  1. Looked everywhere for this one. There was one mention in the Camp Strake thread. Its massive enough to have its own mega thread, but way to far out to be in "Going Up". Since we don't have a dedicated Woodlands, Spring, and Anything Further Out subforum, I'll be posting this here. Originally conceived in 2015 this one has taken awhile to get going (possibly due to Harvey), but have already started on phase 1 which is mostly low-rise residential and big box stores, which is something we don't touch on this forum. Its the "Urban Living", "Town Center" and "Business Center" that would get our attention. For info on phase 1 developments there is an article in HBJ: https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2014/08/camp-strake-property-to-include-750k-square-feet.html Now for the real meat of the project. Developer: Johnson Development Corp Architect: Johnson Development Corp (Johnson Development Corp originally did The Woodlands, and currently are working on Bridgeland near Cypress) Estimated Completion: (Unknown) This is originally land that belong to Camp Strake. I'll let y'all decide. I'm fine leaving it here for the above reasons.
  2. I noticed that there was a mult-story steel framed building going up in downtown Conroe the other day, and didn't see anything about it posted on HAIF. Not a huge project or anything but very interesting to see a "urban" type of construction happening in the old part of Conroe. I always thought it would be cool if downtown Conroe grew. Woodforest Bank tore down its small branch in old downtown Conroe and is replacing it with a larger 3-story office block as pictured below: Article from courier/your conroe news: Woodforest Bank building a downtown Conroe landmark of the past, beacon for the future Rendering of the planned building, courtesy of the CEDC website article: Downtown Conroe Prepared for Major Growth

The existing La Toretta Resort on Lake Conroe is being renovated to become Texas' first Margaritaville Resort: https://www.chron.com/neighborhood/conroe/news/article/New-Margaritaville-Resort-planned-for-Lake-Conroe-13744316.php https://blog.margaritaville.com/2019/04/margaritaville-resort-houston/
  4. French Quarter Plans $100M for Resort Redo By Amy Wolff Sorter 600 Del Lago Blvd.LAKE CONROE, TX-A 174-acre vacant resort will have a second life with help from its new owner, Atlanta-based French Quarter Group. The buyer plans to invest more than $100 million into the Del Lago Resort & Conference Center, its first property in Texas. http://www.globest.com/news/938_938/houston/161872-1.html
  5. Houston area to get a new commercial airport? Whoa! Now this would be interesting. What airlines would service this? Southwest maybe? https://m.chron.com/neighborhood/moco/news/article/Conroe-North-Houston-Regional-Airport-could-add-13637260.php
  6. http://goo.gl/jgDYUT Whether you love or hate the design, at least they attempted to build something visually interesting.
  7. Signed on in 1998, and has been owned by Charles Dowen Johnson and Joel Osteen, amongst others. Once known for it's endless reruns of In The Heat Of The Night, Frazier, and Matlock, it became Mega TV in 2011 when Spanish Broadcasting Systems purchased Channel 55 from USFR. http://www.spanishbroadcasting.com/SPANISH-BROADCASTING-ANNOUNCES-PARTICIPATION-IN-FCCS-TELEVISION-SPECTRUM-INCENTIVE-AUCTION-WITH-MIAMI-AND-HOUSTON-TELEVISION-STATIONS.pdf Blue Dogs, you might want to drop ol' Mike a line. I'm certain he'll want to blog about this development.
  8. Was wandering through the Conroe Industrial park (west side of the airport) and stumbled across this lonely development. Could not find a sign naming the park, other than the ring road was Deison Park Blvd and found a “Constellation Plaza” plaque. There is no official parking lot but found a gravel area on the northeast side of the Deison loop. Was very beautiful and high-tech, even the drainage grates were done artistically. However the park was almost creepy having an abandoned feel. The planting beds were not maintained, but the fountains were on and most of the grass was mowed. Location on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/fz7QCh Found this new report: http://goo.gl/tOXEa1 that lists the actual cost of $14.5 million.
  9. Per HBJ: 118 acres in between Camp Strake and the new Hughes property near Conroe. First project is a 350-unit multifamily developed by Buckhead Investment Partners, but there could also be 3 hotels, office and retail. HBJ encrypts their photos, so the best that can be done is a link to the site plan. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2014/10/exclusive-huge-mixed-use-project-slated-for-prime.html http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2014/10/exclusive-huge-mixed-use-project-slated-for-prime.html?s=image_gallery And the city marches northward.
  10. Heard on the news last night that Lake Conroe was back to its original capacity (maybe 6 in. lower than the best points), and that the lake's now normal heights (first time in four years) would bring in more traffic for a boost to the local economy. I'm pretty happy at that.
  11. Check out the http://www.galaxyfbo.com for a cool time lapse video of how our 45,000 sq.ft. 3 story building (with Black Walnut Café on the third floor over looking at the Runway 14-32) and two identical 50,000 sq.ft. hangars were built. Galaxy FBO is a fixed based operator based at the Lone Star Executive Airport (CXO), which is a reliever airport for the George Bush - Intercontinental (IAH) and the Houston Airport system; serving The Woodlands and North Houston. The video captured construction progress between January 2013 and September 2013, the facility was opened January 22, 2014. Several GoPro cameras recorded over 800,000 frames (24/7) for this video.
