On the Gulf Freeway feeder, near Fuqua, there is a Mexican restaurant called Las Haciendas. Directly in back, is or was a Fuddruckers.
Sootycat is very much correct although I must add the restaurant was not always called Las Haciendas, it believe it was formerly known as "Mexico Lindo" perhaps that's the restaurant irontiger is referring to.

I swear if they change the exterior of this I will loose faith in Houstonian architecture forever! PLEASE LEAVE IT AS IS!

Just as an aside, no matter what's it's called, Transco or Williams, no matter what angle from which it's photographed, that is one sexy tower. Houston's trophy tower on so many levels!
'
Absolutely! Which prompts me to say, with all the projects in Houston both awesome and lame in mind, "Wasn't I lucky to be born in my favorite city!"

Does anyone know if the proposed makeover of Avenue of the Americas into a more pedestrian friendly street was approved?
I believe it was, it's been mentioned in a thread somewhere, maybe someone could point fernz in the right direction?
EDIT: I found it! In this thread.... Convention Center Redevelopment + Future 14-20- Story Hotel, the confirmation could be found in Urbannizer's post (#50)(page 2) I would have linked it but it would probably wouldn't work if I did.

Wow monarch has such well written posts, it almost makes me believe monarch is an actual monarch! Anyway, I would assume the budget had some sort of role in the design of the building right? Overall I would say its likeable but not timeless.

It does look like the line that wraps around is lit, but I think that's just the rendering.
If it is lit, then I think keeping it white would be classy.
Normally I'm all for colors, but I think it might cheapen this design somewhat.
You have a point there. Nice hotel+ ugly lighting= sad haifers

I barely noticed the white lighting on the building which is awesome. However, I must add Gensler should consider making these white lights multicolor so as to add a bit of flare to Greenstreet right? I mean what better way to show people Greenstreet exists with lights, although media publicity wouldn't be a bad thing either.
EDIT: I am looking at white lighting on those renderings right? If I am seriously mistaken please forgive me.

absolutely amazing I cannot wait for this to start especially since I visit daybook now and again!

Almost fell out of my chair reading the slightly misleading title, anyways that's great for Austin! For some reason I prefer the second rendering of the complex as opposed to the newest or maybe I need new glasses...

Beautiful, It almost looks like the downtown of a very small city and then you realize its Houston. lol

Yeah that pretty much explains it. This must be the part of no zoning that people hate.

Hello fellow HAIF-ers I have recently noticed (I know extremely late and ridiculous) that a few places in good ol' U.S of A are getting a supertall (aside from New York and Chicago) places like L.A., San Francisco, Philadelphia, and even Miami so with all these supertalls being built in dreadful places like those (Forgive me if I offend, I naturally hate any city other than Houston and Paris)... where is Houston's new supertall? I mean a city with above average prosperity or so they say should certainly have a piece of the supertall pie!

Only in Houston does a modern and classy tower get built next to a mcdonald's XD ah the wonders of no zoning!

All in favor of blowing up this wretched mess? It is absolutely ridiculous that such a horrid building was allowed to tower into the sky. Why don't they just gut the back and fit it with a one way glass curtain. Or they could gut the back and finish the building's other half! Which could clearly be a fix that makes the building look less of an abomination. Overall this mercer couldn't possibly stand with the lights of the Williams tower.

Personally I don't think Houston should go in the direction of northern neighbor it only accentuates a rivalry between the cities. Perhaps it should take a lesson from Atlanta which has soft lighting that is pleasurable to the eye and sophisticated rather than colorful and messy like Dallas. Don't get me wrong a little color never hurt anyone but since the city cares so much as to even having corporate logos they should take a softer approach on the many architecturally significant buildings like Pennzoil, gulf building, esperson, bank of America, etc. Not that the city government is even considering lighting on downtown skyscrapers.

They Should develop southern downtown as a essential retail district with all the target and what not mentioned above then work on Dallas St.
They should also develop southern downtown with more residential and some parks.

This plot of land would be a great spot to do a hotel/office/residential combo, perhaps leading to a 1,000+ footer. There's not a better time to do it, given the hotel, housing and office markets in Houston. The city should pony up some huge tax incentives for this, since it's such a high profile site in the heart of downtown and at the most visible stop on the rail line. Get it done Annise.
That's actually not a bad idea. What better time to build a mixed use super tall with all the hotels and residences going up downtown. Someone should write to the city and make them think about it. There's no better plot for such a tower anywhere! Hopefully they realize the potential.

Will anyone film the implosion?

I can't help but wonder, doesn't it need something to attract people. Maybe some sort of lighting scheme like L.A. live to let people know that it's there. It would really attract people if it had an observation tower I mean come on who doesn't want to look at our town!
Then again if this is a sort of semi- high end project the whole lighting scheme wouldn't be appreciated.

Nice! Thanks for allowing us to look at that. Great time to live in Houston!

I don't know about this project. I think they should wait to see if the Greenstreet Project is a success and then go from there. Just to be secure.

One of the pennzoil buildings looks slightly taller. Hmmm... that or I forgot about perspective. Most likely the second part.
Guilty Pleasures: Movies/Music

I like watching classic films. I also watch movies from today so it's not entirely odd. I'm 17 so my family views it with extreme peculiarity. I constantly explain to them that these films have a lot of things today's films don't have. That is talent! I don't know why but the music always gets me when I watch these films, I literally have a playlist devoted to film scores. Enough with my rambling.
