  1. 2 new tenants were announced for Edge Realty Partners' redevelopment project in Bellaire at 5422 Bellaire Blvd: New York Deli & Coffee Shop and Bagel Shop Bakery. Both shops are part of the redevelopment of the center with the pawn shop ( Money Mart or Money Mart Pawn & Jewelry ). From CultureMap Houston yesterday: Bellaire residents won’t have to drive very far to get fresh bagels in 2020. New York Deli & Coffee Shop and its companion bagel shop, the 44-year old staple of Houston’s Jewish community, will add a second location near the Bellaire Triangle, partner Michael Saghian tells CultureMap. Saghian and his partners, Shaun Leva and bagel shop co-founder Ed Gavrila, have purchased a former drug store/pawn shop at 5422 Bellaire Blvd that will allow them to expand all of their current businesses: Houston Catering Concepts, New York Deli & Coffee Shop, and the Bagel Shop Bakery. Currently, the partners expect to move the catering business from its current home on lower Westheimer to the new facility some time in the second quarter of 2020; the retail spaces will open in the third quarter. The approximately 12,000-square-foot building offers enough room for HCC, a business that Saghian says delivers 45 to 50 corporate catering jobs every weekday, to expand its operations as well as provide a 5,000-square foot, 200-seat second location of the popular diner. The space will also have a private events room capable of seating 120 people. In addition to housing a catering kitchen and the restaurant, the new space will also offer a second location for the bagel shop. 3. I agree. This forum covers areas that are far from each other and not connected in any way. Which defeats the point of having forums that are organized and easy to follow or contribute (it shouldn't take guesswork to find a topic or figure out where something should go, which is the case here and in other forums since these changes were implemented a month and half ago). There's the city of Bellaire mixed with Bunker Hill and everything else. It makes no sense. And it makes no sense that the suburb forums have been nuked and merged with parts of town in the city of Houston. Like the Pearland area shares the same forum as southeast Houston (Sunnyside and South Park that are in the city of Houston) and the Woodlands shares the same forum as Acres Home and neighborhoods that are in the northern part of town in the city of Houston. There should be a catch all forum for neighborhoods in the city of Houston, forums that are separated by parts of town (one of southwest Houston, one for southeast Houston, one for east Houston, one for northeast Houston, and so on). Then a thread for the suburbs (Katy area - would include Fulshear and other towns in that area, Pearland area - would include Manvel, Alvin, etc, Cypress, The Woodlands - would include Shenandoah and Conroe, and so on) As for this, there should be threads for neighborhoods that have lots of developments going on: Galleria and Uptown area, Memorial area, Washington Corridor, Garden Oaks / Oak Forest areas, Rice Village and West U area, Astrodome area (that's the name of area), and so on, similar to the dedicated threads for downtown, the Heights, and the Medical Center. To me and others here (who have shared the same concerns privately) that makes sense and makes it easy for everyone. This current setup doesn't make sense.

Originally posted by Angostura, October 31, 2017 in the thread for 206 W 27th St. Lease rates in the Heights have gotten to the point that we're only really seeing established concepts, or new outposts from experienced operators, moving into new developments. Think of what's recently opened or slated to open in the next year or so: - Bernie's - Better Luck Tomorrow - Cane Rosso - Cloud 10 - Helen - Melange Creperie - Mellow Mushroom - Wooster's Annex/Heights Bier Garden- Bosscat - Dish Society - Hopdoddy - Snooze - Superica BLT is the only original concept, and given the pedigree of the ownership team, it's as close to a sure thing as there is. We're already seeing some of the development getting priced out of the Heights happening in Shady Acres (at least 4 new bars along 19th), and a lot of new stuff is slated for the east half of Washington (1st/6th ward) and east of downtown.

  8. Website for Common Desk at the Block in Houston. There are no renderings yet and no photos of the build out on the website or their social media. I'm hoping someone tells them the Houston office is not in EaDo but Second Ward. https://thecommondesk.com/locations/eado-houston-coworking/
  9. Last week, another tenant was announced for The Block, Ancorian's new Second Ward development at 2339 Commerce St: The announcement provided insight on the coworking office reported over the last two years. Ancorian signed Common Desk, a coworking office from Dallas. I think the address Houston Chronicle reported from the press release is wrong. Instead of 2339 Commerce, the Chronicle lists 2339 Canal St. From Houston Chronicle last week: Coworking company Common Desk opened its first location in 2012 in Deep Ellum, a neighborhood just east of downtown Dallas known for its arts and entertainment venues. The company saw similar characteristics in Houston’s EaDo, where it's planning its newest outpost. Dallas-based Common Desk will occupy 25,000-square-feet in a warehouse redevelopment project at 2339 Canal St. called The Block. “EaDo reminds us of Deep Ellum,” Nick Clark, CEO of Common Desk, said in an announcement. “It has the cultural authenticity and significance that we as a brand love to build a foundation from, offering the diverse variety of concepts and convenience you want from a submarket, without the congestion and parking difficulties you might find in a central business district.” The new EaDo coworking space will have shared desks, eight conference rooms, private offices and suites for larger teams. Amenities will include a fitness concept, an outdoor patio, coffee shop, wet bar and shared kitchen. It will open next summer, the company said. From Houstonia Just across the currently under-construction Dallas Street from the brewery, the distillery is showcasing vodka and gin, typical of new distilleries because they don’t require aging and can be served immediately. The vodka is distilled eight times, stripping away harshness and leaving a relatively clean, smooth sip. The gin is produced with hops used at the brewery, with the first batch including Cascade, and is lighter on the juniper profile that defines the spirit. A taste of the gin revealed a combination of fruity and earthy notes, with the sharp sweetness of black licorice pushing its way to the front. The distillery will be changing the featured hop for its gin, allowing variations that might bend it to a more citrusy profile, or to something more bitter and herbal. Soroka says 8th Wonder plans to produce white brandy and absinthe, and will soon dive into whiskey, rye, and bourbon, which all take longer to produce. And you can drink all this liquor inside the distillery’s post-industrial, extremely 2018 tasting room. There’s subway tile and brick walls, high ceilings with exposed beams, bourbon barrels sprinkled across the floor, and a chalkboard describing special vodka and gin cocktails, plus standard neat pours ($5 each). Soroka calls it “an intimate, elevated experience,” different from the broader, casual experience of the brewery, where pets roam in the outdoor beer garden and kids can cackle as loud as they want. But that’s the evolution: A brewery decked in Astros nostalgia and Houston memorabilia here, a cool subway-tile distillery tasting room there. https://www.houstoniamag.com/articles/2018/7/24/8th-wonder-distillery From 8th Wonder Distillery: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bk8XbDTneKR

Located across the street from the existing brewery and its backyard WonderWorld area, the distillery and tasting room were both announced in October 2017. The distillery will be serving the new spirits in signature cocktails or customers can sample it neat if they would prefer. The same inventiveness that goes into concocting the flavor profiles of the brewery's beer is also seeping into how they make spirits.rs and see what people think." "We use the hops we use at the brewery in our gin which give it a very floral taste," 8th Wonder co-founder and president Ryan Soroka said Monday. "Our vodka is distilled eight times to give it fresher, clean taste." "It's a much more intimate feel than the brewery space," Soroka said. "We're ready to open the doors and see what people think." ...There are plans to introduce whiskey and other spirits later, according to Soroka. Some of the distilling barrels and materials are a part of the decor inside the tasting room, giving patrons an up close look at the process. "There is a white brandy on the way, and soon we will be making whiskey and bourbon but those be won't be available for a few years," Soroka said. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/entertainment/restaurants-bars/article/8th-Wonder-Brewery-s-new-distillery-opens-to-the-13043209.php

Highlights from today's Houston Business Journal article about Paul Revere Revolution Rum Distillery at 2201 Dallas St: Paul Revere Rum Distillery has been in the works for nearly five years and is set to open in east downtown in the coming weeks, founder and partner Paul Stephens told the Houston Business Journal. Stephens, alongside partners Morris Nichols, Peter Vo and Chad Hallmark, leased roughly 2,500 square feet at 2201 Dallas St. in east downtown for the rum distillery. The distillery is located just down the street from the fast-growing 8th Wonder Brewery and across the street from Ancorian's East Village development, which will contain a large patio for food trucks and several bars and restaurants. "We’ve spent the last 12 months building out the distillery and getting ready for people to come visit us," Nichols said. Stephens leased the space at 2201 Dallas St. in 2014. Aside from the partners, there are no outside investors in Paul Revere Rum, which was previously known as Revolution Rum. That's allowed them a flexible timeline to develop the clear rum that will be available when doors open. The distillery is licensed to sell no more than 3,000 gallons of rum for on-premise consumption and 3,500 gallons for off-premise consumption annually. Customers will be able to buy two commemorative bottles of Paul Revere Rum every 30 days, according to guidelines from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. "Our goal is to make the best clear rum in a bottle," Stephens said. The distillery wants to break the mold of rum being marketed as a vacation or island drink. And rather than selling flavored or spiced rums, the partners plan to eventually develop and sell spice packets that customers can add to Paul Revere Rum. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2017/01/18/houstons-first-rum-distillery-nears-opening-date.html
