I have a hard time accepting the fears from nearby residents on massive traffic increases because a residential high rise is built there. Do people believe that everyone is going to suddenly leave and go to work at the exact same time? This is not a sports or concert facility where everyone leaves when the game is over. Go and watch near the Museum Tower, Ville de Este, or any of the high rises near Herman park. There is very little traffic at any of those places.

What is the Sabine park that is being proposed?
-
I have no idea but that would be awesome.
I can confirm after speaking with the leasing agent that Phase II will replace Beck's Prime all the way towards Alabama.
-
sadly...........I think they are pricing those apts. way out there.....I can't see it filling up with those prices.....lowest starting at $1400/month, and probably about 1 or 2 at that price.
These will rent. Their sister property, the Museum Tower, does very well and I have yet to see them run a special. There is always a market for a property as unique as this one.

I need a bit of help in regards to this place. My wife and I are looking to relocate back to Houston, probably by January of next year. We are interested in possibly living here, but we cannot find any recent photos. Could someone please take a few shots of the exterior? The last photos I have seen are back form May.

No, I imagine that it is ivy that is shown, not paint.

Hotel across from Poison Girl???
What is that about and where?

Guys, with all due respect, let me end this debate right now on what Gotham, Metropolis, etc. is or isn't supposed to be:
1) Gotham is NOT Chicago. Christopher Nolan chose to film both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight there because he loved the city and the architecture. Neither the comics, nor the "canon" make any claim to Chicago. It is fair to say that the Gotham of the comic books was inspired by New York, but it is not NY either.
2) Metropolis is NOT NY, although the limitations of 1970's movie making required that they film Superman in a real city--hence New York.
3) Spidey exisits in NY, the real NY.

I miss Black Eyed Peas. Now I have to drive to the suburbs for these type of restaurants. At least, they opened a Chili's in Sawyer Heights (I-10/Sawyer).
With all the fantastic, unique restaurants at every price level inside the loop, why would you want to eat at a Chili's??!?
-
I've driven by it numerous times, and I have to tell you that it is not a place that you want to slow down and look suspicious taking photos. There is a sizable guard house, not just a small two-man shed but a security building this is quite visible on the street. It is big and palatial, but knowing that the money behind it comes from kitchy theme restaurants kinda dulls the luster.

I may be the exception, but I think the version shown in the original rendering exhibits an unheard-of level of suckitude! The blue "fanfare" or whatever it purports to be is absolutely horrendous. It reminds me of everything that is bad with the Marq-E center. I would prefer the attempted industrial design of the current rendering anyday.

Does the water wall fountain actually do anything fancy? I thought it was supposed to either have images projected on it, or it would have patterns in the stream.
-
The article on Swamplot is hilarious. The idea of the Greek Titans coming down to use the "urinals" outside of the Cosmo is priceless.
Actually, though, these fountains look an awful lot like something Randall bought at Hobby Lobby. I half expect to see an extension cord running along side and plugged into an outlet to pump a little bit of water.

I squashed a roach one time with my bare hand that was crawling along the wall. That is not the disgusting part.
The "innards" left over on the wall were BLUE in color. I don't know if the roach had ingested something weird, but I was truly creeped out.

I find it funny how these city center concepts promote the live/work concept. Like the 18 year old juicer at Jamba Juice is going to go home to their $800K townhouse...
-
At 850 sq-ft, they are obviously targeting the much needed "realistic and affordable" range that places like Midtown Square and the Ventana do not. This is going to be great to bring in some foot traffic to that area. I like the idea of artist live-work spaces.

My check came in the mail to my US address. I'm going to do the patriotic thing and spend it on vacation in another country!

I am a bit skeptical that this, in fact, is the final design. Where are the balconies that Houstonians demand (and then don't actually use)? How can you open your windows?
I'm being sarcastic, but it does strike me a bit odd in Houston for a high rise with no outdoor element. The Four Leaf Towers down the street is an exception.

I wouldn't fret too much for most of the employees. The engineers and geoscientists at Anadarko (and everywhere else for that matter) have been barraged by headhunters. While maybe not the most fun activity, finding a job should not be difficult.
Accounting/finance is still strong in Houston as well. I'm not well-informed about the IT market however.
I work for an oil field services company, and our CEO highlighted how there is a serious lack of experienced Geoscientists and Petroleum Engineers in the industry as a whole. Those at Anadarko who are laid off should have no trouble at all in finding a good job.

The Office Depot strip center that you took the above picture NEEDS to be the next to go. I know they are supposed to be reskinning the shopping center cat-corner to this one, but it is a shame to have such a great development just north of this degrade into something more befitting of Richmond and Dunvale.

I cannot believe that the designers of this condo thought it would be a good idea to place the Edge name (in its especially ugly type face) right smack dab at the top of the building. It makes the building look more like an office complex than a residential building.
-
Is it trapazoid shaped? And maybe I'm the only one who hasn't noticed yet, but it looks like the top ornamental part is only on the front.
No, it is not. At first glance I thought the same thing, but all the lines converge at the same vanishing point as the road. It is just a strong visual perspective that gives it that look.

There is a saying that "best" can be the enemy of "better". Sometimes focusing on trying to get the best possible outcome can delay getting anything done at all, when merely a "better" option could have been implemented sooner if not immediately. I am in the camp that is glad that HP is there in the reduced form that it is today rather than not having something for another 10 years or so. Both HP and DG are serving as catalysts to surrounding development, and they are anchoring the two ends of a new hotbed of activity.

I don't understand the topper of this building. Are those columns? We need a better rendering than just the front... for all we know, a massive statue of Chuck Norris could be on the other side...
Man, I almost blew my coffee through my nose when I read your comment on Chuck!
I agree that it does not look as if the top ornamentation actually extends the full breadth of the top of the building. Maybe we are going to have another Memorial Herman "off center crown debate".

I can't see the offending encroachment in the rendering unless they are talking about the little outdoor patio in the top right (where the former Black-Eyed Pea was). Really, this seems to be much ado about nothing. On the plus side, the top rendering looks much better than the previously proposed one.
