain white building that will be tucked into the back of the lot with parking in front. No idea what will be going into the building, but its a pretty small one.

  8. Originally posted by me, December 18 2016 in the previous thread for 223 Westheimer | Avondale. From an interview with Mark Davis of Davis Commercial about the future of Lower Westheimer. This comes from Realty News Report. Realty News Report: You just sold a Lower Westheimer site for a restaurant? What was its name? Can you please tell me more? Mark Davis: This site was owned by the El Tiempo folks, who originally purchased it for parking for their new El Tiempo restaurant up the street at Westheimer and Taft. As it turns out, they didn’t need it, but to my above point, parking is at a premium in the area and it is not economically feasible for folks to pay $75-$100 PSF for land for parking. (The recent deal: Mark Davis brokered the sale of 8,250 SF of commercial land located at 223 Westheimer to Gazebo Management. A dumpling restaurant will be developed on the property.) http://realtynewsreport.com/2016/12/17/the-future-of-lower-westheimer-qa-with-mark-davis-of-davis-commercial/

Mark Davis of Davis Commercial represented the undisclosed seller, while Charles Kwon of Realm Real Estate Professionals represented the buyer. 13. This thread was originally created August 2019. I'm reposting this because this post and other content from me are no longer available in the forum I can't make out where this development will be built, so there could be a thread for the property on the forum. If there is one, once we figure out where this is going, maybe it can be merged into the existing thread. But I searched most of the threads dedicated to properties on this street and couldn't make a concise guess. I came across this bit of news on Identity Architects website (don't know how long it's been posted there): The architecture firm is working on a new mixed-use development: West Gray Point. There isn't a listed address or identifiers in the photo pinpointing the location on W Gray. This may be in River Oaks, Montrose or Midtown. Here's what's posted: New urban retail that we are excited about. Stay tuned for more information. http://http//www.identityarchitects.com/bidders-list
  14. (Reposting so previous content and comments are visible as well as searchable on Google and through the forum's search) A new mixed-use development may be erected somewhere off of Washington Ave, possibly in either the Rice Military neighborhood or Washington Ave Corridor. The name of the proposed development is Revival Off Washington. Identity Architects designed the building. Urbannizer posted about this development in August in the thread for the bars on the 5100 block of Washington Ave here: https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/18093-another-bar-on-washington But since that thread is about 5100 block of Washington Ave that has ongoing construction related to a different project, this thread was created. Having a separate thread for this development makes it easier to find and read updates and buildout photos if and when this is built. https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/18093-another-bar-on-washington/?do=findComment&comment=597666 https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/18093-another-bar-on-washington/?do=findComment&comment=597713 https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/18093-another-bar-on-washington/?do=findComment&comment=603757
  15. This thread was originally created September 2019. I'm reposting this because this post and other content from me are no longer available in the forum. There is a new mixed-use development proposed somewhere off of Washington Ave in Houston. There isn't an address attached to this yet. This was first posted in the thread for the 5100 block of Washington Avenue but will not be located there. Having a separate thread for this will keep all posts about this project in one place. Once the address is known, mods can add it to the thread's title.
