I knew this was coming at some point. What a disappointment for the area. A tiny little plaza and big ass parking lot. 90 percent of south Downtown is already parking. This along with the old Incarnate Word building are two pieces that will be missed.

I didn't even see the sign coming east on Fairview while I was riding my bike. I'm sure drivers aren't much better. The city needs to clean this block up.

I hope Milam is a candidate for a road diet at some point. It would make walking to this shopping center much more pleasant.

This is great news! Seeing an actual start date is so nice.

Damn, glad nobody was seriously hurt but that ending about gun shots and live ammunition is strange.

Is this thing building ever going to start again? I just passed it last night on the bus.

At least Google seems to finally be upgrading Houston streetview.
Also when can we expect to start getting more of this infrastructure outside of the loop?
I think there are a few projects Westchase is trying to get going and there are some new initiatives the city is working on for Gulfton, but honestly it might take a while to see serious change outside the Loop. The city always works from the core outward.

I’m not offended and I wasn’t calling you out specifically. I’m a proponent for open dialogue and there are always multiple points of view. A dialogue is more productive when we don’t demonize. Based on my observations many of the people who comment on these forums don’t live downtown (the only true “urban“ environment in Houston) and they are not car-less or mass transit users either. Again, I realize this doesn’t apply to you (or Cuevas and a few others)!
I haven’t made it to Post Houston yet but I’m anxious to visit when time allows.
I don't agree that downtown is the ONLY urban part of Houston. There are many urban neighborhoods in this city that are only getting more urban with time, but I do understand your point. On my walks through Upper Kirby on any regular day of the work week, you can def tell who lives in inner city Houston and who doesn't.

That land is worth $200m+. They could easily sell it to a developer and require the developer to include a brand new 400 unit affordable housing tower as part of the master planned development. More affordable units that are brand new would be a positive outcome.
Looks like a facelift is in the works. @bookey23posted this

Also, if that’s the case, they need to do something about the Astrodome before the World Cup. Can’t have an empty vacant condemned building next to a World Cup venue. What impression would that leave on our foreign visitors?
That building should have at the very least been pressure washed by now

Notably, after the city hosts the World Cup in 2026
Id guess that may have something to do with it. Can’t have the city be a mess of construction for a globally showcase event like that.
If that's the case they need to rebuild the sidewalks along Chartres. That whole area is a mess already.

So there's also a proposal to build a deck park on i45 and N Main? *chef kisses*
Honestly, I only see pros with this project. They plan to expand biking/ trial access and beautify the adjacent areas of the highway!
I may have missed this but I don't see this on the website or on the document. I wish they could get this thing rolling already!
I've been on the fence about this project for a while. I do see the good in it though, but a start date of 2027 is a headache.

This is beyond stupid. The fact people can't just park a block or two away and walk it ridiculous.

I mean sure believe what you want I guess. Its not like I ever worked on projects in Houston or anything, or heard clients complain about it, or contractors, or architects, or designers. Yeah totally not the worst or strictest. I mean what do I know. Its not like I work in Architecture or anything...
I wish they would remove parking minimums for anything inside the Loop. Anything between the Loop and Beltway can continue with parking minimums but also have flexibility to opt in to TOD or WP.

Sounds like it was? The article refers to it as a hit and run several times. They haven't charged him yet, but one has to assume they will.
Yeah the article makes it clear but the police for some reason had a hard time coming to the same conclusion. But yeah you're right, they'll be charged eventually. I'm just super sensitive on the subject after seeing people I know get seriously hurt or killed. The kid in Waller got 6 felonies for his stunt. I have yet to hear anything about the little boy who died riding his bike in his neighborhood. The last I heard, the lady that was driving admitted to being distracted by a sandwich she was eating.

Rode my bike last night and as I was about to hop on the bike lane on Commonwealth, I noticed 3 cars parked right on the lane. I reported all 3 of them but damn how did they not know they were all in a bike lane? I wanted to ride by today to make sure nothing was damaged

What a great way to make the area more walkable

The owners realize what they have is special to the neighborhood. Very smart move on their part.

Does anyone know if Service St is going to get any work done to it? It’s such an eyesore pulling in to the farmers market

From Hardy Yards to East River that's like 12 residential buildings less than a mile from each other, not including the two going up on the north side of MMP.

I've been walking from the Y downtown to my place in UK and Houston is getting walkable af. This is just another piece to the puzzle along with Montrose getting some love finally.

Lower Westheimer Road Construction
in Traffic and Transportation

Wait so I thought the "improvements" were happening soon and coordinated with Metro for their BOOST corridors? Is this just the long term plan for reconstruction or the same thing? Summer 2024 not including construction seems a ways off.
