  1. Houston does have a few good places other than the places mentioned, which I like as well. -Mid Century Modern is on Westheimer near Hazard. They have authentic mid century pieces like Le Corbusier, Eames, Mies, etc... BUT they have authentic mid century pricing too. Worth it in my opinion. -Roche Bobois has some nice stuff. From in-you-face modern to subtle modern. Most of their stuff is on the pricier side. San Felipe between 610 and Post Oak Blvd. -West Elm is new to Houston. They are a spin off of Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn, but with a moden edge. This place has really great prices. Westheimer in Highland Village, www.westelm.com -My personal favorite is not in Houston, however I love everything they have. It is a store called Room & Board. They have Hermann Miller copies of all of the prominent early and mid century designers and new designs as well. I could devote a day to looking at their chairs, sofas, and lamps! www.roomandboard.com -Don't laugh...but Target (soon). Thomas O'Brien, a big name in New York's SoHo, has a new line coming out in October called Vintage Modern. Really cool stuff, extremely affordable and definately better than Ikea.
  2. Is a door really that important? It cracks me up to see how many people are appalled by not having a bedroom door. A door does not equal luxury. I have been in several friends $1,2,3 Million apartments in Manhattan that do not even have bedroom walls. JFK Jr. lived in a $2.5M loft without a bedroom door. I too live in a loft without a bedroom door. Some of my Houston friends think that it is a bit strange. It is a specific concept in housing that is not for everyone, but should be available. To some people features such as high ceilings, huge bathrooms, and great fixtures are more of a priority.
  3. LOL Lowbrow, I figured you might think this was funny, yes I do believe it is your condo. I just wondered if anyone else might know anything useful to her about the building or neighborhood. I noticed in the Museum District Forum you asked similar questions before purchasing the place. By the way, thanks for the info about the updates you have made. I'm sure she will be checking this place out soon.
  4. Is anyone familiar with the Camp Logan area? I am wondering about the possibility of finding townhomes for around 200K in that area. Is this possible? Mostly what I have found is about 300k and up. There are some great looking properties in that area, though.
  5. I have a close friend searching for a townhome/condo. She is wanting a more established neighborhood, such as Monrose, West U, Museum District. We are interested in a property at 4004 Montrose, The Court at Museums Gate. Does anyone know anything about the building? What about neighborhood trends as far as appreciation/depreciation? I think that the place is pretty nice and the location is nearly unbeatable. We have, however, found new construction for about the same price ($174,900) in the Museum District as well as Rice Military.
  6. So, Lowbrow, how much work have you had to do? How much work is left to be done? I actually have a friend who is looking for places and I noticed that your place is on her list! She is a single woman in her early/mid 20's. For the same price as your place she has several new construction homes, so that is why we are considering how much work she will need to do. We have a friend who lives @ 4004 Montrose and loves it.
  7. Any word on the progress of the renovation of the old Jefferson Davis Hospital? I know there have been previous posts on this topic. I drove by the other day at night it looked like there were some units that were almost done. I know many people are skeptical about this building, but I am very interested!
  8. I am new to this forum. I recently found out about a new loft development called Live Oak Lofts, located east of hwy 59 off of Polk. Has anyone seen or heard anything about them? I am not even sure if the renovations are finished. They seem relatively affordable, but this could be because of the east side location. From the photos they seem like this will be a pretty nice place!
  9. This place is really nice. It is very resort like, with one of the most amazing pools you will ever see at a lease community. Units are pretty nice, with crown moldings. They are not really my style (I prefer the clean lines and loft like spaces). They sort of feel like a nicer suburban house more than an apartment. I have three different friends who live in different floorplans. There have recently been a couple of incidents with intruders, but from what I understand nothing too terrible.
