  1. Forgive me for living under a rock, but I'm assuming the demolition of Clayton homes is to allow for the realignment of 59?  It's not necessarily going to host other residential or commercial (at least in the near term)?

I hope these residents love them some Beck's Prime because from the Kirby view it looks to be part of the development haha!

How in the world can Beck's Prime sell enough burgers and prime rib to cover the increasing cost of that land?  I have to imagine they are sitting and waiting it out until the price is right (ala Bed Bath and Beyond next door).

  3. That second picture looks as if it is a library (pretty sure it's not), but it made me think that a library would do better here than its location on the north-east side of Downtown.  I see more pedestrian traffic with residential nearby, and it's location off the light rail would make it ideal.

Montrose is really shaping into what I thought it would become. Now they just need to rework Montrose Blvd. with new sidewalks and lighting and landscaping. Re engineer the lanes and perhaps bring back the median for landscaping or even a trolley that would run from the park to Washington Ave.

I've always thought that Montrose should become our Champ Elysees. Lined with high rise and mid rise residential towers, and make Montrose Blvd. the Museum blvd. with sculpture more water features and a large round about at Westheimer. The arts would be featured the entire route from Hermann Park to Buffalo Bayou.

I think Post Oak is aspiring for the title of our "Champ Elysees", but you're right about Montrose shaping up to be something special.  I just wish something bold and exciting could be done at the intersection of Westheimer and Montrose.  Is that corner cursed to always have mattress stores and an urgent care clinic?  So much potential, but unlikely to be realized in my lifetime.

  5. Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I am surprised at how close it is to the adjacent building (Hogg).  If those windows are residential units (as opposed to say, an interior hallway, the value of those units has to be pretty much destroyed as they will be looking straight into what I imagine is a parking garage!

  6. I find myself more excited about the potential “Boulevard” being created along Kirby than I am about Post Oak. While I love where PO is going with some of their developments, there are some key shopping centers like the Centre at post Oak (one with. Nordstrom’s Rack) and Post Oak Plaza (one with California Pizza kitchen) that I think are so entrenched that they will not be going anywhere for years. Kirby, on the other hand, looks more promising as even their shopping centers around the Richmond intersection are old and are more likely to be redeveloped, making the street more uninform in its density. Of course, south of 59 is a whole other story...

  7. I suspect BB&B as a company are not long for this world.

While I’ve relied on that store when I lived in the area, it is such a BAD design. With its front facing Alabama, it turns its ugly, featureless side and parking lot towards Kirby. I’m ready for it to go. Besides, people have Amazon 😉

  8. We are looking to buy a house in the next month or so, and I've noticed that many of the new homes are putting in 1'x1' tiles not only in the kitchens or bathrooms, but in the living rooms or den as well. I understand that they are low maintenance, but I am not a fan of the way they look. I can try to cover them over with area rugs, but my preference is wood flooring.

So now for my question to all the DIY'ers (amateur and professional)...

How difficult is it to remove the existing tile (it's practically new!) and have a surface ready for installation of something else like wood?

I know it seems to be a waste to buy a home with a new floor, only to tear it up immediately, but your comments on the ease or difficulty will influence our decision in what we purchase. Here is an example of a house with it inside:
