  1. The Disco Kroger

Plans for the former site of the “Disco Kroger” — once arguably the most famous grocery store in Houston — have been finalized.

Georgia-based developer Southeastern plans to turn the site of the former 24-hour Kroger — which for nearly 40 years was frequented mostly by late-night and early-morning shoppers leaving nearby Montrose neighborhood LGBTQ bars and clubs when they closed for the night — into a seven-story $68 million mid-rise apartment complex, with two parking garages...

They released a render of the next phase pretty early on, didn’t they? I’m curious how much it’ll keep with the architectural style.

as more of it gets finished up, I think I’m liking it quite a bit. The way the residential portion looks slightly offset from the hotel portion does still trip me out a little bit, though.

I'd actually encourage the developer to come up with an entirely different architectural design, as two of the same thing right next to each other is going to look kind of strange. The original looks good as it is.

I find the 3Ds very distracting. Often the buildings overlap each other and point in all sorts of directions. The picture above is actually pretty good.

I keep looking at the imagery, and in a lot of places, it's updated to within a couple of months - at least under the timeline banner. Up around Lake Conroe and out to the west, the amount of change is quite noticeable - lots of real estate getting chewed up for packed-in tract homes and strip centers, in pretty quick order. You can even spot the new developments flying into the airports.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks worse? It might be better, but getting rid of streetfront engagement always feels like backsliding to me.

It really has an Ocean's Eleven '50s sort of vibe to it. It wants to be in Galveston...

    Memorial Hermann - Cypress Campus
Three years after its last expansion, Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital will again add more square footage to its campus to keep up with the area’s fast growth, the Houston-based health system has announced.Work is already underway to build out the second floor of the existing hospital’s south tower to add a new nursing unit, including 40 patient beds on 35,000 square feet. That floor had been shell space since the hospital opened in 2017, said Jerry Ashworth, senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital.

Also part of the $71.8 million expansion is the construction of a second, 100,000-square-foot professional office building, a parking garage and additional surface parking as well as a two-story, 50,000-square-foot orthopedic sports medicine facility with a sports field that can host community sports leagues...