  12. Was looking for an interesting yet affordable place to move near Lake Conroe and toured Harbor Town this weekend. Looks very promising. Anyone who knows anyone who knows anyone who knows anyone that lives there? Would like the inside scoop from a resident on how the place really is.
  13. While waiting for my wife at the Mall on Teas Nursery I saw a vacant office building just to the east. It looked like interesting architecture, had a really nice site. There is no signage, however they are building a new roadway to building. Curious of its history. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Conroe,+TX&hl=en&ll=30.345891,-95.477991&spn=0.002632,0.00468&sll=31.168934,-100.076842&sspn=15.088478,29.992676&oq=conroe&t=h&hnear=Conroe,+Montgomery,+Texas°=180&z=19&source=gplus-ogsb
  14. Was looking at the water level chart for Lake Conroe. Seems very odd how the level is maintained consistent at 198 feet. The heavy rain in early April briefly increased the level and quickly subsided back to 198 feet. http://conroe.uslakes.info/Level.asp Curious if the level is kept artificially low to enable the water plant construction, or to get the public used to the low levels when they draw surface water off for treatment. If we have another drought this summer the low lake level will have dire consequences.
  15. Does anyone know what is going in on the 50 acre tract at FM 1488/Old Conroe? They recently cleared this tract as well as the other 20 acre tract just to the west of it on FM 1488 as well. They were both for sale by Cypressbrook. Thanks!
  16. While in White Oak Ranch I noticed active construction located directly to the east. The area is adjacent to the east end of the Lake Conroe dam. There is no signage indicating what the project is, and I could not tell where the access road connected. Anyone have knowledge of the project?
  17. http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/magnolia/news/new-frac-sand-mining-operation-coming-to-montgomery-county/article_ae85ef30-2783-11e1-afad-0019bb2963f4.html#.TuzDTiGPpSs.email The mining site is very close to Carriage Hills, and Old Conroe Road has expensive subdivisions that the sand trucks will pass by. I'm waiting for the NIMBY force to protest the location.
  18. Does anyone know where on Lake Houston this is? County envisions community for vets Lake Houston's the site of 91-unit development that will take 4 years to build By MIKE SNYDER HOUSTON CHRONICLE April 23, 2009, 9:21PM In an unusual venture for a public housing agency, the Harris County Housing Authority has purchased a 91-acre site on Lake Houston where it plans to develop a veteran-themed community of homes, businesses and patriotic memorials the agency hopes will attract visitors. The $165 million project, known as Patriots by the Lake, is contingent on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs relocating offices and other facilities from the Texas Medical Center to the Lake Houston site, providing $9.2 million in annual lease payments that would help to finance the development. While a local VA official expressed enthusiasm about the plan, it can
  19. If you've ever been into Conroe via 105, at Porter Rd. (FM 1314) there's a strange spur that crosses across the intersection (link) and ends abruptly at a gate. A dusty plot remains in that area, but as of 1995 there was a full factory, or SOMETHING there. It strikes me as being strange because not only did it cross the intersection to begin with (and left hand turns are permitted) and the strange, fairly sharp angles, but it's still connected to the main line and the railroad crossings intact...as if a train would come occasionally. Does anyone know more about this spur?
  20. Thought y'all might be interested as the story unfolds here. K Brady's townhall in Conroe last night.
  21. We moved to Lake Conroe from Tomball last November and though I love our Vet in Tomball I'm not going 60 miles (round trip) just for a yearly routine exam and shots. Can anyone recommend a excellent Vet in the Montgomery/Conroe area? And I really dont mind going to The Woodlands. Thank you
  22. I didn't even know that until yesterday. They are pretty big hills, too. I was on League Line Road, going to see our possible new vacation home up there. I liked the wooded areas and hills. I wish all of Houston was like that.
  23. Hey, gang, I have a rather personal situation and I need your help. We were told on Wednesday, after a very long evaluation, that Phoebe is on the autism spectrum (non-verbal, but high-functioning, possibly even PDD-NOS). For those who do not know, we currently live in the Memorial area, in Spring Branch ISD, which has excellent programs for autistic or special needs students. Currently we are working with a speech therapist and an occupational therapist through ECI until she turns three. She will then be eligible for Pre-K. We are scheduled to move to The Woodlands July 5. I am a little paranoid since her diagnosis that we are doing the WRONG thing by moving...but that's only because I am rather ignorant about what CISD has to offer. According to CISD's site, we are zoned to David Elementary, which does not offer a Pre-K program for 3 & up, but we have been told Glen Loch has one and she would probably end up going to that. Can anyone give us a heads-up as to the quality of services of CISD for special needs students, specifically autistics? We've heard horror stories about Klein, great things about Katy, and as mentioned, great things about Spring Branch. Your opinions as parents mean a lot...thanks in advance!
