  1. I found a newspaper add for Meyer Bros. The White House store. I was browsing an old neighborhood newspaper called Southwestern Times. The issue is dated June 21, 1945. This is possible Store Number 9? HAIF had a listing of all the old Meyer Bros stores and number 9 was missing from the list. Please see below.
  2. I noticed we don't have a thread for the small retail strip center near 610 at Beechnut. Arc Three Studio has an office here. Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/4660-Beechnut-St-Houston-TX/11995478/
  3. I heard someone recently bought this building on Buffalo Bayou and is pushing for retail and food/drink establishments to move in. Does anyone have any more info? Looks like a beautiful site although the building could use a hand. See if I can find a pic... http://houston.commercialexchange.com/Photos/eProp/web/16880.jpg here is the real estate description: lol and here is a pdf with most the info I was looking for: Wulfe & Co. Brochure
  4. So I pass by Summit Place or Plaza, right next to Lakewood Church/Compaq Cente/Summit, and that project look totally idiotic. First I noticed that the pyramid shaped caps on the towers were way out of proportion to the rest of the building (all the had to do was copy the cap on the Mercedes dealership next door) then they are building a garage behind it that you can see is towering over it from the freeway. Doesn't look like the architects did any mass models! To top it off, the garage look like it will be unfinished concrete while the store fronts are brick! Talk about another uninspired project for Houston. I was hoping that something good would be built there. I also hate the Spanish Colonial strip malls they built on the other side of the freeway, replete with the fake tile roofs. Why can't the city embrace some modern architecture for once?
  5. The Deal Company now has a River Oaks listing on their website. https://www.tdc-realty.com/3733-westheimer The Deal Company presents fully redeveloped 3733 Westheimer, a mixed use River Oaks retail and office building with abundant surface parking offering quick access to clients and employees. Co-tenants include: Atrium Yoga, BZach Clothier, Control Pilates, Manduu Fitness, Miclette Interiors, Nails Unique, Post N Parcel, Ritzy Alterations. I stopped by last weekend and took pictures.
  6. We had dinner at Goode Co Seafood Friday night. Our waiter told us they are moving across the parking lot to a new site in the building closer to I-10. Indeed, there is a restaurant being fitted-out there. What makes this interesting is that he told us that they're moving because their current building is being demolished to make room for a new high rise with ground floor retail. He didn't know if that included the Office Depot (and former Sports Authority) building to the west. Is this part of the Metro National property?
  7. This newly built strip center in the River Park neighborhood is at the corner of Grand Parkway and Imperia Dr. Wulfe & Co. is the owner. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/Grand-Parkway-Shopping-Ctr-Sugar-Land-TX/13890814/
  8. At the corner of South Main St. and Braesmain Dr. Loopnet has a listing for South Main Shopping Center located at 8200-8330 South Main Street. The retail strip center is being leased by Property Trust. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/8200-8330-S-Main-St-Houston-TX/23854107/
  9. I wonder when this corner will be redeveloped into something taller. A High-Rise hotel just opened next door. Levit-Green is just a mile down Holcombe. Prime real estate to just have a single-story building.
  10. I also remember on the side of Gulfgate that Weingarten's was on, was a street, I think that the name of it was Woodridge/Woodbridge. I remember us going to a department store on that street called Globe. I thought that I heard that a Home Depot is now in that spot. Does anyone out there know anything about this? Chet Cuccia
  11. This corner used to have Cornbreads, (as nice as it was to have a sports bar down the street from me some of the folks that went there where kinda thuggish), Schlotzkiz (spelling?), CiCi's Pizza, and the Asian Supermarket. It's all gone now! There is a sign up for "Cherry Companies", who I guess is either the Demo company or the General Contractor. I'm wondering if anyone has a clue as to what will be constructed here?
  12. I think this was mentioned before, but the development on 288/FM2234(S.C. Parkway) that is being anchored by Kroger will have a Starbuck's, Luby's, and a Cracker Barrel. Do folks like Cracker Barrel? It sounds so "country" to me. See link for site plan: http://www.gulfcoastcg.com/gulfcoastcg/doc...Marketplace.pdf
  13. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories...ry3.html?page=1 Sounds good to me. I went to NW Mall for the first time a couple weeks ago and while it is nearly full, it could use some new juice.
  14. Nice rendering of the remodel and floor plans from the lease brochure for the updated corner building at 11th and Studewood (formerly Dacapo's then Carmalita's). This building has sat vacant ever since a truck drove through the side of the building and started a fire in June of 2019. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/1141-E-11th-St-Houston-TX/20976546/ The main changes from before appear to involve continuing the window's and awning around the Studewood facing side of the building, opening up the floor plan inside, and taking parking spots off Studewood to add patio seating and widen the sidewalk. It is marketed as a restuarant - 2,108 sf.
  15. Created a new thread for this building / development, that was previously discussed in the More Coming to Midtown thread. Hopefully it's easier to keep up with\updates on this project in one place instead of scrolling and searching for information in the free-for-all thread it was in before. 1500 McGowen Street in Midtown, Houston. Aerial view Street View
  16. My old boss did plans for this shopping center back in the 80s or 90s. I also helped with the drawings for the Chase bank addition on the corner. This shopping center is anchored by the famous Belden's Supermarket.
  17. Massive mixed-use Marina proposed(?) for Kingwood Password protected website: http://kingwoodmarina.com/?password-protected=login&redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fkingwoodmarina.com%2F Architect listed as SOM (Pg 23): file://austin.utexas.edu/lib-public/PublicRedirected$/Cca636/Downloads/SOM_Reduced_PDF.pdf https://www.linkedin.com/in/jisu-choi-rla-leed-ga-23895016/ http://vtrusa.com/Kingwood/#
  18. The retail strip center at 4102 Richmond Ave was listed on Loopnet for 3 weeks. It has since been removed. Did the owner decide not to sell, or was it purchased in the 3 week span? https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/4102-Richmond-Ave-Houston-TX/25411571/
  19. Don't forget Randall's & Whole Foods on Bellaire Blvd, plus the Randall's on Weslayen. The grocery market in the West U area is already saturated; when the "super Kroger" opened, it took a lot of business away from the Weslayen Randall's. The new HEB will probably put the nail in the coffin for the Weslayan Randall's, as it is the oldest grocery store in the area, and was designed to 1980s standards.
  20. So, I was reliving my 2008 Galveston vacation (some HAIFers may remember that I took a regular Houston vacation in 2008, but that was in the spring. No one remembers that? OK) with the Google Maps API, and I noticed that the Home Depot, the one at 20251 Gulf Freeway, just south of Baybrook Mall, has a completely empty parking lot. I can't find anything, however, that proves Home Depot closed this particular location (even though it seems to have happened nearly two years ago). Is it closed?
  21. Project Name: The Harris Apartments Address: 3715 Harrisburg Developer/Owner: Lovett Architect: More Architecture Studio Info: Four levels on podium deck overtop of parking. 132 units, total of 111,060 SF. Ground floor to have 3 restaurants, 2 retail, and also a micro-brewery.
  22. I think this is going to be a DEMO + Building a new gas station. Kind of interesting because its not a corner lot and the lot itself looks very small for a gas station (especially off of Westheimer).
