  1. ^^^ OMG WOW!  what a brilliant illustration urbannizer.  is this really houston.....

Would love to bring some better street life to Post Oak with some CityCentre type development between Westheimer and the Uptown Park area (Ethan Allen/Grand Lux area, Container Store/Sports Authority area, Luby's/CPK area, Wells Fargo/Willie G's area, Fresh Market/Sovereign Bank/Randall's area and all the older apartment complexes lightly peppered throughout) mixed in with a few more towers. Uptown could potentially become a top destination in the world IMO if the retail/entertainment options are up to par.

No doubt that we need better transportation serving the area...with no structural street intervention.

  2. The part of 610 between Ella and 290 has had ongoing construction since at least 2009 (and I think 2008). I remember a buddy of mine moving to North Dakota in 2009, and then calling me in 2011 and asking if that area was still under construction...and when I said "yeah," I could practically see him over the phone shaking his head. It's still not even close to being finished.

The 610/I-10/290 interchange had its groundbreaking during the mega-drought in late July, 2011. The 290 to I-10 ramp was just completed a few months ago.

Traffic has been backed up to and from 45 just about every day for hours because of this crap...there is absolutely no legitimate reason why it should take this long to finish this project, and many others around town for that matter.

Sorry for derailing this thread...just wanted to clarify that.

  3. Would love to see somewhat of a sports theme near the ballpark. Some of the renderings of the Marriott Marquis showcased a place named "Draft Pick," and I have to say...if the final product looks anything like those renderings, that place looks like it could be a great spot to hold the NFL Draft here if it indeed moves from city to city. And of course when that's not happening, it still looks like it could be an excellent spot to watch all kinds of sports. Could really add even more character to the area...

  4. That sounds more like an acid or 'shroom reaction. Stoners are everywhere...I guess now it's "official" that I haven't been the only one on here late at night nursing some doobage before sporting a hefty bowl of Kellogg's Corn Pops.

  5. I didn't even think about the Aqua Tower in Chicago "as per" my qualifications for labeling 2929 an iconic building. Maybe for Houston or some of its visitors (who don't know about the Aqua Tower) it could be, but you're both right...kinda hard to truly label 2929 as an icon when it has Aqua written all over it (although I think 2929 looks less tacky and much better overall). I have to agree that there have been no truly iconic buildings in this boom to date, but several very nice ones. I'd really like to see a few more landmark towers with pointed tops and/or antennas in Houston.

The Southwestern Energy HQ has been a pleasant surprise, no doubt.
