  1. Earlier this year, the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court approved development of a new multi-purpose venue in Rosenberg. Dubbed the EpiCenter (due to it's location at the at/near the center of the County) for now, it would be constructed on the south side of the Southwest Freeway between Bamore Road and Fairgrounds Road, near the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds. Some of the residents in the adjacent Cottonwood subdivision have expressed concern about building such a venue and the impact it may have on drainage, traffic and infrastructure among other things. The city is expected to sign off on the final plat in the near future, with construction to begin soon after - and complete by the 4th quarter of 2022. Here are some renderings from the press release from the county. Video from Fort Bend County Fort Bend EpiCenter Project - YouTube
  2. This is a $1.5B 2,000 acre mixed use development at the intersection of GP & FM 1464: http://www.globest.com/news/908_908/houston/160716-1.html
  3. Has anyone driven this yet? I would imagine this will greatly improve the lives of people in the area between 59 and 288. This seemed to built fairly quickly. How does it tie into the beltway? Is there a ramp? Just wondering.

  5. NewQuest Readies Plans For Mo. City Shopping Center Houston developer NewQuest Properties is planning to build a new shopping center near State Highway 6 and the Fort Bend Parkway in Missouri City. Called Fort Bend Town Center, the project would be built in two phases. Phase one includes about 40 acres at the southwest corner of Highway 6 and the parkway. This phase is planned as a 160,000- square-foot retail center with a grocery store as an anchor. Phase 2, at the southeast corner of the intersection, would be about 400,000 square feet. The rest of the story can be found here.
  6. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w208/houtosme/MethodistSugarLand_zpse6b357dd.jpg http://www.fbherald.com/health/article_c0dac28a-47ef-11e3-9733-0019bb2963f4.html Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital has begun a five-project, $131 million expansion that includes its first development in Missouri City. Groundbreakings will take place between now and summer 2014 on the projects. “Fort Bend continues to grow in size and population and our patients are seeking an ever broader range of sophisticated medical and surgical treatments close to home,” said Dr. Marc L. Boom, Houston Methodist CEO. The expansion kicks off in November with groundbreaking on a 9,600-square-foot emergency care center on SH 6 in Missouri City between the Sienna Plantation and Riverstone communities. The facility is scheduled to open in summer 2014 and will house 10 treatment rooms and the latest technology in diagnostic imaging equipment. A new patient tower will be added between the Sweetwater Pavilion and Main Pavilion on the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital campus, adding 104 beds. The tower will add intensive care beds and medical-surgical beds with space remaining for future expansion. Groundbreaking will take place in the summer of 2014 with completion in 2016. The hospital is also building a facility for Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. The practice will move to a new 60,000-square-foot building on the corner of U.S. 59 and Sweetwater Boulevard.
  7. The speed at which Fulshear has grown, particularly in the past decade, has led the community to work on developing a transit feasibility study. Fort Bend County page w/ comprehensive outline of the findings: https://www.fortbendcountytx.gov/government/departments/public-transportation/fulshear-transit-feasibility-study/overview-and-final-report Recent article https://communityimpact.com/houston/katy/transportation/2022/09/02/fulshear-transit-study-results-to-guide-next-steps-in-citys-mobility/ Because I'm too lazy to summarize the finer points, here's a graphic from the article.
  8. Per Bisnow, this memorial was recently dedicated in Memorial Park in Sugar Land. Haven't heard of using tilt-wall for this sort of construction before. More on the design and planning can be found here.
  9. How do they plan to squeeze a freeway into the right away on South Post Oak (between Bellfort and Willowbend Blvd)??? I've been trying to find some schematics because I'm curious as to how they will do it without tearing down every business along that route.
  10. Fort Bend County, an area of over 800,000 residents, currently has absolutely abysmal public transportation. They have no connections to METRO transit centers or park and rides such as at Grand Parkway, Mission Bend, West Bellfort or Missouri City, no fixed route local service in the Sugar Land/Missouri City/Stafford area, nor in the rest of the county besides three unintelligibly convoluted, unusably infrequent "Fixed Deviation" routes in the Richmond/Rosenberg that only run on weekdays. The Park and Ride service leaves anything to be desired, with poor frequency, no midday or later evening service, a short departure window, very few actual park and rides, and services running to some random place in Greenway and the VA Hospital, not at all connecting with proper METRO services. Perhaps worst of all is their "Demand Response" service. Call them at least a day in advance from when you want to go, and you'll be sent to a call center in India to place a reservation for a bus, Which may or may not show up at your house at the scheduled time to take you to your destination, Which cannot be outside of a specific area, cannot be used to transfer to METRO, and can be no earlier than 8AM, No later than 5PM, Monday-Friday Only. Transit in Fort Bend in it's current form is unacceptable, and would not be adequate for a county of 8,000, let alone one a rapidly growing county of 800,000 in one of the largest metropolitan areas in America. As METRO focuses on expanding it's current transit network, Fort Bend desperately needs to focus on having some sort of usable transit at all, that is able to connect with METRO, otherwise, traffic will only continue to grow worse in Fort Bend County, and the entire Houston region as a result.
