The Galleria Mall At 5085 Westheimer Rd.
WestGrayGuy replied to TreaderCRC's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
Neiman Marcus Northpark in Dallas is the largest in sales. Of course it is based in Dallas. -

Repeat after me: "The virgin megastore does not a city make", "The virgin megastore does not a city make", "The virgin megastore does not a city make". The store is a 90's phenomenon. Houston doesn't need one. -
Seven Lakes High School At 9251 South Fry Rd.
WestGrayGuy replied to VicMan's topic in Katy and Points West
Although I don't think HISD is the model of efficient spending, it is not fair to compare the two districts. HISD is massive. Katy has what 6-8 high schools? Plus Katy is growing at a must faster rate than HISD, those new schools are completely necessary. Katy can get away spending much more per student than HISD can. All and all though, I would want my kids to go to KISD. -
If anything, I was referring to P Diddy's "colorful" past with an incident that occurred with his entourage in a Miami nightclub with J LO. His race had nothing to do with it. I do think some of us have become overly sensitive. As a member of a minority myself, I can understand you thoughts. Especially in this week of Pride, I am not one to stereotype or be offensive. I apologize if I offended you.

Good lord! That is impressive. -
Finally, something is going into the long vacant corner across from Farrago's in the Post Midtown Square building. This space has been empty for long time. Another Mexican food restuarant in midtown. Yippee! Sign says opening in Fall 2005 I believe.

Midtown Restaurant And Bar Scene - More Coming
WestGrayGuy replied to WestGrayGuy's topic in Midtown
Well it looks like this diner might happen after all. Driving by a sign now reads "Coming Soon...H-Town Diner" They are seeking applications. Should be cool when it opens, I will go.- 1,137 replies

Bayou Place: Entertainment Development At 500 Texas St.
WestGrayGuy replied to houstonsemipro's topic in Downtown
I have to say I am disappointed. I would think further entertainment options would be a natural fit for the second phase. The Aquarium restaurant is right there. I do think something is better than nothing and it is an eyesore currently. Putting in office space seems like the easiest thing to do.- 197 replies

Holiday/Days/Heaven On Earth Inn At 801 St. Joseph Pkwy.

Do you mean the Days Inn on St Joseph Parkway? -
I love stories about Gay Houston History. Fascinating... Thanks for setting the record "straight".

Here's is the version of the story I have heard: Empire Cafe used to be a gay leather bar back in the day. The owner liked teenage boys, tying them up etc. After the bar closed it remained empty for a while. When it was reopened as a cafe, they discovered several young bodies wrapped in plastic in the back. I have asked the staff and Empire Cafe and they have confirmed this.

Tampa freaking Bay??? You go to be kidding me. Okay, so I am disappointed. Does this take us out the rotation for a while?

I disagree. The Superbowl helps boost the image of the city. This is especially true for Houston which has had image issues in the past. Superbowl 2009 is a big deal and I will be upset if Atlanta gets it.

As a token gay guy, yes Zsa Zsa is quite gay. Very Dallas. Pretentious and faux riche. Warwick is regal, classic. By the way, my people prefer gay over "queer".

I personally like the detail of the rendering. Downtown looks exactly the way it should from that angle...Also I like the light mist. The former Hard Rock cafe is dead on.

I am personally not a fan of modern (50-60's style) architecture. So I am glad to see the Page Parks building go. Yes, I know we tear down everything in Houston. But the Kirby Condos will be an improvement. Thumbs Up!

This may be a dumb question but... Hasn't this land been a park "Houston Center Gardens" since the 80's? What's the difference now? I guess this will be a special park?

Retail Center At 5201 Richmond Ave.
WestGrayGuy replied to texasboy's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
Okay. Question: Is it Rice Boulevard or Rice Avenue? The diagram say Blvd. There is a difference. I am thinking it is Rice Avenue in uptown and not Rice Boulevard in the Village. With that being said, I think the design is hideous. Perhaps it will look better when built.- 18 replies

GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.
WestGrayGuy replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
I am so excited about this project. What a great way to create density within the central business district. This will surely add a much needed connection between Main Street and the East End. One thing though, I do not like that website. You can not look at any of the rendering in detail. The towers will be office or residential? I am guessing that the "central park" the city is planning will be at the Eastern end of this project? This should send downtown into critical mass in terms of entertainment choices. Personally I would like to get to a point where we get rid of every surface parking lot in downtown. The days of the downtown ghost town are over. It is time to fill in the blanks in our CBD. -
My friends and I call it "Whole Paycheck". However, it would be cool if they built in midtown.
