  1. The inner space is still very narrow compared to any mall I've ever been in. It feels cramped when you're the only person there.
  2. I tolerate your rejection of my definition of tolerance.
  3. But you'll tolerate it in some way. You're not planning to blow it up or anything, are you? That's really all tolerance is: not blowing something up.
  4. So after you complain, you'll just tolerate it. I think Tolerance Bridge has accomplished its goal. Thanks, Tolerance Bridge!
  5. Yeah, where do these hippies get off? Who would be so stupid to think that naming a public structure after some silly ideal like would have any impact on people whatsoever?
  6. Doozo dumplings in The Shops at Houston Center. That's the only retail that gets me to drive downtown.
  7. One easy way is to enter through the Shops at Houston Center. The end of the mall away from the food court has an escalator that goes down to the tunnels. I can't think of any major building downtown that doesn't have tunnel access.
  8. But that has nothing to do with the tunnels. Moving the retail out of the tunnels won't increase the amount of retail open after business hours. There are already street level businesses downtown that can't afford to stay open after business hours.
  9. Again, the tunnels are private property. They can't be more "integrated with the street" than the rest of the office buildings for physical security reasons. Would you let conventioneers wander around your house for the sake of synergistic effects?
  10. ... and they still have little retail at street level. Thank you for proving my point.
  11. Tax whom? The entity that owns the property? What are you talking about?
  12. Not according to this thread. What are you talking about?
  13. I never see folks wearing baseball caps. Are they all out playing baseball? (I don't play baseball, so maybe that's why I don't see them.) This is the only sort of hat I wear (not sure what the style is called):
  14. You can't get rid of them. They are private property. That's like saying the BoA center should get rid of a hallway on the 7th floor.
  15. All of your hats are baseball caps? Do you play a lot of baseball?
  16. But those tunnels don't discourage downtown retail from operating outside of business hours. Houstonians do. Any of those businesses would have chosen a location above ground if they thought that would make more money. It doesn't because downtown workers drive home after work.
  17. First, bums are mostly pedestrians, so there can't be more bums than pedestrians. Second, you've got cause and effect confused. Houston's downtown is empty at night because it's surrounded by cheap land with no natural boundaries. That gives most people the ability to live somewhere else, and most people prefer to live in single family houses with yards or cheap apartments. It isn't the bums keeping the non-bums out of downtown. It's the cheap land and good roads.
  18. You need to get out more. Houston doesn't have a lot of bums, and the ones we do have are boring compared to other big cities. Check out San Francisco if you want to see a lot of really crazy and scary bums. What can be done? Learn to accept them. They aren't stopping downtown from "thriving".
  19. So is this whole thread here because you feel excluded from the tunnels? I have news for you. There's a lot of private property you are excluded from. Why not start a thread about the men's bathroom on the 5th floor of my office building? It's open after business hours, but you can't get in without a security card.
