  1. Don't agree about the urban neighborhoods, just because they are not built in the same fashion, but to commemorate the second page of this nonsense hear are some pics. An area that is in Palstic's "grid" And a real grid (midtown)
  2. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/08/30/katr...eans/index.html Look at tension rising. I don't know if it was an accident or intentional, but it sounds intentional. I don't know what drove him to do it as most are in the same boat as him. But this is a sad time for the area of the gulf coast that got hit.
  3. You don't know what a grid pattern for streets is do you??? Again where do you live plastic? Just because four streets make a box doesn't mean it is a grid. Have you ever been Downtown or near downtown? Those are grids. What you described is a box full of curvy streets and cul-de-sacs.
  4. Would you feel the same though if she was stealing another families possesions out of their home? In times like this stealing food from an abandoned store to feed yourself and your family is reasonable. It is those who take advantage of a time of crisis for their own personal gain who should be looked down upon.
  5. "OK, so there are other threads here about this, fine." I am just saying why must every thread be about doom and gloom. Why can we not think back to happier times. And are you saying I am insensitive because I say I will miss historic buildings that have been destroyed? And when I try to defend citykid when he merely expresses his dislike of the city and you accuse him of saying they deserved this storm? This seems pretty rude jumping on people when they don't mention how they hope everyone in New Orleans got away or is ok. I have relatives in NO and the first thing I did when I heard about Katrina heading toward them was to call them and make sure they had a way to get out of the city. Just because someone doesn't express sympathy on an internet forum does not mean you need to attack them. "seems to be missing here is any "reminiscing" about the people affected here." How do you reminisce about a cities population? Also if anything you should be angry about how little coverage other cities have gotten on this forum. And all you have done is be hostile until your comment "My heart goes out to the residents of New Orleans, Louisiana." "Today it is getting worse. After 9/11 were you "reminiscing" about fond memories of downtown New York? I hope not." Yes I felt sympathy for those who lost their lives and for their families, but would it have been wrong to also think of how the world will never be the same. Perhaps you do not care about buildings as I do, but I do miss the twins. They were not the most beautiful buildings in the world, but it was awe inspiring to look straight up and see a wall stretching 1368 feet into the air. But yes my heart does go out to New Orleans citizens and it saddens me that this is all that we should talk of about this great American city.
  6. But how is it set up? It will show if they are trying to keep people in or out.
  7. Well this thread is. We already have five topics on New Orleans and Katrina. I am not saying we should not have sympathy, it is just that what is wrong with reminiscing about what could be lost. Also I don't think he was saying they got what they deserved. He was just saying he was never to fond of the city. I am sure that New Orleans will be rebuilt, but there are some things that can never be replaced so what is wrong with this?
  8. Not to mention they passed them in an estimate right? Not saying it is right or wrong, but estimates can many times be off the mark. We will just have to wait till 2010.
  9. What is so scary about history. Personally I am going to miss alot of the old buildings that were probably destroyed or completely flooded.
  10. Its not that they can't grow out, it is just the city cannot expand its borders. That does not force developers to build in inner dallas. Though they will still see more dense developments in the city.
  11. Was it the spool type of babrbed wire or was it strings (around 5) attached to poles coming out of the fence?
  12. Is it just me or are they constructing the facade from the top down?
  13. What was that all about. It didn't seem clear from their argument. Something about dogs and a glass of ice water?
  14. And that is something to strive for? Better than Brown... Please tell me you are not serious about running for mayor.
  15. Just wondering where do you live (plastic)? It seems the only way you could generazlize everything in the beltway as "Downtown" would be if you lived like 80 miles out. First saying we should have built a monorail (or better nothing at all) saying it wouldn't have affected streets , now this BTW for those curious Rover Oaks is a dog boarding place slightly west of astroworld.
  16. You have to be kidding me, "one of the most grotesque pieces of architecture ever built anywhere". I mean it wasn't the prettiest building in the world, but I kind of liked it. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I have to admit though I am not a fan of alot of Wright's work. There is some I like though.
  17. Does anyone know if the building in the fourth pic is for sale?
  18. So you want us to have a crappy downtown like LA. I would make a lengthy post, but I don't have the time now. Also why for inner areas that need to be revitalized you list pretty much only gentrified areas. What kind of revitalization does River Oaks need???
  19. I really hope it isn't that bad, but it isn't looking promising. Oops, I don't know what I did but I double posted.
  20. If anyone cares on channel 16 (TWC) I believe they are talking to the city council about Pavillions.
  21. It does mention it, but only a short blurb. Does anyone have any other info on it. Not that I plan on watching it.
  22. Some people on this forum really need to do some research on what zoning is. They act as if it would be a godsend. Just look at our neighbours to the north, and see the differences between us and them. Not too many ehh.
