I am excited for Williams to not stick out so much. This won't be as tall but will compliment it well.

I actually feel the opposite.  Part of the charm of Transco (will NEVER call it Williams) was that it stood out like a lighthouse.  In a way, it's why the Burj Khalifa looks so impressive in how it dominates the area with everything else looking up towards it.

I just happened to be walking by cutting back over from the Bayou. Didn’t set out to photograph anything from this angle intentionally. Sorry.

On the contrary, I hope you don't take my comment as anything you should apologize for!

I was merely waxing philosophically on something your photograph made me think, which is nice since most photographs of the skyline merely elicit a "ooh, so pretty" without much thought to follow.  Your's was thought provoking!

More signs of life y’all. The elevator shafts are going in!

There are good views of downtown Houston that really show off what downtown is and can be.

This angle is not one of them.

No offense meant for the photographer, but just a stark reminder that there are parts of downtown that need some development love beyond the high profile views by the bayou.  It really makes me think about boundaries that define the edge of the downtown district.  Whether they are man-made (Pierce elevated and 59) or natural (the bayou), how do you create a signature gateway for someone entering into the area?  Not every entrance can be as grand as approaching from Allen Parkway or Memorial Drive, but coming from the EastDo desperately needs something.

That project description makes it sound like they are just going to demolish the Sears building and pave the site over.

I'm putting my faith in the power of that semicolon:

"Demo of part of Memorial Cenity Mall and parking lot; then REDO of paving and draining"

I take this to menthe demoed part of the mall will not be repaved, but the parking lot area may be reconfigured around it.

Would love for you to expand on the “undesirables” and the “low self-esteem” comments.

The arm-chair psychiatrist in me would imagine the "low self-esteem" description is aimed at those people who feel the need to buy expensive, luxury goods to demonstrate their self-worth to others.

The "undesirables" are clearly those people who have the same low self-esteem as those above, but lack the money to buy Cartier. Hence, they have no value in this world.

/s in case that wasn't obvious...

Given the potential to develop that land, Beck's Prime must be a front for the Navarro cartel as a money laundering operation...

Either that or I'm watching too much Ozarks on Netflix.

But wow, that 40 year lease must have been astronomical to offset the potential value increase.

  7. Caught this as a throw-away line in yesterday's Houston Chronicle story about Kenny and Ziggy's moving out of their location on Post Oak to the Luby's location further down the street:

"Kenny & Ziggy’s announced on Friday that it will move to the former Luby’s Cafeteria Post Oak space at 1743 Post Oak in early-to-mid-2021. Luby’s did not renew its lease, according to the release. The restaurant's decision to relocate is based on the planned demolition of the strip center at 2327 Post Oak Blvd. where it is currently located, according to the release."

This is the first I've heard of any plan for a new development on the corner of Westheimer and Post Oak.  Any details?

Great building, fits in better than I expected.

Yes, but it would have fit in SO MUCH BETTER with the previous white, art-deco design before they painted the rest of the shopping center that monstrosity of a beige color.  Geez, everywhere else, people are going the opposite direction and painting beige buildings white (see Uptown Park)!

#11. The Montrose neighborhood (aka a couple of big box stores/retail strip center/dress barn), blends into Regent Square's south edge. Love it. Love the fluff.

Kind of cool the additional high rises will be a bit closer to the Driscoll on W Clay. It will expand the cluster a bit. Shame the're not fronting Allen Parkway... but at least the hotel tower is.

Those Hotel views will be the best in town. East we have the Royalton, AIG, Wortham, and all the infill in between framing Downtown. It's also just south enough for the Thompson/Gillette to not obstruct. Views to west/southwest will also be money at Uptown, Upper Kirby, and Greenway Plaza. Directly south the rising Montrose, TMC & Museum District skylines. They're practically in the center of "town". Maybe they can sell the north facing rooms as park view lol.

Curious what brand will swoop in. If they get a rooftop pool I will book a room. Or even just a bar, can we get a rooftop bar here please?

There definitely is a lack of good rooftop bars in Houston.  I miss Scott Gerstner's Skybar before it was torn down.

  10. I would take a page from the renovations done at Uptown Park.  I'm really impressed with how they took what was once a very suburban shopping center with way too much parking and created these walkable, terraced barriers that nicely segregate the area.  It's still not as ideal as what could be done with a brand new construction, but it's a good case study in how to use what you've got.  I also like the repainting to whites and grays.  If they did something like that in Highland Village, I think it would go a long way to making the area more cohesive and walkable.

Forgive me for living under a rock, but did I read that right? Are they demolishing a building that was JUST BUILT in September last year?

I thought that the area with the red circle around it was the western edge of the lot and would avoid taking down any of the buildings to the right.

I believe those units are owned by the housing authority. Not sure if you’ll see many improvements for a while.

This photo surprises me as I always believed that these. units were at capacity.  They are supposed to be "mixed income" housing (i.e. market rate for those who make enough and partially subsidized for those who don't meet an income threshold.  The boarded up and broken windows are definitely concerning!
