dbigtex56
Interesting that a spur projects and dead-ends from the Tuam section to the "Superblock".

dbigtex56
I wonder why the measurements for storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water lines, and sidewalks are given in linear feet, but new pavement is listed as a fraction of a mile. Why not just round it to 4600 feet and be done with it?
hindesky
Up for Bid, $33,950,000. Price appears to have gone down. It's going to be a huge mess for those who live on those streets. Hopefully it moves faster than the downtown link it will eventually connect to.
j_cuevas713
So does anyone know if Emancipation Ave reconstruction will coincide with the water line downtown? I’m trying to find info on when Emancipation will start because that street is in dire need of improvements.

hindesky
Attended the online Teams presentation. They decided to do the 2 green colored areas first due to the Annunciation Orthodox school is out for the summer and some mysterious parades on Fannin St. Most of it will be open cut but under major streets like Spur 27, Smith St., Montrose, Yoakum, Louisiana, Elgin, Travis and Main St. it will be tunnel. Not sure I've ever heard of a parade on this portion of Midtown.

hindesky
Went by to talk with a crew member since work has started close to where I live. He is the inspector overseeing the project. He said they started here at Kipling St., Audubon St. and Holman St. since the Greek Annunciation School has already started up. They had planned to start by the school but changed plans due to a late start of the project. They have had a tree trimming company trim some of the trees that the heavy equipment could hit. There are construction barrels all along the street and construction netting around some of the trees. He admitted it is going to be a big mess for those who live along those streets since it will be open cut trenching. Those are some beautiful trees, and I hope they hire someone whose approach is more a tree surgeon and less like a butcher. CenterPoint (and previously HL&P) is notorious for using unskilled workers who take town limbs helter-skelter.
hindesky
They used Trees Llc. which I see around all the Houston area. I think Centerpoint also uses them on a lot of their projects. I talked with the city engineer yesterday and he said they got an arborist to identify which limbs should be cut.

hindesky
Looks like the section of Kipling St. between Audubon Blvd and Stanford St are done adding the pipe. Hopefully they pave it soon. It's supposed to be concrete and not asphalt. They are working on the section between Stanford and Roseland working their way to Montrose Blvd. where they will tunnel under that road.

hindesky
According to the job inspector I talked with this water is going to the water storage tanks at Westpark and Newcastle. He said it doesn't feed the neighborhood directly but they do have to cut service occasionally because the local piping feeding the neighborhood is sometimes in the way of installing the 72" pipe.

That makes sense, since most neighborhoods are supplied by 8 inch mains. 72 inch mains do not make sense at all for local distribution.
