  1. Bungalows are pretty much known for being cute. The problem I see with the pro historic people is they think they know better than everyone else. Yes the anti historic district people are the same... but at least they aren't trying to force you do something you don't want to do.
  2. If true, that is a total bummer. I'm sure Zelko Bistro will stay in the heights though. I hope they find a new location soon (or work things out to maintain their lease for longer time).
  3. The nearby homes won't even hear the concerts over the murmur of 45... = ] I don't think this is a bad a location at all.
  4. Hugz and Donuts reached there Kickstarter goal too. Can't wait for them to open (as a black card and mug holder)
  5. I noticed The EL had a good bit of parking available. That was nice to see.
  6. Seems like a viable solution then... perhaps a dual business Bakery and French Restaurant, (or bakery and indian restaurant like Pondicheri). Someone make this happen. = ]
  7. would two smaller restaurants need the same parking requirements of 1 large one? If not maybe they could engineer a Haymerchant/Underbelly type layout.
  8. why should residents get free use of the public street, or be paid for others use of it? If someone is blocking your driveway... call a tow truck. (they will be more than happy to tow the person). I think a lot of this is people whining because they don't know how to drive/backout of their driveways. (which to be fair can be difficult with as narrow our entrances can be). This happens to me all the time, and sometimes because of traffic I have to wait upwards of 30-45 seconds (traffic nightmare!!!!!!) before I can safely back out of my driveway. Inner Loop Problems.
  9. I would argue that there is still a lack of diversity... but a fair amount of choices for similar genres. We still have no Indian or Sushi places... it was be really nice to see something like an Ethiopian restaurant. I also like this thread as a reminder as to how far the restaurant scene has come for the 'hood.
  10. Not sure if it is true or not, but I heard they got shut down by the city... anyone know anything about that?
  11. Isn't Skinny Ritas the same people as Ruggles Green?
  12. I think so... there is lack of available hotel space in the near vacinity. I would want to see a bit more development along Main first but I still think it would do well.
  13. The Admiral would make a cool boutique style'd hotel.
  14. I went to Boil House over the weekend. Pretty solid crawfish, they were really nice/friendly and even gave us a piece of King Cake to try while we were eating our crawfish. Will definitely be going again. I also went to Mighty Mini Pies on Main Street Friday (I think that is the name) and got two mini pies. They were tasty (kinda sad I didnt' go before now)
  15. I went to Piatto and it was tasty and great service. I'll be going back.
  16. Can they sell as "to go" but have picnic tables setup that people just happen to utilize anyway?
  17. Whatever happened to that Tiki Bar that was supposed to open up on Main?
  18. Someone needs to design a yard sign with a Historic Ordinance monster smashing bungalows with a conformity stick.
  19. yep, i'm going to make myself ride my bicycle or longboard there... to justify the calories. I had the bourbon vanilla bean shake and it was bonkers amazing.
  20. That is awefully close to the snowcone place on Main that cost 1/4 as much... I went to FatCat and it was awesome. Great addition.
  21. Awesome! Looking forward to this one. I went to Key West a few years back and there was a desert bar called "better than sex" which was a very adult "sexy atmosphere" desert bar. Although it sounds kitchy and cliche', there was a wait out the door every night I was there and it was a pretty cool place. (my wife and I went after a night out and managed to get a table somehow). Since then I've thought that would be something that would go over really well in The Heights where people love eating and drinking but not the "party atmosphere as much".
  22. It is hard to give a little when the entire thing was taken from you in the first place. I also like how your "assumption 1" ends with your own assumption. Nice.
  23. Wasn't this myth busted back when it was brought up last time? Those are demolition permits which include garages and other outlying buildings and maybe even partial demolitons. So your 170 is a bit exaggerated for homes... and of those likely many of them weren't really even demo... more like picking up the pile of former house that sits on a lot. I remember people making a fuss back in 06 about a house getting a demo permit but it was actually for the old carriage house that had burned down in like the 70s. It was litterally a pile of rubble with a few walls of framing still standing. Were a lot of homes that could have easily been saved knocked down, definitely, and many of them bummed me out as back then I was looking to buy a home and a lot of those would have been perfect for me but they never even got listed. The 90+90 day waiting/holding period for demos slowed them dramatically and a few other small changes could have been made to prevent even more of them. This is what everyone wanted and was sold when they signed up for the original historic district. That is a far cry from what the HDs are today. (the original goal was to stop demolition of livable/saveable bungalows, it was told to everyone a million times). Current HD ordinance and Saving Bungalows are about as similar as crap and chocalate.
  24. I saw that yesterday... no "open" sign but people definitely eating in there. I'm guessing they are in more of a "soft" opening stage right now? I'll get check it out soon.
