  1. Lawsuit abuse. It's driving all US doctors into the poor house.
  2. There's no end to what idiots will believe. Hopefully a hurricane will knock those things over. I don't think God wanted idols, either.
  3. I wonder what would be considered a violent crime, and if there were that many, you'd think there'd be one or two murders. Anyway, I noticed the Chronicle was keeping track: http://blogs.chron.com/homicide/2007/12/. I thought this would be most appreciated by Vertigo58.
  4. No one gives a crap about Macy's here. They were too used to Foley's. I'm sure a lot of people here could've told them that.
  5. I didn't think they would allow students to use their parking passes to park in the garage. They should really allow all of them in since they are demolishing a lot of spaces. The new resident life building isn't the first time since the site for the new science and engineering complex also used to be parking.
  6. Cougar Place is in the right place for student living because if they ever bring rail to UH it will probably be along Wheeler and students living on campus will have easy access to it. I'm not sure the placement for the new lofts on Calhoun is a good idea because 1) it is far from other student residences and 2) they demolished a major student parking lot when UH doesn't have enough parking spaces for students.
  7. On CNN's Cold & Flu report we're the only state that's always blue. I thought colder places would be hit worse because people are staying indoors or more populated places.
  8. I think it was realigned when Montrose was built as a suburb.
  9. They don't put nearly as much time and money into impact studies. This is probably a big reason they build roads so quickly, with the tradeoff being serious problems down the road. Anyway, don't you recall that the Hardy Toll Road was subsidized by drivers of BW8 for years because it failed to attract enough drivers? I don't know if its still true, though.
  10. Albertsons is the major chain that left the Houston market. No one's going to come back after that. I noticed that all the stores were bought by Kroger & Randall's, but none of them reopened as Randall's. Whole Foods isn't a replacement for a real grocery store. The ones we have in Houston are pitiful.
  11. Good pics, but I still hate those stupid rings.
  12. It'll happen as soon as some demographics move in next door.
  13. Hah. But it is depressing to hear the word "demographics" and know that it means black people.
  14. The revenue from the gas tax goes to $250 million bridges in Alaska that connect towns with only fifty people. Texans don't get back what they pay in taxes for roadbuilding. This is less about alleviating traffic congestion, and more about collecting taxes. Although new lanes will be added, the toll road will take up more space than lanes added to the existing roadway. There will be less room for future expansion of 288, resulting in a net loss of lanes.
  15. I like the differences in all the UH buildings. They started with Art Deco when it was becoming really unpopular, so they really had no choice but to update. They have a smattering of buildings from styles throughout the decades. Some will appreciate, some will be realized as mistakes. You know that new Athletics Center is going to get ugly in ten years.
  16. I remember seeing an old cotton gin on Alief rd a while back. It was torn down to build the Westpark Tollway. I don't know if its in any of those photos.
  17. No. It's nestled between the law village and the business school. I think (for now) there's a big open area between it and the University Center.
  18. That's really the ugly side of the campus, but I like the new building. Are they ever going to finish Calhoun and bring it up to Elgin somehow?
  19. I thought there was a thread on that, but it must've been before old HAIF went "boom"
  20. I would rather A&M take it. Maybe some nice competition between the schools would benefit both.
  21. The one on at 45 and Milby doesn't look very big. I think its about the same as the one off of BW8, which is at the end of Turtlewood or Turtle-something. It doesn't look very big either, but there are classrooms (I think) to teach Chinese languages.