  11. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com reported that after 1 year and a 1/2, TV reporter Amanda Perez is leaving KPRC-TV NBC 2 Houston for the world of education. "I'll soon be working for Fort Bend ISD as the district's media relations coordinator," Perez told mikemcguff.com. "It's hard to say goodbye to all the amazing folks at Local 2, but I'm ready for a new challenge." http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/09/amanda-perez-leaves-kprc-2-for-fort-bend-isd.html?m=1 Reaction from anyone on Perez leaving the Houston NBC affiliate?
  12. From chron.com Gallery Furniture, well known for its flagship site on the North Freeway, is planning to build a bigger store in Richmond. Groundbreaking on the property, next to the Santikos Palladium Theatres on the Grand Parkway, will take place sometime between now and the end of April, owner Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale said. http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/fortbend/business/article/Mattress-Mack-plans-over-the-top-Fort-Bend-5354158.php?cmpid=hpts#photo-6081614
  13. I received a newsletter in the mail today from Fort Bend County Commissioner's office regarding the Nov 5th vote for the Mobility Bond Proposition. Included is a map with various road projects and I noticed a "Future Sam's Club" shown at Bellaire and Grand Pkwy on the east side of the intersection. Does anyone have additional info on this Sam's Club and how realistic it is? I'll try to scan and post my map tomorrow
  14. Where do you all see the future of Fort Bend County ? Our population has reach 627,293 and is growing more and more everyday with no signs of stopping. I live in Sugar Land and I can definitely see the growth. If we were a city we would be the 7th largest city in Texas, just after El Paso ! I'm starting to wonder if Fort Bend is going to have to start thinking like a big city rather than a suburban area. For example, with transportation, Hwy 59 (I-69) is always backed-up and needs relief. Highway 6 is a nightmare, Highway 90 is starting to get crazy. Thankfully the Grand Parkway is being built out to 59. Maybe turn highway 90 into a tollroad, connect the Fort Bend Tollroad to South Post Oak in Houston, Commuter rail that reaches all the way to Richmond and Rosenberg, and maybe turn the Fort Bend Transit System into a full bus service system. Thats just one area of concern. I even see the day when the Sugar Land Airport turns into Houston's third major airport. It's just a Regional airport now but flights are constantly coming one right after another, even at night. It's the busiest small airport I ever seen. What do you guys think in other areas as well like education, real estate, economic development, crime, health care, etc. All these issue are coming up fast in this county and we have to find some answers soon.
  15. "The County is currently discussing the extension of Westpark Tollway west from the Grand Parkway to intersect with Interstate 10 west of Katy. No schedule has been discussed for this extension." http://www.westhouston.org/toll_roads.htm
  16. Just wanted to ask people around Fort Bend County if you have ever rode on the Fort Bend Transit buses and what was your experience. Seems to me they are becoming more and more popular. There are already plans to put permanent park and ride facilities in Missouri City and Rosenberg. I think it's cool to have public transportation in Fort Bend. It's the second largest pop county in the area. The 2010 census for the county was at 585,375 and it's growing more every year, which is basically the size of Portland, Ore. We have to have alternative ways of getting around the area. The traffic, especially in Sugar Land is getting ridiculous What's your take on it. ?
  17. Anyone know what is going to be built on the Southeast corner of I-10 and Katy Ft. Bend Road? This property has been cleared a few times over the past couple of years but looks like some work is finally to really be done there.
  18. I am of the impression 1/2 of the homemade signs in all of Fort Bend County are located on the corner of I-10 and the Grand Parkway. It has quickly become quite the eyesore. The classics include advertising poop removal on full sheets of plywood. I believe we need stricter code enforcement and soon.
  19. Got my new tax appraisal today.......while the rest of the country's home values are dropping, mine went up. 5 year old house up in value by $6,000. I live in Parkway Lakes. I guess I shouldn't complain as I see only 1 or 2 empty houses in the neighborhood..........

  21. Does anyone have any idea about plans for the land cleared at the corner of Katy Fort Bend Rd and Roesner (South of Katy Fort Bend and West of Roesner)? The Texas Land & Dev. Co. sale sign is still posted, but trees and paths have been cleared. I hope it is not another apartment project.
  22. Construction began yesterday on one of the commercial reserves in front of Long Meadow Farms (Long Meadow Farms Parkway at Grand Parkway). Anyone know what this is? No signs as of yet, but they're serious because a porta-potty has been delivered to the site Anyone know what this is?
  23. A long time ago there was discussion about a new FBISD high school in Telfair. I thought that idea was discarded, but someone recently told me that it will happen. Does anyone know for sure and if so, what is the time frame?
