  1. I don't know if anyone else went on the Azalea Trail this weekend, but if you went in to Bayou Bend via the Lazy Lane entrance, you may have noticed some major construction on an enormous modern house on the left border of the property. That's a new modern by Alexander Gorlin, and it is similiar in style to Chris Robertson's house for his parents on Main St. http://www.gorlinarchitects.com/index_content.htm Go to "projects" "homes" and "Houston Residence" Thanks to Stephen Fox for the info.

  12. Many of you may have seen my previous post offering $500 for the "this is our home, its not for sale" video. The reason I offered so much was becuase I was buying a house in the Neighborhood. Actually the house is on the west side of 288 and the neighborhood is called Almeda Place. My contract fell through so Im letting you guys know the house is still for sale and shes actually lowered the price to 190k. If your familiar with the area you'll know this is a STEAL!!! I've decided to tell the forum here becuase I know nobody here will knock it down and build townhomes. It was build in the 1930's, 2 story, original hardwoods, and is in pretty good shape. Its on a great streat with 2 large houses next door. I hope one of you gets it and restores it back to original shape. The owners name is Madelyn Burley and she lives next door towards almeda. If your interested I suggest you drive down there asap and meet with her. The house for sale is 1709 ruth st 77004 good luck!
  13. http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y My maps indicate that Wylie Vale designed several houses on East & West Rivercrest. This may be one of them. One was designed for Jimmy Green, the Chevrolet dealership owner.
  14. I drove by this house today and noticed that either the house is being readied for demolition, or more likely that a new roof is being put on. Some of the trim around the windows appears to have been removed, but there is a foundation repair company sign in the front yard. This house has needed attention for some time, and it may be getting it. Let's just hope it's not being torn down; two classic mods in the same week is inexcusable.
  15. Hello, I have found this website repeatedly in my internet search for parental information. I was born in the haunted hospital Jefferson Davis but I think from what I've gathered on here the one that was torn down and possibly also haunted and from what I've read plaged by staph infection during the 1950's. I am the "love child" of a black woman and white male in the 1950's almost 60's =). I didn't grow up with either parent as she was married and was whisked away to other relatives where I ended up in SF. All that I know from my birth certificate besides the haunted hospital is that their address was 2808 Hadley street. I've heard several versions of my "biological parentage" that he owned a grocery store and that he was Italian. Another version is that he is Italian and owned a clothing store. If anyone can help me with ANYthing I would appreciate it. Thanks btw: my biological mother is deceased and so is my "mom." So I'm hoping that you history buffs might have any information on stores, people anything. Thanks
  16. story A high-rise building is burning on Bellerive near Bonhomme. Firefighters have evacuated a number of people from the building. The fire broke out just before 10am. The building belongs to the Houston Housing Authority. It was built in 1975 and currently has 210 units housing low-income seniors. There are sprinklers in the hallways. Flames and thick black smoke can be seen pouring out of at least one window. Preliminary information suggests that the fire began in a woman's apartment on the fifth floor. There was a mayday call from a firefighter on the fifth floor, but that has been cleared. So far no injuries have been reported. There are still reports of people trapped.
  17. www.har.com/5776233 OK, so I am not a modernist, I just like neat stuff. (I just used neat... wow.) So, take a look at this place and let me know if you'd consider it "mod" or some other name. Some houses, I know would be considered mod. Some, like this one, I'm not so sure. I'm guessing that, by some strict definition, it's not. However, by the "Metropolitan Home" definition, it probably is. I go more by the Met Home definition of mod, and tend to like all the places that would fall into that more general bucket. I've actually gone to look at this place (years ago). Other than the neighborhood, it looked like the house could be made into something nice with the right people working on it. If I were single, I'd take it on. Thoughts on the house and the SW Fondren Northfield subdivision/area? Thanks, TK http://harpictures.marketlinx.com/MediaDisplay/94/hr2016894-1.jpg http://harpictures.marketlinx.com/MediaDisplay/94/hr2016894-2.jpg http://harpictures.marketlinx.com/MediaDisplay/94/hr2016894-4.jpg

  19. Brand new listing in Willow Meadows at $172.38 per square foot. Highest sold price per square foot in MLS is $169.51 in August 2007. A few others have sold around $167.00 per square foot. HAR Link EDIT: By the way...it's not my listing, just thought I would share.
  20. It's a stretch, but I'm looking for a picture of this house for Houston Mod's "Mod No More" section. It is now gone. If anyone has an old shot of it, send it along and I will credit you for it. Jason 328 Buckingham Drive Liese House Lloyd & Morgan 1954 By the 1950s Lloyd & Morgan was known mostly for their commercial buildings. However, they continued to design a small number of houses for select clients. The gracious design of the Liese House was one of Hermon Lloyd
  21. Wanted to let y'all know that Martha Turner's in house magazine Properties has a page long article about Preston Bolton that's worth checking out. It's not up on their website yet, though.
  22. There is an open house on the 16th, this weekend, at this 1969 contemporary home. It is 7,057 square feet, and has the potential to be a really cool place. http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y Any guesses as to who the architect is?
  23. Has anyone else seen that McMansion going in on the edge of Lindale Park facing Fulton? It is a huge house, it looks about 7000 square feet on a track that runs the full length of the block, facing Fulton. What's up with that? Has anyone else seen this? It is between Cavalcade and 610.
  24. http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r85/zoomanderson/DSC_0014copy.jpg I've seen this one for years but finally was able to go up and look at it. Has some interesting touches that I couldn't get clear shots of. Been vacant for some time.
  25. anyone familiar with this home or the architect (John R. Dossey) who is supposedly building its replacement? The 1955 home is gone (or very soon to be), and was located just south of Beechnut between S. Rice and Ferris. http://i18.tinypic.com/5zmspas.jpg
